  • Presented in the paper is a procedure to reconstruct a triangular mesh from a point cloud. Although, the proposed procedure is based on the well-known Voronoi diagram approach, it introduces a selection method of 'Pole' to improve the quality of resulting mesh. To select the appropriate Poles for high quality of Triangular mesh, the patterns that the Poles affect to the mesh quality are carefully analyzed. It is possible to improve the mesh quality by controlling the selection method of 'Pole' in terms of distance limit. The initial mesh obtained by the proposed procedure may include invalid triangles. To relieve this problem, a slicing method is proposed to remove invalid triangles from the initial mesh. At last, correcting technique of normal vectors of generated mesh is introduced.

  • In the rigid-plastic finite element simulation of hot forging processes using hexahedral mesh, remeshing of a flash is important for design and control of the process to obtain desirable defect-free products. The mesh compression method is a remeshing technique which enables the construction of an effective hexahedral mesh in the flash. However, because the mesh is distorted during the compression procedure of the mesh compression method, when it is used in resuming the analysis, it causes discretization error and decreases the conversance rate. Therefore, mesh smoothing is necessary to improve the mesh quality. In this study, several geometric mesh smoothing techniques and optimization techniques are introduced and modified to improve mesh quality. Then, the most adaptive technique is recommended for the mesh compression method.

  • A systematic approach to tetrahedral element or mesh generation, based on an advancing-front method and an optimal triangular mesh generation technique on the surface, is presented in this paper. The possible internal nodes are obtained by the octree-decomposition scheme. The initial tetrahedral mesh system is constructed by the advancing-front method and then it is improved by the quality improvement processes including mesh swapping and nodal smoothing. The approach is evaluated by investigating the normalized length, the normalized volume, the dihedral angle and the normalized quality

  • To obtain more accurate result in the finite element analysis for electric machinery, it is important to have a mesh being of good quality. This paper describes a new technique of mesh generation for the finite element method. When the list of points defining the region of analysis is given, an appropriate distribution of interior points is generated first. Secondly the points are connected to from the trianlges. Finally the connectivity data are used to reposition the interior points using Laplacian smoothing and mesh relaxation technique. In this paper, a mesh searching technique of Lawson which modifies the start mesh is proposed in addition to the above three steps. This algorithm is simple and produces the meshes being of good quality with high speed in comparison with the existing one.

  • The most important criterion for achieving the maximum performance in a wireless mesh network (WMN) is to limit the interference within the network. For this purpose, especially in a multi-radio network, the best option is to use non-overlapping channels among different radios within the same interference range. Previous works that have considered non-overlapping channels in IEEE 802.11a as the basis for performance optimization, have considered the link quality across all channels to be uniform. In this paper, we present a measurement-based study of link quality across all channels in an IEEE 802.11a-based indoor WMN test bed. Our results show that the generalized assumption of uniform performance across all channels does not hold good in practice for an indoor environment and signal quality depends on the geometry around the mesh routers.

  • Wireless mesh networks enlarge the wireless coverage area by interconnecting relatively stationary wireless routers (mesh routers). As wireless mesh networks are envisioned to provide high-bandwidth broadband Internet service to a large community of users, the Internet gateway, which acts as a central point of Internet attachment for the mesh networks, is likely to suffer heavily from the scramble for shared wireless resources because of aggregated traffic toward the Internet. It causes performance decrement on end-to-end transmissions. We propose a scheme to balance the load in a mesh network based on link quality variation to different Internet gateways. Moreover, under the mesh coverage, mobile nodes can move around and connect to nearby mesh routers while still keeping the connections to the Internet through the best gateway in terms of link quality. In this structure, gateways perform the balancing procedure through wired links. Information about gateways and mobile node's location is distributed appropriately so that every mesh router can quickly recognize the best gateway as well as the positions of mobile nodes. This distributed information assists mobile nodes to perform fast handoff. Significant benefits are shown by the performance analysis.

  • Screen printing is a printing method with flexible plate surface characteristics. In addition, since the appearance of electronics industry the screen printing has been demanding high quality and definition. However, Screen printing is a method for taking ink through mesh opening because screen mesh tends to restrict quality of screen printing. In particular, the biggest problem compared with other printing type is halftone reproduction characteristics. Halftone reproduction characteristics for screen printing depend on screen mesh and opening. Dot losses or dot gains are observed through various types of screen mesh because thread of screen mesh interfere with the movement of the ink. Excessive dot losses or gains can affect the tonal range. Furthermore, this problem can result in other problem such as bad contrast and gray balance. Therefore, it is an important factor to use proper screen mesh for halftone screen printing. However, domestic screen printing industry relies on worker's experience in field rather than depending on objective data although standardized specifications and optimal printing conditions are required for screen printing. For this reason, it is important to stipulate standard condition for domestic screen printing industry. Therefore, it was examined to find tonal range by mesh opening in halftone prints process of screen printing used domestic paper and ink in this study. In addition, TVI(Tone Value Increase) characteristic was observed by comparing to the manuscripts and prints of the dot area ratio. Furthermore, contrast value and gray balance were confirmed for each condition of the printout. Conditions for the proper selection of screen mesh screen for the quality of the prints were also examined, compared with the international standard of screen printing, ISO 12647-5.

  • In this study, a remeshing algorithm adapted to the mesh density map using the Delaunay mesh generation method is developed. In the finite element simulation of forging process, the numerical error increases as the process goes on because of discrete property of the finite elements and distortion of elements. Especially, in the region where stresses and strains are concentrated, the numerical error will be highly increased. However, it is not desirable to use a uniformly fine mesh in the whole domain. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the analysis error by constructing locally refined mesh at the region where the error is concentrated such as at the die corner. In this paper, the point insertion algorithm is used and the mesh size is controlled by using a mesh density map constructed with a posteriori error estimation. An optimized smoothing technique is adopted to have smooth distribution of the mesh and improve the mesh element quality.

  • In this paper, we propose a new triangular finite element mesh generation method based on simplification of high-density mesh and adaptive Level-of-Detail (LOD) methods for efficient CAE. In our method, mesh simplification is used to control the mesh properties required for FE mesh, such as the number of triangular elements, element shape quality and size while keeping the specified approximation tolerance. Adaptive LOD methods based on vertex hierarchy according to curvature and region of interest, and global LOD method preserving density distributions are also proposed in order to construct a mesh more appropriate for CAE purpose. These methods enable efficient generation of FE meshes with properties appropriate for analysis purpose from a high-density mesh. Finally, the effectiveness of our approach is shown through evaluations of the FE meshes for practical use.
