The thickness of flame and preheat zone from burning velocity which was computed by using Premix code of Chemkin program for methane-air mixture. Also the thickness was evaluated from temperature profile which is also obtained from Premix code for the equivalence ratio of 0.5 to 1.6. The computations were carried out for the laminar flame thickness and burning velocity under the unburned gas temperature 0.5bat-30bar and temperature of 300K-700K at ${\Phi}=l.0$. Comparison of the results showed no difference between these two methods. The flame thickness was decreased by increasing the pressure and temperature, but, the affect of pressure is more significant than the effect of temperature on the flame thickness. The thickness of preheat zone was about 66.5% of the flame thickness, and flame thickness and burning velocity were also predicted by using empirical equation.
Self-excited noise generation from laminar flames in thin annular jets of methane/air premixture has been investigated experimentally. Various flames were observed in this flow configuration, including conical shape flames, ring shape flames, steady crown shape flames, and oscillating crown shape flames. Self-excited noise with the total sound pressure level of about 70dB was generated from the oscillating crown shape flames for the equivalence ratio larger than 0.95. Sound pressure and $CH^*$ chemiluminescence were measured by using a microphone and a photomultiplier tube. The frequency of generated noise was measured as functions of equivalence ratio and premixture velocity. A frequency doubling phenomena have also been observed. The flame shape during flame oscillation was reconfirmed by a synchronized PIV experiment. The velocity and pressure field were obtained from PIV. The minimum pressure was formed near the edge of flame representing circulation. By comparing the results of sound pressure, flame luminosity and PIV, the noise source can be attributed to the flame front fluctuation near the edge of the oscillating crown-shape flames.
Measurements with filaments and thermocouples and computations with Oppdif and FDS were carried out to investigate the impact of flame strain, agent addition, and buoyancy on the structure and extinction of nonpremixed counterflow flames. Measurements through 2.2 s drop tests in microgravity conditions and experiments in normal gravity conditions were compared with the results of computations. For the global strain rates 7 s$^{-1}$ through 100 s$^{-1}$ , the turning point behavior in the critical nitrogen concentration at O-g was confirmed. The effects of buoyancy, that is, changes in the flame curvature and thickness were also confirmed by the computations with FDS. There was agreement in the peak flame temperature and its position between the computations and the measurements in the near extinction methane/air diffusion flames in microgravity.

Thermodynamic analysis of extraction process from the constant pressure LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) vessel was performed in this study. LNG was assumed as a binary mixture of 90% methane and 10% ethane by mole fraction. The thermodynamic properties such as temperature, composition, specific volume and the amount of cold energy were predicted during extraction process. Pressure as a parameter ranges from 101.3kPa to 2000kPa. The result shows the peculiar phenomena for the LNG as a mixture. Both vapor and liquid extraction processes were investigated by a computer model. The property changes are negligible in the liquid extraction process. For the vapor extraction process, the temperature in the vessel increases rapidly and the extracted composition of methane decreases rapidly near the end of extracting process. Specific volume of vapor has the maximum and that of liquid has the minimum during the process. When pressure is increased, specific volume of vapor decreases and that of liquid increases. It was found that specific volume of vapor phase had a major effect on the heat absorption at constant pressure during vapor extraction process. If the pressure of the vessel increases, the total cold energy which can be utilized from LNG decreased.

In order to evaluate the effects of equivalence ratio, initial pressure and temperature on the laminar flame propagation process, and combustion radicals characteristics, experimental approaches are carried out in methane-air premixture using a constant volume chamber. Local and average radical intensities were measured to determine the time and spatial correlations between each radicals; C $H^{*}$(431 nm), $C_{2}$$^{*}$ (517 nm) and O $H^{*}$(309 nm) . The results are showed that two kinds of equation were proposed for the cases of continuous flame and intermittent flame type to evaluate actual equivalence ratio using relative intensities with each radicals. Both equations were agreed with actual equivalence ratio within 10% errors range. And schlieren photo and CCD image were compared with flame sizes at equivalence ratio 1.0.o 1.0.
To investigate cell formation in hydrocarbon/hydrogen/carbon monoxide-air premixed flames, the outward propagation and cellular instabilities were experimentally studied in a constant pressure combustion chamber at room temperature and elevated pressures. Unstretched laminar burning velocities and Markstein lengths of the mixtures were obtained by analyzing high-speed schlieren images. In this study, hydrodynamic and diffusional- thermal instabilities were evaluated to examine their effects on flame instabilities. The experimentally-measured unstretched laminar burning velocities were compared to numerical predictions using the PREMIX code. Effective Lewis numbers of premixed flames with methane addition decreased for all of the cases; meanwhile, effective Lewis numbers with propane addition increased for lean and stoichiometric conditions and increased for rich and stoichiometric cases for hydrogen-enriched flames. With the addition of propane, the propensity for cell formation significantly was diminished, whereas cellular instabilities for hydrogen-enriched flames were promoted. However, similar behavior of cellularity was obtained with the addition of methane to the reactant mixtures.
Flame extinction and the chemistry of stoichiometric methane/air mixture were investigated numerically in the PSR(perfectly stirred reactor). For the study, PSR code was modified to be possible to unsteady calculation, and the sinusoidal fluctuation was subjected to the residence time. In the region of residence time far from the extinction limit, combustion mode was strongly dependent on the frequency. The low frequency excitation provided the quasi-steady behavior on the temperature and the concentrations of related species, but small variation of temperature was observed under high frequency. In the region of residence time near the extinction limit, the mixture subjected above 1 KHz was still reacting even though extinction had to be occurred under quasi-steady concept. The attenuation of extinction limit resulted from that chemical time was comparable to the flow time. The mean mole fractions of both NO and CO were almost same regardless of imposed frequency. However, the average mole fraction of $C_2H_2$ was decreased as increasing frequency, which implies that soot yield might be reduced at the higher frequency of flow excitation. The result provides the basic concept for flame stabilization, and it will be used to design a mild combustor.

This study is conducted to scrutinize agitation effects of an ultrasonic standing wave on the dynamic behavior of methane/air premixed flame. The propagating flame is caught by high-speed schlieren images, through which flame front and local flame velocity are analyzed and obtained, too. It is revealed that the propagation velocity with ultrasonic standing wave is larger than the case without excitation except around the flammability limits. Also, vertical locations of distortions and depth of dents of the front are constant, unless the ultrasonic standing wave characteristics are not changed.

The aim of the present study was to develop model for detonation cell sizes prediction based on a deep artificial neural network of hydrogen, methane and propane mixtures with air and oxygen. The discussion about the currently available algorithms compared existing solutions and resulted in a conclusion that there is a need for a new model, free from uncertainty of the effective activation energy and the reaction length definitions. The model offers a better and more feasible alternative to the existing ones. Resulting predictions were validated against experimental data obtained during the investigation of detonation parameters, as well as with data collected from the literature. Additionally, separate models for individual mixtures were created and compared with the main model. The comparison showed no drawbacks caused by fitting one model to many mixtures. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the model may be easily extended by including more independent variables. As an example, dependency on pressure was examined. The preparation of experimental data for deep neural network training was described in detail to allow reproducing the results obtained and extending the model to different mixtures and initial conditions. The source code of ready to use models is also provided.
Steam reforming and catalytic reforming of $CH_4$ conversion to produce synthesis gas require both high temperatures and high pressure. Non-thermal plasma is considered to be a promising technology for the hydrogen rich gas production from methane. In this study, three phase AC GlidArc plasma system was employed to investigate the effects of gas composition, gas flow rate, catalyst reactor temperature and applied electric power on the $CH_4$ and $H_2$ yield and the product distribution. The studied system consisted of three electrode and it connected AC generate power system different voltages. In this study, air was used for the partial oxidation of methane. The results showed that increasing gas flow rate, catalyst reactor temperature, or electric power enhanced $CH_4$ conversion and $H_2$ concentration. The reference conditions were found at a $O_2$/C molar ratio of 0.45, a feed flow rate of 4.9 ${\ell}$/min, and input power of 1kW for the maximum conversions of $CH_4$ with a high selectivity of $H_2$ and a low reactor energy density.
