Evaluation of Combustion Mechanism of Droplet Cluster in Premixed Spray Flame by Simultaneous Time-Series Measurement (동시 시계열 계측에 의한 예혼합 분무화염 내 유적군 연소기구의 평가)

  • To evaluate the combustion mechanism of each droplet cluster downstream of the premixed spray flame, the simultaneous time-series measurements were conducted by using optical measurement system consisting of laser tomography, multi-color integrated Cassegrain receiving optics (MICRO) and phase Doppler anemometer (PDA). Furthermore, the group combustion number of droplet cluster was estimated experimentally, and the combustion mechanism of droplet cluster was examined applying the theoretical analysis. The group combustion number, $G_c$, was experimentally estimated about all droplet cluster verified by planar images, and it was classified into the internal group combustion mode and the external group combustion mode according to the theoretical analysis. It is found that there are cases in which the group combustion number estimated experimentally for droplet cluster agree or disagree with the classification by theoretical analysis. The reason of disagreement is considered due to that the group combustion number was only estimated by the geometrical arrangement of droplets in cluster, and that the actual phenomenon is three-dimensional but the measurement system is two-dimensional.

COMPUTATIONAL INVESTIGATION OF NOZZLE FLOWFIELD IN A MICRO TURBOJET ENGINE AND ITS SCALING CHARACTERISTICS (마이크로 터보제트 엔진 노즐 유동장에 관한 CFD 전산해석 및 스케일링 특성 연구)

  • Thermal flowfield of a micro turbojet engine was computationally investigated for exhaust nozzles with different aspect ratio and curvature. Special attention was paid to maximum and average temperature of the nozzle surface and the exhaust nozzle plume. The IR signatures of the micro turbojet engine nozzle were then calculated through the narrow-band model based on thermal flowfield data obtained through CFD analysis. Finally, in order to check the similarity of thermal flowfields and IR signature of the sub-scale micro turbojet engine model and the full-scale UCAV propulsion system, several non-dimensional parameters associated with temperature and optical property of plume were introduced. It was shown that, in spite of some differences in actual values of non-dimensional parameters, the scaling characteristics on spectral feature of IR signature and effects of aspect ratio and curvature of nozzle configuration remain similar in sub-scale and full-scale cases.

Surface Polishing of Polymer Microlens with Solvent Vapor (솔벤트 증기를 이용한 폴리머 마이크로 렌즈의 표면 연마)

  • Today, there are lots of progresses in the field of lens researches, especially in the microlens fabrication. Unlike normal lenses, microlens has been widely used as a role of improving the performance of photonic devices which increase the optical precision, and also used in the fields of the display. In this paper, polymer microlenses with $300{\mu}m$ diameter were replicated through hot-embossing from nickel mold which was fabricated by micro-EDM. After hot-embossing process, the polymer microlenses have a rough surface due to the crater formed by micro-EDM process, which is projected onto the surface of the lenses. The surface of polymer microlenses was polished using solvent vapor to improve the surface roughness of the microlenses without changing their shape. In the experiment, the surface roughness was improved with the processing time and vapor temperature. Also, the roughness improvement was greatly affected by the solubility difference between polymer and solvent.

  • Recently, the needs for the development and application of marine robots are increasing as marine accidents occur frequently. However, it is very difficult to acquire the information by utilizing marine robots in the marine environment. Therefore, the needs for the researches of sensor networks which are composed of underwater, surface and aerial robots are increasing in order to acquire the information effectively as the information from heterogeneous robots has less limitation in terms of coverage and connectivity. Although various researches of the sensor network which is based on marine robots have been executed, all of the underwater, surface and aerial robots have not yet been considered in the sensor network. To solve this problem, a collaborative control method based on the acoustic information and image by the sonars of the underwater robot, the acoustic information by the sonar of the surface robot and the optical image by the camera of the static-floating aerial robot is proposed. To verify the performance of the proposed method, the collaborative control of a MUR(Micro Underwater Robot) with an OAS(Obstacle Avoidance Sonar) and a SSS(Side Scan Sonar), a MSR(Micro Surface Robot) with an OAS and a BMAR(Balloon-based Micro Aerial Robot) with a camera are executed. The test results show the possibility of real applications and the need for additional studies.

Simultaneous measurement of velocity and temperature fields in micro-scale flow and its application to electrokinetic flow (마이크로 스케일 유동에서의 속도장 온도장 동시 측정 기법과 동전기 유동에의 적용)

  • In this paper, a technique of simultaneously measuring the velocity and the temperature in micro-scale flow is proposed. This method uses particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) for measuring the velocity and laser induced fluorescence (LIF) for measuring the temperature. To measure the accurate velocity and temperature, images for PTV and for LIF are separated by using two light sources and a shutter which is synchronized with a camera. By using only one camera, measurement system can be simplified and the error from complicate optical system can be minimized. Error analyses regarding the concentrations of fluorescent dye and particle and the light source fluctuation are also conducted. It is found that the error of the temperature and the velocity highly depends on the concentration of fluorescent particles which are used for PTV. This technique is applied to the simultaneous measurement of the velocity and the temperature in the electrokinetic flow. It is found that the velocity and temperature vary with the electric field strength and the concentration of electrolyte.

  • The automotive industry is transitioning from traditional internal combustion engines to systems powered by motors, batteries, and various electronic control units. Central to this shift is the micro-controller unit, which processes data from various sensors for real-time environmental awareness and control. This paper explores using non-contact magnetic sensors for sensing vehicle inclination as part of a digital twin implementation. Unlike optical or contact sensors, non-contact magnetic sensors offer robust performance in challenging environments, providing consistent and reliable data under varying conditions. To optimize real-time data processing, we propose a double buffer structure to enhance digital signal processing performance in embedded systems. Experiments using a custom sensor-integrated board demonstrate that the double buffer structure with direct memory access-enabled serial peripheral interface significantly reduces data processing time and improves noise reduction filtering. Our results show that the proposed system can greatly enhance the reliability and accuracy of sensor data, crucial for real-time vehicle control systems. In particular, by using the double buffer structure proposed in this paper, it was possible to secure 8.27 times more data compared to raw data, despite performing additional filtering. The techniques outlined have potential applications in various fields, offering enhanced monitoring and optimization capabilities, thus paving the way for more advanced and efficient vehicle control technologies.

  • This paper proposes a study on the spherical lens manufacturing by simultaneous 3 axis for NC lathe. We use friction drive system for moving system in experimental diamond turing machine. The diamond turning machine use manufacturing for high quality lens, mirror and many optics products. Especially, the high tech industry require a lot of lens. For example, optical engineering. medical science, space engineering and material engineering etc. The friction drive system is very simple and quiet, compared to ball screw system. We find a problem at the simultaneous 3 axis and suggest a solution. Also, when we manufactured a micro lens. find a problem and solution.

  • With the development of micro electronic circuits and optical equipment, the demand for developing smart munitions with the ability to autonomously search for and attack targets has increased. Since the electronic components within smart munitions are affected by high temperatures, pressure, and impulsive forces upon the combustion of gunpowder, stability and reliability need to be secured for them. Securing those stability and reliability requires soft recovery system which can decelerate smart munitions. A theoretical analysis of flow is performed for the secure recovery of bullets on the basis of Navier-Stokes equation for compressible fluids. The inner pressure on a pressure tube, the speeds of bullets, and the deceleration of munitions are calculated theoretically. Theoretical results are compared with the data from the experiment with soft recovery system set up at the laboratory.

  • A precision planting system using computer controlled technology for mulching cultivation was developed and tested . The system consisting of a micro-computer, several optical fiber sensors and control actuators realized the mechanization of the precision planting operation. The film hole positions, existences of a seed on shutter were detected and the planting speed was measured. The shutter opening mechanism and a seed metering device driven by a stepping motor were controlled, automatically . The planting timing of the shutter opening mechanism were analyzed from a video camera motion analysis, theoretically. The results showed a sufficient accuracy of a seed planted into the center a film hole with a variety of planting speeded. The gravity point positions in film hole of seeds planted by the system just were within the area of +-5mm of the hole center when the hole diameter was 40mm.
