한내 석유화학 폐촉매로부터 귀금속의 회수 연구 (Recovery of Precious Metals from Spent Catalyst Generated in Domestic Petrochemical Industry)

  • 석유화학산업에서 발생된 폐촉매에는 귀금속계 금속이나 회유금속들이 잔조해 있는데, 이들 유가금속을 회수하는 것은 환경보존과 자원재활용 측면에서 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 백금계 폐촉매로부터 귀금속을 회수하는 연구를 수행하였다. 폐촉매 시료로는 Naphtha로부터 에틸렌을 제조시에 사용했던 알루미나담체 0.3% Pd 폐촉매와, 원유 정제 후 벤젠, 톨루엔, 크실렌 등을 제조시에 사용한 알루미나담체 0.3% Pt/Re 폐촉매를 사용하였다. 시료들은 배소과정을 거쳐서 탄수와 황 등 원유로부터 유입된 가연성 물질들을 제거하고, 분쇄한 다음 6N 염산 및 왕수로 침출하였다. Pd는 Fe분말을 사용한 석출법에 의하여 침출액 중에서 금속 Pd로 회수하였다. Pt/Re 폐촉매 경우에는 염산 및 왕수로 침출 후 Fe 분말을 사용하여 Pt를 먼저 회수한 다음, 여액에 황화나트륨을 첨가하여 Re 황화물로 침전시켜서 Re을 회수하였다. 본 연구에서는 폐촉매 침출시 6N 염산을 침출액으로 사용하여 왕수를 사용한 것과 비슷한 정도의 침출효과를 얻을 수 있었는데, 이것은 침출시 소요비용을 줄이고 폐산처리시에 왕수보다 쉽게 처리할 수 있다는 점에서 공점상 효과적이다.

  • 세계의 인구증가와 경제성장에 따라 천연자원 특히 전략금속의 수요가 급격히 증가하고 있다. 국가가 보유하고 있는 자원의 양은 천연자원 뿐 아니라 재활용을 통하여 얻을 수 있는 폐자원을 함께 포함해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 전략금속의 안정적 확보와 폐자원의 효율적 재활용을 위하여 코발트의 국내외 사용현황 등을 조사하였으며 아울러 미국 내에서의 코발트 물질흐름에 대한 자료를 정리하였다. 그 결과 미국에서는 2003년도에 약 8,000톤의 코발트가 사용되었으며 원료로 재사용된 스크랩의 양은 총사용량의 28%인 2,200톤이었다. 미국의 경우 초합금과 촉매의 재활용은 잘 이루어지고 있으나 자석류와 초경합금의 경우 재활용율이 다소 낮음을 알 수 있었다.

Quantitative Comparison of the Photocatalytic Efficiency of TiO2 Nanotube Film and TiO2 Powder

  • We compared the plausible reaction mechanism and quantitative efficiency of highly self-organized TiO2 nanotube (ntTiO2) film with TiO2 powder. Film was fabricated by electrochemical potentiostatic anodization of titanium thin film in an ethylene-glycol electrolyte solution containing 0.3 wt% NH4F and 2 vol% deionized water. Nanotubes with a pore size of 80-100 nm were formed by anodization at 60 V for 3 h. Humic acid (HA) was degraded through photocatalytic degradation using the ntTiO2 film. Pseudo first-order rate constants for 0.3 g of ntTiO2, 0.3 g TiO2 powder, and 1 g TiO2 powder were 0.081 min−1, 0.003 min−1, and 0.044 min−1, respectively. HA adsorption on the ntTiO2 film was minimal while adsorption on the TiO2 powder was about 20% based on thermogravimetric analysis. Approximately five-fold more normalized OH radicals were generated by the ntTiO2 film than the TiO2 powder. These quantitative findings explain why ntTiO2 film showed superior photocatalytic performance to TiO2 powder.

불산에 의한 수부 화학 화상의 치료 (Treatment for Hydrofluoric Acid Chemical Injury on Hands)

  • Purpose: Hydrofluoric acid(HF) is one of the most dangerous mineral acids with dissociated fluoride ions. As hydrofluoric acid is present in various household products(such as rust removers), a large population of industrials is at the risk of HF exposure. It is a very strong organic acid, used widely in glass etching, metal washing, and in the semiconductor industry. Even when using adequate safety measures, lack of care on the user's part results in chemical burn by HF. Symptoms caused by HF-induced chemical burns shows delayed manifestations resulting in a loss of proper treatment opportunities. We therefore reviewed 20 cases of HF-induced chemical burns and treatment principle. Methods: The objects of this study were 19 male patients and 1 female treated from March 2004 to March 2006. There were 19 cases of injury on digits and 1 on the wrist area. There were 15 cases of immediate treatment after sustaining HF-induced burns, and 5 cases of delayed treatment. As a principle, in the emergency treatment, partial or complete removal of the nail along with copious washing with normal saline was done, depending on the degree of HF invasion of the distal digital extremities. Results: The 15 cases who came to the hospital immediately after the injury were healed completely without sequelae, and those who delayed their treatment needed secondary surgical measures, due to the severity of inflammation and necrosis of the digital tissues. Conclusion: As the industrial sector develops, the use of HF is increasing more and more, leading to increase in incidences of HF-induced chemical burns. When treating chemical burns caused by HF, washing by copious amounts of normal saline, along with early removal of the nails, rather than calcium gluconate, seems to be a available method for preserving the shape and function of the digits and the nail. The education of patients regarding this subject should be empathized accordingly.

블라인드 리벳 너트 체결 적합성에 관한 연구 (Accurate Fastening of Blind Rivet Nuts: A Study)

  • Blind rivet nuts (BRNs) are increasingly used in automotive industry because unlike conventional bolt fastening, BRN fastening requires access from one side only. Generally, fastening is conducted using automated units, but manual fastening may be resorted to in case of small quantities. Since the fastening direction is not exactly perpendicular to the sheet metal, the BRN axis is tilted with respect to the plate and may result in damage or incomplete fastening. As the tilt angle (clamping angle α) increases, undesired plate deformation occurs and the contact area of the plate with the BRN fastening area decreases, reducing the clamping effect. In this study, the reduction of the clamping effect with the α was investigated to ensure stable fastening force. M6 BRNs were used in the tests. The fastening force was measured as follows: the plate was cut in half through the center of the hole; the BRN was inserted into the hole and fastened; and the clamping angle a was measured (values, 0° ≤ α ≤ 9°). The force leading to the separation of the halves was measured using a universal testing machine (UTM). The maximum α range, in which the fastening force remains stable, was determined. Finite element (FE) analysis confirmed that the fastening force decreases approximately linearly with increasing α. Based on the experiment and FE analysis using various α, the fastening force was found to decrease with α. Further, the maximum tolerance for α that provides secure fastening without damage is suggested.

자전연소합성법에 의한 ZrB2 세라믹분말합성 및 NaCl의 영향 (Preparation of ZrB2 by Self-propagating Synthesis and Its Characteristics)

  • Zirconium boride is an artificial or which is rarely found in the nature. $ZrB_2$ is popular in the hard material industry because it has a high melting point, excellent mechanical properties and chemical stability. There are two known methods to synthesize $ZrB_2$. The first involves direct reaction between Zr and B, and the second is by reduction of the metal halogen. However, these two methods are known to be unsuitable for mass production. SHS(Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis) is an efficient and economic method for synthesizing hard materials because it uses exothermic reactions. In this study, $ZrB_2$ was successfully synthesized by subjecting $ZrO_2$, Mg and $B_2O_3$ to SHS. Because of the high combustion temperature and rapid combustion, in conjunction with the stoichiometric ratio of $ZrO_2$, Mg and $B_2O_3$; single phase $ZrB_2$ was not synthesized. In order to solve the temperature problem, Mg and NaCl additives were investigated as diluents. From the experiments it was found that both diluents effectively stabilized the reaction and combustion regime. The final product, made under optimum conditions, was single-phase $ZrB_2$ of $0.1-0.9{\mu}m$ particle size.

An Establishment of Super Wi-Fi Environment in Ships Based on UHF System of TMS

  • Ships built today are larger in scale and feature more complex structures. The ever-evolving systems used on board a ship require vast amounts of data processing. In the future, with the advent of smart ships, unmanned ships and other next-generation ships, the volumes of data to be processed will continue to increase. Yet, to date, ship data has been processed using wired networks. Placed at fixed locations, the nodes on wired networks often fail to process data from mobile devices. Despite many attempts made to use Wi-Fi on ships just as on land to create wireless networks, Wi-Fi has hardly been available due to the complex metal structures of ships. Therefore, Wi-Fi on ships has been patchy as the ship-wide total Wi-Fi coverage has not properly implemented. A new ship-wide wireless network environment is part of the technology conducive to the shipbuilding industry. The wireless network environment should not only serve the purpose of communication but also be able to manage and control multiple features in real-time: fault diagnostics, tracking, accident prevention and safety management. To better understand the characteristics of wireless frequencies for ships, this paper tests the widely used TETRA, UHF and Wi-Fi and sheds light on the features, advantages and disadvantages of each technology in ship settings. The proposed deployment of a Super Wi-Fi network leveraging the legacy UHF system of TMS generates a ship-wide wireless network environment. The experimental findings corroborate the feasibility of the proposed ship-wide Super Wi-Fi network environment.

심비디움 2배체, 4배체의 분화수명 조사 및 전자코를 이용한 향기패턴분석 (Scent Analysis Using an Electronic Nose and Flowering Period of Potted Diploid and Tetraploid Cymbidium)

  • 배수성에 따른 심비디움 꽃 향기의 변화를 알아보기 위해 전자코를 이용하여 C. Golden Elf 'Sundust'의 2배체와 4배체 꽃을 PCA(주성분분석)와 DFA(판별함수분석)로 분석한 결과, 꽃 한 송이의 향기는 2배체에 비해 4배체에서 강하게 나타났고, 화기 조직별 향기는 예주가 가장 강하게 나타났으며 꽃잎과 설판은 근접한 패턴을 보였다. 배수성에 따른 심비디움의 분화수명의 차이를 알아보기 위해 C. Golden Elf 'Sundust'와 C. Elma 'Orient Toyo' 분화의 화경을 조사한 결과 개화기간뿐 만 아니라 화경당 화수, 화경장에서 모두 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구는 심비디움을 비롯한 다른 종류의 난과식물 배수체 육종에 있어 기초자료로 유용하게 활용 될 것이다.

전자코를 사용한 가열처리 야자유의 판별 (Discrimination of the Heated Coconut Oil using the Electronic Nose)

  • 본 연구는 야자유를 190, $220^{\circ}C$에서 24시간 가열한 후 6개의 MOS로 구성된 전자코로 산패정도를 판별하였다. 주성분분석 결과 제1주성분 값이 열처리 시간에 따라 +0.952에서 0.325로 감소하였다. 가열 온도를 높임에 따라 야자유의 산패정도도 증가하였다. 또 다른 방법에 하나로 GC를 바탕으로 한 SAW센서가 부착된 전자코를 사용한 결과 후각이미지가 뚜렷하게 차이가 나는 것을 보여주었다. 160, $220^{\circ}C$에서 가열한 야자유로부터 휘발 성분에 대한 GC peak의 수와 넓이가 가열온도와 가열 처리 시간에 따라 증가함을 보여주었다. 이러한 방법은 신속하면서도 곧바로 알기 쉽게 데이터를 이미지화함으로써 가열 처리된 야자유의 휘발성분을 전자코로 신속하고 간편하게 분석하여 가열 처리 정도가 예측 가능하였다.

TiAl-Nb 합금의 고온상변태와 일방향응고에 관한 연구 (Study on High Temperature Phase Transformation and Directional Solidification of TiAl-Nb Alloy)

  • Phase transformation phenomenon at high temperature was investigated by using designed TiAl-Nb alloys with addition of the ${\beta}$ stabilizer. Examination of dendritic morphologies in arc-melted button ingot could reveal the crystallography of the primary solidification phase. It was found that the addition of ${\beta}$ stabilizer(Nb) shifted the high temperature region of the binary Ti-Al phase diagram to the high Al composition side so that ${\beta}$ phase forms as a primary crystal even at higher Al composition compared with the binary Ti-Al system. The ${\beta}$ was found to be the primary solidification phase for alloys with Al content less than about 52 at.%. The composition of ${\beta}$ solidification in Ti-Al-Nb ternary system could be determined from the partial liquidus projection which was constructed by observing the microstructure of arc-melted buttons. The Ti-46Al-(6, 8)Nb composition was selected for ${\beta}$ solidification and the directional solidification was performed by a floating zone-type DS apparatus at the growth rate 30 mm/hr respectively.
