가압함침법에 의한 고열전도도-저열팽창계수 SiCp/Al 금속복합재료의 제조공정 및 특성평가 (Fabrication Process and Characterization of High Thermal Conductivity-Low CTE SiCp/Al Metal Matrix Composites by Pressure Infiltration Casting Process)

  • The fabrication process and thermal properties of 50~71vol% SiCp/Al metal matrix composites (MMCs) were investigated. The 50~71vol% SiCp/Al MMCs fabricated by pressure infiltration casting process showed that thermal conductivities were 118~170W/mK and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) were 9.5~$6.5{\times}10^{-6}/K$. Specially, the thermal conductivity and CTE of 71vol%SiCp/Al MMCs were 115~156W/mK and 6~$7{\times}10^{-6}/K$. respectively, which showed a improved themal properties than the conventional electronic packaging materials such as ceramics and metals.

  • Aluminum based metal matrix composites(MMCs) are well known for their high specific strength, stiffness and hardness. They are gaining further importance because of their high wear resistance. In this study, Al/Saffil-20%, Al/Saffil-5%/Al2O3(particle type)-15% and Al/Saffil-5%/SiC(particle type)-15% hybird MMCs' wear behavior were characterized by the pin-on-disk test under various normal load The superior wear resistance was exhibited at Al/Saffil-5%/SiC(particle type)-15% MMCs. And this MMCs' predominant wear mechanism is subsurface cracking in the low load wear regime. Others(Al/Saffil-20%, Al/Saffil-5%/Al2O3(particle type)-15%) showed the similar wear resistance with each other at the same test condition. In the low load & room temperature condition, the wear resistance was improved due to the high hardness of the ceramic reinforcements. As the test load increased, the wear properties were governed by the wear properties of matrix.

  • In this paper, rotating-bending fatigue tests of the SiC-whisker- reinforced 6061-T6 aluminum alloy and 6061-T6 alumiunm alloy made by power metallurgy were carried out to investigate the fatigue characteristics of plain and notched specimens at room temperature. The fatigue mechnisms in both materials were clarified through successive surface observations using the plastic replica method. In the case of the SiC-whisker-reinforced composites, there are whisker rich and poor zones and the fatigue crack is nucleated from the end of whiskers near the boundary. On the other hand, in the case of the 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, the fatigue crack is nucleated from defects and propagates by shear. Moreover, the results were discussed based on linear notch mechanics.

  • The experimental data from the central composite design runs were utilized for mathematical models far the drilling characteristics containing linear, quadratic and interactive effects of the parameters such as volume fraction of TiC in the composites, drill speed, feed rate and drill diameter. The models were developed via stepwise selection where the insignificant effects were removed using t-test. The models were subjected to optimization of maximizing drill life and satisfying the other constraints.

  • In order to overcome the weak actuation and relaxation problems during the deformation of IPMC actuator, polymeric anion (polystyrenesulfonate)-doped polypyrrole(Ppy(PSS)) was electrodeposited onto IPMC actuator. Electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance study showed that hydrated cations were instilled into Ppy(PSS) film and polymeric-anion dopants introduced during polymerization were not expelled. Ppy(PSS)-coated IPMC actuator formed two electrode/electrolyte interfaces, Pt/nafion and Ppy(PSS)/bulk solution, and additive volume expansion phenomena at interfaces induced the large deformation compensating the relaxation of actuation by back diffusion of water.

  • In order to increase the wettability between ceramic fiber and metal matrix, ceramic fibers are generally coated with metal. In this paper, we examined how the nickel layers coated on continuous graphite fiber to increase the wettability are affected with variation applied pressure. In order to examine the behavior of nickel layer with variation of applied pressure, microstructure and nickel mapping of composites were investigated with SEM, and tensile properties of the composite were tested with UTM. As the applied pressure increases, nickel layers were resolved into the aluminum matrix and ultimate tensile strength of the composite decreased.

  • An enhanced continuum model for the size dependent strengthening of particle reinforced composites is presented. The model accounts explicitly for the enhanced strength in a discretely defined "punched zone" around the particle in a metal matrix composite as a result of geometrically necessary dislocations developed through a CTE mismatch. The size of the punched zone presents an intrinsic length scale, and this results in the size dependence of the overall behavior of the composite. Results show that predicted 0.2% offset yield stresses are increasing with smaller inclusions and larger volume fractions and this length-scale effect on the enhanced strength can be observed by explicitly including GND region around the particle.

  • The fabrication process and analysis of thermal properties of 50~76vo1% SiCp/Al metal matrix composites(MMCs) for heatsink materials in electronic packaging were investigated. The 50~76vo1% SiCp/Al MMCs fabricated by pressure infiltration casting process showed that thermal conductivities were 85~170W/mK and coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) were ranged 10~6ppm1k. Specially, the thermal conductivity and CTE of 71vo1%SiCp/Al MMCs were ranged 115~156W/mK and 6~7ppm/K. respectively, which showed a improved thermal properties than the conventional electronic packaging materials such as ceramics and metals.

  • In this study, the optimal condition of surface treatment for aluminum panel was determined by measuring the contact angle and T-peel strength. The contact angle was measured for various mixture ratios of acetylene gas and nitrogen gas. The mixture (acetylene gas to nitrogen gas) ratios used were 1:9, 3:7, 5:5, 7:3, and 9:1. The contact angle was also measured as a function of time of surface treatment. The results showed that the contact angle was a minimum for mixture ratio of 5:5. T-peel strength was a maximum for the treatment time of 30 second.
