CT 영상을 이용한 골다공증 분류 방법의 구현 (An Implementation of Classification Method of Osteoporosis using CT images)

  • In this paper, we propose a method of measuring bone mineral density in a peripheral-type clinical X-ray CT using a phantom, and we propose a method of classifying osteoporosis using bone mineral density and bone structure parameters together. It segments the trabecular bone region and cortical bone region for the six sections of the phantom and calculates the average HU value of the segmented regions. By using these values, it derives an expression converting HU value to bone mineral density. It segments trabecular bone of 1 cm region in the end part of distal radius and extracts the bone mineral density and structural parameters for the trabecular bone region. We extracted bone mineral density and structural parameters for the 18 subjects each of normal and osteoporotic group. We carried out classification experiments using three classification methods; SAD, SVM, ANN. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, likelihood ratio of the classification was improved in the order of ANN, SVM and SAD. Also, The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, likelihood ratio of the classification was improved when we use the bone mineral density and structural parameters together.

  • This review paper evaluates different kinds of synthesis methods for calcite precipitated calcium carbonates by using different materials. The various processing routes of calcite with different compositions are reported and the possible optimum conditions required to synthesize a desired particle sizes of calcite are predicted. This paper mainly focuses on that the calcite morphology and size of the particles by carbonation process using loop reactors. In this regard, we have investigated various parameters such as $CO_2$ flow rate, Ca $(OH)_2$ concentration, temperature, pH effect, reaction time and loop reactor mechanism with orifice diameter. The research results illustrate the formation of well-defined and pure calcite crystals with controlled crystal growth and particle size, without additives or organic solvents. The crystal growth and particle size can be controlled, and smaller sizes are obtained by decreasing the Ca $(OH)_2$ concentration and increasing the $CO_2$ flow rate at lower temperatures with suitable pH. The crystal structure of obtained calcite was characterized by using X-ray diffraction method and the morphology by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The result of x-ray diffraction recognized that the calcite phase of calcium carbonate was the dominating crystalline structure.

Methods of Mineral Engineering in a Fight Against Varrosa Infestation

  • The purpose of previous study centered around introducing minerals into bee colonies was to observe the Varrosa destructor mites-repelling effect of minerals ("Pszczelarstwo" 6/2016). The results of research published so far confirmed the purpose of using minerals in the fight against Varrosa infestation. This publication presents partial results of the next stage of research. Using foundation enriched with studied minerals in right proportions leads to diminishing the number of Varroa destructor parasites in bee colonies. It may also contribute to increase in the amount of honey obtained from bees. Foundations with minerals were in most cases correctly filled with larvae, and the new generation of bees didn't show any morphometric or physical-motor aberrations. The effect of minerals in the foundation weakens with time, which requires adequate reaction from the beekeeper. The study showed no negative effect of mineral suspensions added directly to royal jelly of larvae in the swarm cells and worker cells on the development of bees. Additional research was carried out in August and September and led to surprising observations, which are still too early to report. It obliges us to carry out further, extended subject research on a large number of bee colonies in 2017.

  • A developed neutron activation analysis(NAA) and gamma-spectrometry were applied to improve the analytical sensitivity and precision of impurities in electronic-circuit raw materials. It is well known that soft errors in high precision electronic circuits can be induced by alpha particles emitted from naturally occurring radioactive impurities such as U and Th. As electronic circuits have recently become smaller in dimension and higher in density, these alpha-particle emitting radioactive impurities must be strictly controlled. Therefore, new NAA methods have been established using a HTS(Hydraulic Transfer System) irradiation facility and a background reduction method. For eliminating or stabilizing fluctuated background caused by Rn-222 and its progeny nuclides in air, a nitrogen purging system is used. Using the developed NAA and gamma-spectrometry, ultra trace amounts of U(0.1ng/g) and Th(0.01ng/g) in an alumina ball and high purity silica used for an epoxy molding compound (EMC) could be determined.

고분말도 광물성 혼화재를 혼입한 삼성분계 결합재의 ASR 저항성 평가 (ASR Resistance of Ternary Blended Binder Adding Ultra Fine Mineral Admixture)

  • PURPOSES : This study is to evaluate ASR(alkali silica reactivity) resistance of ternary blended binder adding ultra fine mineral admixture. METHODS : This study analyzes ASR expansion using ASTM C 1260 and 1567. RESULTS : This study showed that the fineness of mineral admixture had no effect on ASR expansion. The expansion of ternary blended binder(UFFA 20%+FGGBS 10%) were below 0.1%, and this binder met the ASR standard. Also when adding the CSA expansion agent, ASR expansion slightly decreased. The expansion of latex modified mixture increased by 80% comparing plain mixture. CONCLUSIONS : Ternary blended binder met the ASR standard, and this binder is available in concrete bridge deck overlay.

CT 영상에서 골다공증 판별 방법의 성능 향상 (A Performance Enhancement of Osteoporosis Classification in CT images)

  • Classification methods based on dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, ultrasonic waves, and quantitative computed tomography have been proposed. Also, a classification method based on machine learning with bone mineral density and structural indicators extracted from the CT images has been proposed. We propose a method which enhances the performance of existing classification method based on bone mineral density and structural indicators by extending structural indicators and using principal component analysis. Experimental result shows that the proposed method in this paper improves the correctness of osteoporosis classification 2.8% with extended structural indicators only and 4.8% with both extended structural indicators and principal component analysis. In addition, this paper proposes a method of automatic phantom analysis needed to convert the CT values to BMD values. While existing method requires manual operation to mark the bone region within the phantom, the proposed method detects the bone region automatically by detecting circles in the CT image. The proposed method and the existing method gave the same conversion formula for converting CT value to bone mineral density.

  • 지구물리탐사 자료의 잡음은 물리탐사 자료를 왜곡시켜 잘못된 결과 해석을 유도한다. 잡음을 만들어내는 원인으로는 인간의 활동으로 인하며 만들어지는 잡음과 자연 현상 및 기기 소음 등이 있으며 이러한 잡음을 제거하기 위한 다양한 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 하지만, 전통적인 잡음제거 방법들은 요소파 변환이나 필터링 과정에서 개인의 주관과 높은 계산 비용 그리고 많은 시간이 소모된다는 단점이 있으며 이런 문제를 해결하기 위해 영상 전처리 및 잡음제거를 위한 개선된 신경망을 구현하고자 하였다. 이 연구는 인공신경망, 합성곱 신경망, 오토인코더, 잔차 및 파형신경망의 다양한 유형의 신경망과 탄성파, 시간영역 전자탐사, 지표투과레이더 및 자기지전류의 잡음을 분석하고, 훈련 과정에 실제로 이용한 인공 신경망과 제시된 핵심 해결책을 분석 정리하였다. 이러한 분석을 통해 개선된 신경망이 지구물리탐사 자료의 잡음제거에 유용한 기법임을 알 수 있었다.

  • 산사태가 발생하면 많은 시설에 큰 위험을 초래할 수 있기 때문에, 이를 예방하기 위해 사면의 특성을 상세하게 조사하고 불안정한 사면에 대해서는 적절히 보강을 수행해야 한다. 물리탐사는 사면을 교란시키지 않고 비교적 저렴한 비용으로 넓은 영역의 특성을 조사할 수 있는 방법으로, 외국에서는 사면의 안정성 조사에 널리 쓰이고 있는 반면 국내에서는 물리탐사 외의 직접적인 조사 방법들이 주로 쓰이고 있다. 이 논문에서는 물리탐사를 이용하여 사면의 특성을 파악하여 안정성을 평가한 사례들을 분석하고자 한다. 먼저 불안정한 사면물질, 균열 위치 및 연결성, 지하수위 분포에 따른 물성의 변화 등을 알아본 뒤, 이러한 물성 변화를 파악하기 위해 적용된 물리탐사 기법들인 전기비저항 탐사, 탄성파 탐사를 비롯해 자연전위 탐사, 유도분극 탐사, 지표투과레이더 탐사 등의 적용법에 대해 알아본다. 이에 기초하여, 기존의 여러 사면에서 실제로 수행되었던 물리탐사 사례들을 분석하였다.

Assessment of cerchar abrasivity test in anisotropic rocks

  • There have been developed a number of methods to assess the abrasivity of rock materials with the increased use of mechanized rock excavation. These methods range from determination of abrasive and hard mineral content using petrographic thin section analysis to weight loss or development of wear flat on a specified cutting tool. The Cerchar abrasivity index (CAI) test has been widely accepted for the assessment of rock abrasiveness. This test has been considered to provide a reliable indication of rock abrasiveness for isotropic rocks. However, a great amount of rocks in nature are anisotropic. Hence, viability assessment of Cerchar abrasivity test for the anisotropic rocks is investigated in this research. The relationship between CAI value and quartz content for the isotropic rocks is well known in literature. However, a correlation between EQ, F-Schimazek value, Rock Abrasivity Index (RAI) and CAI of anisotropic rocks such as phyllite was done first time in literature with this research. The results obtained with this research show F-Schimazek values and RAI values should be considered when determination of the abrasivity of anisotropic rocks instead of just using Cerchar scratch test.

고로 슬래그를 사용한 용융클링커의 광물학적 특성 (Mineral Properties of Molten Clinker with Blast Furnace Slag)

  • Raw mix of molten clinker was fabricated using blast furnace slag as starting material. Raw mix was melted at 1620$^{\circ}C$ for molten clinker fabrication. It was found that molten clinker contained alite and belite equivalent to OPC clinker mineral by optical microscope and SEM. The size of alite was 10~50 ${\mu}m$ and that of belite was 20~80 ${\mu}m$. This result thought to be attributed low $Al_2O_3$ content and cooling condition. Interstitial phase increased with blast furnace slag content and gehlenite was formed by the condition of LSF and SM. So raw mix with 27~41% blast furnace slag could be converted into cement clinker by appropriate choice of melting andcooling methods in this study.
