The absorption and the interference shielding of electromagnetic wave have been very important issues for commercial and military purposes. The stealth technique is one of the most typical applications of electromagnetic wave absorption technology. This study has started for the development of composite fillers containing dielectric and magnetic lossy materials. To improve the electromagnetic characteristics of conductive nano fillers, carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with nickel-phosphorous (Ni-P) or nickel-iron (Ni-Fe) have been fabricated by the electroless plating process. Observations by the electron microscopy (SEM/TEM) and element analyzer (EDS/ELLS) showed the uniform Ni-P and Ni-Fe coated CNFs. The compositions of the plating layers were about Ni-6wt%P and Ni-70wt%Fe, respectively. The average thicknesses of the plating layers were about $50\;{\sim}\;100\;nm$.
With rapid industrialization and population growth, fossil fuel use has increased, which has a significant impact on the environment. Hydrogen does not cause contamination in the energy production process, so it seems to be a solution, but it is essential to find an appropriate storage method due to its low efficiency. In this study, Mg-based alloys capable of ensuring safety and high volume and hydrogen storage density per weight was studied, and Mg2NiHx synthesized with Ni capable of improving hydrogenation kinetics. In addition, in order to improve thermal stability, a hydrogen storage composite material synthesized with CaO was synthesized to analyze the change in hydrogenation reaction. In order to analyze the changes in the metallurgical properties of the materials through the process, XRD, SEM, BET, etc. were conducted, and hydrogenation behavior was confirmed by TGA and hydrogenation kinetics analysis. In addition, in order to evaluate the impact of the process on the environment, the environmental impact was evaluated through "Material Life Cycle Assessments" based on CML 2001 and EI99' methodologies, and compared and analyzed with previous studies. As a result, the synthesis of CaO caused additional power consumption, which had a significant impact on global warming, and further research is required to improve this.

An important business-field of world-wide steel-industry is the coating of thin metal-sheets with zinc, zinc-aluminum and aluminum based materials. These products mostly go into automotive industry. in particular for the car-body. into building and construction industry as well as household appliances. Due to mass-production, the processing is done in large continuously operating plants where the mostly cold-rolled metal-strip as the substrate is handled in coils up to 40 tons unwind before and rolled up again after passing the processing plant which includes cleaning, annealing, hot-dip galvanizing / aluminizing and chemical treatment. In the liquid Zn, Zn-AI, AI-Zn and AI-Si bathes a combined action of corrosion and wear under high temperature and high stress onto the transfer components (rolls) accounts for major economic losses. Most critical here are the bearing systems of these rolls operating in the liquid system. Rolls in liquid system can not be avoided as they are needed to transfer the steel-strip into and out of the crucible. Since several years, ceramic roller bearings are tested here [1.2], however, in particular due to uncontrollable Slag-impurities within the hot bath [3], slide bearings are still expected to be of a higher potential [4]. The today's state of the art is the application of slide bearings based on Stellite\ulcorneragainst Stellite which is in general a 50-60 wt% Co-matrix with incorporated Cr- and W-carbides and other composites. Indeed Stellite is used as the bearing-material as of it's chemical properties (does not go into solution), the physical properties in particular with poor lubricating properties are not satisfying at all. To increase the Sliding behavior in the bearing system, about 0.15-0.2 wt% of lead has been added into the hot-bath in the past. Due to environmental regulations. this had to be reduced dramatically_ This together with the heavily increasing production rates expressed by increased velocity of the substrate-steel-band up to 200 m/min and increased tractate power up to 10 tons in modern plants. leads to life times of the bearings of a few up to several days only. To improve this situation. the Mechanical Alloying (MA) TeChnique [5.6.7.8] is used to prOduce advanced Stellite-based bearing materials. A lubricating phase is introduced into Stellite-powder-material by MA, the composite-powder-particles are coated by High Energy Milling (HEM) in order to produce bearing-bushes of approximately 12 kg by Sintering, Liquid Phase Sintering (LPS) and Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP). The chemical and physical behavior of samples as well as the bearing systems in the hot galvanizing / aluminizing plant are discussed. DependenCies like lubricant material and composite, LPS-binder and composite, particle shape and PM-route with respect to achievable density. (temperature--) shock-reSistibility and corrosive-wear behavior will be described. The materials are characterized by particle size analysis (laser diffraction), scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. corrosive-wear behavior is determined using a special cylinder-in-bush apparatus (CIBA) as well as field-test in real production condition. Part I of this work describes the initial testing phase where different sample materials are produced, characterized, consolidated and tested in the CIBA under a common AI-Zn-system. The results are discussed and the material-system for the large components to be produced for the field test in real production condition is decided. Outlook: Part II of this work will describe the field test in a hot-dip-galvanizing/aluminizing plant of the mechanically alloyed bearing bushes under aluminum-rich liquid metal. Alter testing, the bushes will be characterized and obtained results with respect to wear. expected lifetime, surface roughness and infiltration will be discussed. Part III of this project will describe a second initial testing phase where the won results of part 1+11 will be transferred to the AI-Si system. Part IV of this project will describe the field test in a hot-dip-aluminizing plant of the mechanically alloyed bearing bushes under aluminum liquid metal. After testing. the bushes will be characterized and obtained results with respect to wear. expected lifetime, surface roughness and infiltration will be discussed.

Purpose: To improve glasses temple's insert processibility of CA/PEG blend, triacetin with higher specific heat values in the processing temperature range is used as second plasticizer. Methods: The total amount of plasticizer is fixed at 30 wt% by CA. To determine optimal CA/PEG/triacetin blend for glasses frame, blends with different composition ratio were examined by various analysis: thermal properties, mechanical properties, glossiness. Results: Specific heat of the CA/PEG blend increased as the content of triacetin. In CA/PEG/triacetin blends, as triacetin concentration is increased, glass transition temperature is decreased and heat conservation rate of composites is increased. Furthermore, CA/PEG/triacetin blend exhibited higher mechanical properties and similar gloss characterization with CA/PEG blend. Conclusions: It is possible to improve the processibility inserting metal support to CA temple through varying the weight ratio of PEG/triacetin. The extruded sheets of CA/PEG/triacetin blend had better glossiness and mechanical properties than those of CA/PEG blend.
The mechanical property related to lap shear strength of the joint structure between carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite and metal (Ni-Cr Alloy) under varying environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) was studied in order to apply to the aircraft fan blade. Room temperature dry (RTD), elevated temperature wet (ETW), and cold temperature dry (CTD) environmental conditions were chosen for investigation based on the flight conditions of aircraft. Lap shear strength tests were conducted according to ASTM Standard D3528 to evaluate the shear strength. The microstructure characteristic of failure zone was analyzed by SEM images to check the adhesive shear strength with the three environmental conditions. In comparison with shear strength for the RTD condition, the shear strength in the ETW condition was reduced by 72.8% while those for the CTD condition increased by 56.5%. The moisture absorption and high temperature in ETW condition strongly had an affect on mechanical property of adhesive, while cold temperature could enhance the adhesive shear strength due to the higher brittleness.
Laminated composite materials have excellent in-plane properties, but are vulnerable in thickness directions, making it easy to delamination when bending and torsion loads are applied. Thickness directional reinforcement methods of composite materials that delay delamination include Z-pinning, Stitching, Tufting, etc., and typically Z-pinning and Stitching method are commonly used. The Z-pinning is reinforcement method by inserting metal or carbon pin in the thickness direction of prepreg, and the conventional stitching process is a method of reinforcing the mechanical properties in the thickness direction by intersecting the upper and lower fibers on the preform. In this paper, I-fiber stitching method, which complement and improve weakness of Z-pinning and Stitching method, was proposed, and the static strength of composite single-lap joints using I-fiber stitching process were evaluated. The single-lap joints were fabricated by a co-curing method using an autoclave vacuum bag process. The thickness of the composite adherend was fixed, and 5 types of specimens were manufactured with varying the stitching pattern (5×5, 7×7) and angle (0°, 45°). From the test, the failure load of the specimen reinforced by the I-fiber stitching process was increased by up to 143% compared to that of specimen without reinforcement.

Fluosilicic acid(H2SiF6) is recovered as an aqueous solution which absorbs $SiF_4$ produced from the manufacturing of industrial-graded H3PO4 or HF. Generally, fluosilicates are the salts produced by the reaction of H2SiF6 and metal salts. Addition of fluosilicates to cement endows odd properties through unique chemical reaction with the fresh and hardened cement. This study was performed to know mechanical properties and watertightness using fluosilicates based composite made from fluosilicates and other compounds. Mix proportions for experiments were modulated at 0.45 of water to cement ratio and $0.0-2.0\%$ of adding ratio of fluosilicates based composite. Evaluation for mechanical properties of concrete was conducted to know fresh state of concrete, hardening state of concrete, and watertightness. Evaluation for watertightness of concrete was carried out permeability, absorption test and porosity analysis. In addition. Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray(EDX) used for investigating micro-structure and atomic component distributed in hardened concrete. It is ascertained that characteristics of mechanical properties and watertightness was more improved than non-added because of packing role of fluosilicates based composite and pozzolanic reaction of soluble $SiO_2$. Also, concrete added fluosilicates based composite had a tendency to delay setting time and only $0.5\%$ addition of fluosilicates based composite delayed 150 minutes compared with non-added.

For the construction materials, concrete, as the most widely used material, is focused on its improvement of performance. Although concrete has many advantages of easiness of handling, economical benefits, and high compressive strength, low tensile strength, brittleness and drying shrinkage are reported as the drawbacks of concrete. Hence, to solve these drawbacks of concrete, many research has conducted especially using fiber-reinforced concrete technology. Especially, HPFRCC which has high volume of fiber reinforcement was suggested as a solution of these drawbacks of normal concrete with increased ductility while it has the possibility of workability loss with fiber clumping which can cause low performance of concrete. Therefore, in this paper, optimized fiber combination with either or both metal and organic fibers is suggested to provide better performance of HPFRCC in tensile strength and ductility. As the results of experiment, better workability was achieved with 1 % of single fiber rather than multiple fibers combinations, espeically, short steel fiber showed the best workability result. Furthermore, in the case of organic fibers which showed higher air content than steel fibers, higher compressive strength was achieved while lower tensile and flexural strength were shown.
In this study, an acrylic acid (AAc) was grafted on a polypropylene (PP) nonwoven fabric using electron beam irradiation. Electron beam grafting was carried out under various conditions to produce AAc grafted PP (PP-g-AAc) nonwoven fabric having a grafting yield of about 50% at radiation dose of 100 kGy and a monomer concentration of 60%. The physical and chemical properties of PP-g-AAc nonwoven fabric were evaluated by SEM, ATR-FTIR, thermal analysis and tensile strength. The morphology of PP and PP-g-AAc nonwoven fabric confirmed by SEM showed no significant change, and it was judged that AAc was introduced into PP nonwoven fabric from ATR-FTIR. PP-g-AAc nonwoven fabric showed an increase in tensile strength and a decrease in tensile strain compared to PP nonwoven fabric. However, since change of value is not significant, it is considered that there is no significant influence on the physical characterization. Adsorption experiments of PP-g-AAc nonwoven fabric on various ions showed selective adsorption behavior for lead ion. In conclusion, the electron beam radiation-induced PP-g-AAc nonwoven fabric is expected to be applied as an effective adsorbent for the adsorption of lead ions.
Nuclear fuel cladding used in a nuclear power plant must possess superior oxidation resistance in the coolant atmosphere of high temperature/high pressure. However, as was the case for the critical LOCA (loss-of-coolant accident) accident that took place in the Fukushima disaster, there is a risk of hydrogen explosion when the nuclear fuel cladding and steam reacts dramatically to cause a rapid high-temperature oxidation accompanied by generation of a huge amount of hydrogen. Hence, an active search is ongoing for an alternative material to be used for manufacturing of nuclear fuel cladding. Studies are currently aimed at improving the safety of this cladding. In particular, ceramic-based nuclear fuel cladding, such as SiC, is receiving much attention due to the excellent radiation resistance, high strength, chemical durability against oxidation and corrosion, and excellent thermal conduction of ceramics. In the present study, cladding with $SiC_f/SiC$ protective films was fabricated using a process that forms a matrix phase by polymer impregnation of polycarbosilane (PCS) after filament-winding the SiC fiber onto an existing Zry-4 cladding tube. It is analyzed the oxidation and microstructure of the metal cladding with $SiC_f/SiC$ composite protective films using a drop tube furnace for thermal shock test.
