  • Cordierite ceramics with low dielectric constants were obtained through sol-gel techniques using as metal alkoxides. The powders for the sintered cordierite ceramics were prepared by hydrolysis of metal alkoxides with ethanol and distilled water. In the hydrolysis, the mole ratio of HCI/TEOS was controlled by changing the amount of HCI as a catalyst. The sol-gel derived powders were dried, pressed, and fired at $1300^{\circ}C$. The dried powders were calcined at $800{\circ}C$ for 3hours to remove residual organics. The fired bodies with different dielectric constants were obtained by using HCI adjusted to various mole ratios of HCI/TEOS in the process. The variation of the amount of HCI catalyst led to a significant influence on dielectric contant, which was attributed to the formation of pores in the sintered body. Especially, the porosity of the sintered body influenced the dielectric constants.

  • Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were synthesized by thermal chemical vapor deposition(CVD) method. To fabricate CNT gas sensor, catalyst metal layer was deposited on microstructure. The CNT gas detecting layer was grown by thermal CVD method on the catalyst metal layer. In order to investigate the gas sensing characteristics of the fabricated CNT gas sensor, it was exposed in NO$_2$ gas and sensitivity, response, and recovery time were measured. As the result, this sensor has better reproductibility and faster recovery time than another CNT gas sensors.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate reductive dechlorination of aromatic hydrocarbons using zero valent metals (ZVMs) and catalysts as reactive materials for permeable reactive barriers (PRBs). A group of small aromatic hydrocarbons such as monochlorophenols, phenol, benzene were readily reduced with palladium catalyst and zero valent iron. Poly-aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were also tested with the catalysts and zero valent metal combinations. The aromatic rings were reduced and partly reduced PAHs were found as the daughter compounds. Current preliminary study implicate that ZVMs and modified catalysts can be successfully applied for PRBs which currently applicable for halogenated organic compounds and some inorganic contaminants including chromium(Ⅵ) and nitrate.

  • The transesterification reaction between ethanolamine and methyl-methacrylate was kinetically investigated in the presence of various metal acetate catalysts at $110^{\circ}C$. The transesterification was found to obey first-order kinetice with respect to the concentration of ethanolamine and methyl-methacrylate, respectively. By the Arrhenius plot, the activation energy has been calculated as 11.9 Kcal with lead acetate catalyst, 14.7 Kcal without catalyst. The reactivities has highest value where the electronegativity and instability constant (Kij) values for the metal acetate catalysts are about 1.6.

  • The effect of sodium (Na) promotion was studied in the biphenol (BP) hydrogenation using various Pd/C catalysts. Different amounts of sodium metal were used for promotion with Pd/C and their effects on BP hydrogenation were observed. The promotion order was changed to compare the effect of the position of the promoter in relation to the palladium (Pd) metal on the catalytic activity and yield of the final product, bicyclohexyl-4,4'-diol (BHD). Pd/C catalysts prepared from different methods were also sodium-promoted and the changes of the reaction pathway according to the type of promoted Pd/C catalyst were compared.

  • At present studies, we are going to suggest the new type of Perovskite derived catalysts which modify the defects of transition metals impregnated. Perovskite type catalyst is a typical mixed metal oxides, and there are "defect"s (from like that oxygen, cation, crystallic structure) were made by difference from composition, preparing method and so forth. And because this, its electro-magnetic character could be much changed. By using this phenomena, it could utilize the modification of adsorption/desorption characters as well as the catalytic activities in NOx reduction. Because perovskite type catalyst can exchange the metal of the each lattice site freely and it is possible to represent the peculiar.

  • A Cryptate (221) having a short alcohol pendant (2) was metallated with europium(Ⅲ) in anhydrous condition, and its hydrolytic activity for phosphate esters at neutral pH was examined. While the activity for the phosphate diester and monoester is comparable to that of the parent metal complex [1Eu]3+, its hydrolytic activity towards a phosphate triester is significantly suppressed. Potentiometric titration and luminescence spectroscopic studies for the equilibrium behavior of the complex in solution suggest that a dimer formation through the metal hydroxides as well as the pendant alcohol is likely to happen. The low hydrolytic activity for the triester seems to be associated with the dimer formation.

  • One-dimensional semiconductor nanowires and nanorods have attracted increasing interest due to their unique physical properties and diversity for potential electronic and photonic device applications., Unlike the conventional nanowires fabricated by metal catalyst-assisted vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) method, we developed metalorganic vapor-phase epitaxial (MOVPE) growth for which no catalyst is needed. The structural and photoluminecent properties will also be discussed. (omitted)

  • We developed a novel growth method of aligned carbon nanotubes. Aligned carbon nanotubes are grown on a metal catalyst on a glass substrate using biased Helicon plasma chemical vapor deposition (HPECVD) of $CH_4/H_2$ gases from 400 C to 500 C. The Helicon plasma source is one of the high-density plasma sources and is promising for low temperature carbon deposition. A Ni film was used as a catalyst to reduce the activation energy of the nanotubes' growth. The carbon nanotubes were deposited on the nickel catalysis layer selectively.

  • In new millennium, wide-reaching demands for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst have been increased gradually in new millennium. SCR catalyst can prevent the NOx emission to protect the environment. In SCR catalyst the main composition of the catalyst is typically TiO2 (70~80%), WO3 (7~10%), V2O5 (~1%) and others. When the SCR catalysts are used up and disposed to landfills, it is problematic that those should exist in the landfill site permanently due to their extremely low degradability. A new advanced technology needs to be developed primarily to protect environment and then recover the valuable metals. Hydrometallurgical techniques such as leaching and liquid-liquid extraction was designed and developed for the spent SCR catalyst processing. In a first stage, V and W selectively leached from spent SCR catalyst, then both the metals were processed by liquid-liquid extraction process. Various commercial extractants such as D2EHPA, PC 88A, TBP, Cyanex 272, Aliquat 336 were tested for selective extraction of title metals. Scrubbing and stripping studies were tested and optimized for vanadium and tungsten extraction and possible separation. 3rd phase studies were optimized by using iso-decanol reagent.
