  • A data registry is a physical place to keep characteristics of classes of objects exist in the real world when they are chosen to record as data. It provides a centralized directory to describe the meaning, representation, and identification of data elements and their values. It assists to prevent redundancy and to preserve common understanding about the data described in a metadata set. In this paper, we investigate and classify various components of IBS(Intelligent Building Systems), specially HVAC in Building Automation Systems. We present IBSDR(Intelligent Building Systems Data Registry) model that specifies not only the detailed information on data elements but also the process of documenting data in IBS. It functions as the medium to create the data sharing environment to maintain exact meaning of data for every data elements so that database management designers or related users can create and exchange their DB without major modification. It also serves as a clearinghouse for information about IBS data. So all users can freely retrieve from and register data elements to IBSDR based on ISO/IEC 11179 through World Wide Web.

  • A sensor registry system (SRS) provides semantic metadata about a sensor based on location information of a mobile device in order to solve a problem of interoperability between a sensor and a device. However, if the GPS of the mobile device is incorrectly received, the SRS receives incorrect sensor information and has a problem in that it cannot connect with the sensor. This paper proposes a dual collaboration strategy based on geographical embedding and LSTM-based path prediction to improve the probability of successful requests between mobile devices and sensors to address this problem and evaluate with the Monte Carlo approach. Through experiments, it was shown that the proposed method can compensate for location abnormalities and is an effective multicasting mechanism.

  • Under ubiquitous environment, applications can gather and utilize various sensing information. There are many issues such as energy management, protocol standardization, independency on sensor fields, and security to be resolved for the complete ubiquitous computing. Especially, the independent information access in the sensor field is one of the most important issues to maximize the usability of sensors in various sensor fields. However, existing frameworks are not suitable for the ubiquitous computing environment because of data heterogeneity between data elements in sensor fields. Existing applications are dependent to sensor fields and sensors in the existing ubiquitous computing on environment is dependent to the application in the sensor field. In other word, an application can utilize just information from a specific sensor field. To overcome this restriction, many issues from a hardware or software view must be resolved. In this paper, we provide the design and implementation of the Metadata Registry-based framework (UbiMDR) of the Ubiquitous environment. This framework can provides the semantic interoperability among ubiquitous applications or various sensor fields. In addition, we describe comparison evaluation between conventional Ubiquitous computing framework and UbiMDR framework with data accuracy of interoperability.

  • To share and standardize information, especially in the database environments, MDR (Metadata Registry) can be used to integrate various heterogeneous databases within a particular domain. But due to the discrepancies of data element representation between organizations, global information integration is not so easy. And users who are searching integrated information on the Web have limitation to obtain schema information for the underlying source databases. To solve those problems, in this paper, we present a 3-layered Information Integration System (LI2S) based on MDRs and Ontology. The purpose of proposed architecture is to define information integration model, which combine both of the nature of MDRs standard specification and functionality of ontology for the concept and relation. Adopting agent technology to the proposed model plays a key role to support the hierarchical and independent information integration architecture. Ontology is used as for a role of semantic network from which it extracts concept from the user query and the establishment of relationship between MDRs for the data element. (MDR and Knowledge Base are used as for the solution of discrepancies of data element representation between MDRs. Based on this architectural concept, LI2S was designed and implemented.

  • Recently many researchers have been studying various methods for data integration. Among the integration methods that the researchers have studied, there are a method using metadata repository, and Topic Map which identifies the relationships between the data. This study suggests Meta-Topic Map to create Topic Map about search keyword by applying metadata and Topic Map, and the XMDR as a way to connect Meta-Topic Map with metadata in the legacy system. Considering the semantic relationship of user's keyword in the legacy system, the Meta-Topic Map provides the Topic Map format and generates the Topic Map about user's keyword. The XMDR performs structural integration through solving the problem of heterogeneity among metadata in the legacy system. The suggested svides isproves the interoperability among existing Relational Database constructed in the legacy system and the search efficiency and is efficient in expanding the system.

  • Sensor Registry System (SRS) has been devised for maintaining semantic interoperability of data on heterogeneous sensor networks. SRS measures the connectability of the mobile device to ambient sensors based on positions and only provides metadata of sensors that may be successfully connected. The step of identifying the ambient sensors which can be successfully connected is called sensor filtering. Improving the performance of sensor filtering is one of the core issues of SRS research. In reality, GPS sometimes shows the wrong position and thus leads to failed sensor filtering. Therefore, this paper proposes a new sensor filtering strategy using geographical embedding and neural network-based path prediction. This paper also evaluates the service provision rate with the Monte Carlo approach. The empirical study shows that the proposed method can compensate for position abnormalities and is an effective model for sensor filtering in SRS.

  • Currently operated many information systems are faced up with various difficulties to exchange data and to cooperate between different systems because the factors, such as data exchangibility and system interoperability, are not considered during the system development from scratch. To overcome these problems, we attempt to apply e-Government Grid to resolve the heterogeneity of systems and propose Government Information Metadata Registry (GIMDR) for assurance of interoperability of distributed and independent information systems in e-government environments. Consequently, the case study is introduced to provide the seamless connection between distributed systems. The proposed e-Government Grid and GIMDR are expected to reduce the heterogeneity of the distributed systems for interoperability, as well as increase the accessability and transparency of cooperating information.

  • In order to utilize the operational metadata retrieval system which is based on the semantic association between the research outcomes of the Korean Research Memory (KRM), the systematic integration of the metadata of the research outcomes with the term data registry (DR) was required. This study presents the ontology which can be used effectively to support the KRM. It includes the concept modeling of the knowledge structure of research outcomes, information retrieval service modeling that applies an analytical approach to researchers' needs in conjunction with the term DR, and also some technical and administrative suggestions for future system management.
