This paper proposes QoS mesh routing protocol for IEEE 802.16 based wireless mesh networks. QoS mesh routing protocol proposed in this paper is a proactive hop-by-hop QoS routing protocol. The goal of our routing protocol is not only to find a route from a source to a destination, but also optimal route that satisfies QoS requirements, given in terms of bandwidth and delay as default QoS parameters. In this paper, we first analyze possible types of routing protocols that have been studied for MANET and show proactive hop-by-hop routing protocols are the most appropriate for wireless mesh networks. Then, we present a network model for IEEE 802.16 based wireless mesh networks and propose a proactive hop-by-hop QoS routing protocol. Through our simulation, we represent that our routing protocol outperforms QOLSR protocol in terms of end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio and routing overhead.
In this paper, an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based minimum end-to-end delay (MED) distributed routing scheme for mobile backhaul wireless mesh networks is proposed. The proposed scheme selects routing paths based on OFDMA subcarrier synchronization control, subcarrier availability, and delay. In the proposed scheme, OFDMA is used to transmit frames between mesh routers using type-I hybrid automatic repeat request over multipath Rayleigh fading channels. Compared with other distributed routing algorithms, such as most forward within radius R, farthest neighbor routing, nearest neighbor routing, and nearest with forwarding progress, simulation results show that the proposed MED routing can reduce end-to-end delay and support highly reliable routing using only local information of neighbor nodes.
Mesh networks using WLAN technology have been paid attention as a key wireless access technology. However, many technical issues still exist for its successful deployment. One of those issues is the routing problem that addresses the path setup through a WLAN mesh network for the data exchanges between a station and a wired network. Since the characteristics of a WLAN mesh network can be very dynamic, the use of single routing protocol would not fit for all environments whether it is reactive or proactive. Therefore, it is required to develop an adaptive routing protocol that modifies itself according to the changes in the network parameters. As a logical first step for the development, an analytical model considering all the dynamic features of a WLAN mesh network is required to evaluate the performance of a reactive and a proactive routing scheme. In this paper, we propose an analytical model that makes us scrutinize the impact of the network and station parameters on the performance of each routing protocol. Our model includes the size of a mesh network, the density of stations, mobility of stations. and the duration of network topology change. We applied our model to the AODV that is a representative reactive routing protocol and DSDV that is a representative proactive routing protocol to analyze the tradeoff between AODV and DSDV in dynamic network environments. Our model is expected to help developing an adaptive routing protocol for a WLAN mesh network.

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are emerging as promising, convenient next generation wireless network technology. There is a great need for a secure framework for routing in WMNs and several research studies have proposed secure versions of the default routing protocol of WMNs. In this paper, we propose a security framework for Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol (HWMP) in WMNs. Contrary to existing schemes, our proposed framework ensures both end-to-end and point-to-point authentication and integrity to both mutable and non-mutable fields of routing frames by adding message extension fields to the HWMP path selection frame elements. Security analysis and simulation results show that the proposed approach performs significantly well in spite of the cryptographic computations involved in routing.
The Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a multi-hop wireless network consisting of mesh routers and clients, where the mesh routers have minimal mobility and form the backbone. The WMN is primarily designed to access outer network to mesh clients through backhaul gateways. As traffic converges on the gateways, traffic hotspots are likely to form in the neighborhood of the gateways. In this paper, we propose Congestion Aware Multi-path Routing (CAMR) protocol to tackle this problem. Upon congestion, CAMR divides the clients under a mesh STA into two groups and returns a different path for each group. The CAMR protocol triggers multi-path routing in such a manner that the packet reordering problem is avoided. Through simulations, we show that CAMR improves the performance of the WMN in terms of throughput, delay and packet drop ratio.
The Internet of Things (IoT) enables embedded devices to connect to the internet either through IP or the web in a physical environment. The increase in performance of wireless access services, adaptive load balancing, and interference routing metric becomes the key challenges in Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). However, in the case of IoT over WMN, a large number of users generate abundant net flows, which can result in network traffic jam. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a Load Balancing and Interference Delay Aware routing metric algorithm to efficiently address the issues present in the current work. The proposed scheme efficiently utilizes the available mesh station queue information and the number of mesh stations suffering from channel interference in the available path. The simulations results show that the proposed scheme performed superior to the existing routing metrics present in the current literature for similar purposes.
In this paper, we propose a QoS routing protocol for WiMAX based wireless mesh networks. The proposed routing protocol is a proactive hop-by-hop QoS routing protocol. It can find an optimal route that satisfies QoS requirements using bandwidth and delay as QoS parameters. In this paper, we first present a network model for WIMAX based wireless mesh networks and explain why QoS routing protocol is the most appropriate for WiMAX based wireless mesh networks. Then, we propose a proactive hop-by-hop QoS routing protocol that meets QoS requirements of traffic flowing between mesh client and the gateway. The simulation results show that the proposed routing protocol outperforms QOLSR protocol in terms of end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio and routing overhead.
We study the problem of controlling data overhead of mesh-based multicast ad hoc routing protocols by adaptively adding redundancy to the minimal data overhead multicast mesh as required by the network conditions. We show that the computation of the minimal data overhead multicast mesh is NP-complete, and we propose an heuristic approximation algorithm inspired on epidemic algorithms. In addition, we propose a mobility-aware and adaptive mesh construction algorithm based on a probabilistic path selection being able to adapt the reliability of the multicast mesh to the mobility of the network. Our simulation results show that the proposed approach, when implemented into ODMRP, is able to offer similar performance results and a lower average latency while reducing data overhead between 25 to 50% compared to the original ODMRP.

In this paper, we study a novel routing algorithm based on load balancing for multi-channel wireless mesh networks. In order to increase the network capacity and reduce the interference of transmission streams and the communication delay, on the basis of weighted cumulative expected transmission time (WCETT) routing metric this paper proposes an improved routing metric based on load balancing and channel interference (LBI_WCETT), which considers the channel interference, channel diversity, link load and the latency brought by channel switching. Meanwhile, in order to utilize the multi-channel strategy efficiently in wireless mesh networks, a new channel allocation algorithm is proposed. This channel allocation algorithm utilizes the conflict graph model and considers the initial link load estimation and the potential interference of the link to assign a channel for each link in the wireless mesh network. It also utilizes the channel utilization percentage of the virtual link in its interference range as the channel selection standard. Simulation results show that the LBI_WCETT routing metric can help increase the network capacity effectively, reduce the average end to end delay, and improve the network performance.

In this paper, we propose more efficient implementation architecture for realizing combination of heterogeneous routing protocols in wireless mesh routes. For realizing heterogeneous routing protocol in wireless mesh router, the following should be considered; which position in OS platform protocols should be implemented, how to define the common API for multiple routing protocols, how to provide architecture for providing high data transfer throughput and for supporting multi platform, and finally how to verify the throughput of protocol by using simulator. For solving those consideration, we propose HRPC(Heterogeneous Routing Protocol Coordinator) and describe the method for testing the protocols.
