Objectives : The objective of this study was to examine the acupoint location of Kyoshin (KI8) from classic literatures. Methods : A review of KI8 location along the meridian route from 18 classics of acupuncture and moxibustion - 『Huangdineijing·Lingshu』, 『Huangdimingtangjingjixiao』, 『Zhenjiujiayijing』, 『Huangdineijingtaisu』, 『Huangdimingtangjiujing』, 『Beijiqianjinyaofang』, 『Waitaimiyaofang』, 『Ishimpo』, 『Taipingshenghuifang』, 『Tongrenshuxuezhenjiutujing』, 『Shengjizonglu』, 『Zhenjiuzishengjing』, 『Shisijingfahui』, 『Shenyingjing』, 『Zhenjiujuying』, 『Yixuerumen』, 『Zhenjiudacheng』, and 『Yizongjinjian』 - was performed. Then, KI7 location on classics and current standard KI8 location were compared. Results : Based on modern standard acupoint location system, the acupoint of KI8 is located on the medial aspect of the leg, in the depression posterior to the medial border of the tibia and it is on the route of spleen meridian. But no classics of acupuncture and moxibustion said KI8 was located on the route of spleen meridian. In addition, KI8 location on classics was largely described as being located in front of KI7, but only in 『Yizongjinjian』 was it written that KI8 was located posterior to KI7. Conclusions : Through a classic literature review, it is possible to explain that KI8 is located posterior to spleen meridian. The acupoint of KI8 seems to be located between medial border of flexor pollicis longus and flexor digitorum longus based on anatomical location.

Objectives : Mitochondria are typically known as intracellular double membrane-bound structures that supply energy for intracellular metabolism including Krebs cycle and beta-oxidation. Also, acupuncture has been known to stimulate the flow of energy. To explore the effect of acupuncture on the mitochondrial respiratory chain activities in rat's heart and kidneys, the activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes I to IV were observed. Methods : The rats were divided into 11 groups; Normal (no acupuncture treatment and under anesthesia for 10 min), heart meridian five-transport-points (acupuncture treatment at HT9, HT8, HT7, HT4 and HT3 under anesthesia for 10 min), and kidney meridian five-transport-points (acupuncture treatment at KI1, KI2, KI3, KI7 and KI10 under anesthesia for 10 min). All rats were sacrificed and the heart and kidneys were examined for the changes of respiratory chain activities. Results : Acupuncture at HT7 increased the activity of succinate dehydrogenase; acupuncture at KI2 increased the activity of ubiquinol cytochrome C oxidoreductase; and acupuncture at HT9, HT8, HT3 and KI1 increased activities of cytochrome C oxidase. Conclusions : Acupuncture assists mitochondrial repiratory chain activity via the Cytochrome C oxidase signaling pathway in heart and kidney of rats.

This study reviews and suggests the followings: 1) The balance and harmony between water and fire (ki and blood, yin and yang) is regarded as the basic condition of maintaining health in Oriental medicine. 2) Oriental medicine defines disease as the imbalance or disharmony of body. So the discordance between water and fire is in ill state, the coordination between water and fire is in healthy state. 3) Etiological factors and pathology are summarized by the conflict between vital ki and pathogenic factors, six exogenous factors, internal injury by seven emotions and the imbalance between yin and yang. 4) The regulation of meridian ki recovers the balance between water and fire, ki and blood using acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping therapy, herbal medicine and physical and breathing exercise and massage which is based on the principle of controlling ki and spirit.

$\ll$靈樞 動輸$\gg$ explains the way that the Arm Greater um Lung meridian, the Leg lesser urn kidney meridian and the Leg Yang-Myong Stomach meridian are keeping incessant pulsation, and the relation that these three meridians transport ant irrigate around the whole body. And also, when the meridian lines have been obstructed, the ki travels via shortcuts, in the course of spreading outer ki and inner ki around the whole body. Concretely speaking, in the first mapter it is explained the way that the Arm Greater urn Lung meridian pulses incessantly, in the second chapter, it is explained the way that the Leg Yang-Myong stomach meridian pulses incessantly, in the third chapter, the Leg Lesser urn kidney meridian pulses incessantly and in the fourth chapter, the movement of inner and outer ki are explained. But this chapter has many ancient letters and many parts omitted, so it is too hard to understand directly. Therefore we set to work with the view of helping to understand the original text more accurately by the reference of several editions and many commentarists' fruitful researches.

Objectives : This study was designed to investigate the effect of thermal change on face, acupuncturing Yon-gok (KI2). The room temperature adjust $26^{\circ}C$ making use of air-conditioner. Methods : A Clinical study was done on 20 males and females who didn't have any disease. We used IR-5000 to observe the effects of acupuncture at face temperature. Results : Acupuncturing Yon-gok(KI2), the special region on face falls the temperature (n=20) from Avg.=$28.1400{\pm}0.2603^{\circ}C$ to Avg.=$27.4910{\pm}0.2539^{\circ}C$ the special region on chest falls the temperature (n=20) from Avg.=$26.9450{\pm}0.2591^{\circ}C$ to Avg.=$26.8690{\pm}0.2519^{\circ}C$ These effects result at the stimulating 'Hwa' point, one of five-shu-point one in the meridian, Yon-gok (KI2) is one of 'Hwa'. the stimulating 'Hwa' is able to cure fever, headache, and pains. and it has ablility of controlling body temperature, specially, upper region of whole human body. Conclusions : In conclusion. Acupuncturing Yon-gok (KI2) falls the temperature of region on face, Compared with the temperature of region on chest.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to widen a clinical use by investigating literatures about the acupoint of Pu-ryu(KI7) and Um-gok(KI10) concerning Kidney-Eum(vital essence of the kidney) and Kidney-Yang(vital function of the kidney). Methods: We investigated the first literature about $Pu-ryu(KI7)\;{\cdot}\;Um-gok(KI10)$ and a second name, a location and a characteristic of them. We made a comparative study about the chief virtue and combination of $Pu-ryu(KI7)\;{\cdot}\;Um-gok(KI10)$. Results: Pu-ryu(KI7) is the 7th acupoint of Kidney Meridian of Foot Soeum(少陰), which reinforces a meridian of belonging and has the efficacy of warming the Kidney Yang, clearing heat, excreting dump and regulating water passage. Um-gok(KI10) is the 10th acupoint of Kidney Meridian of Foot Soeum(少陰), which has the virtue of nurishing the Liver and Kidney Eum, promoting lower heater and marinating the free flow of Gi Conclusions: The chief virtue of Pu-ryu(KI7) is to remove edema due to disturbance in Gi activity by dificiency of Kidney-Yang because of warming Yang to induce diuresis. To Um-gok(KI10), it is to treat instability of Kidney-Gi by Eum dificiency of the Liver and Kidney because of nurishing the Liver and Kidney Eum.

Objectives : The acupuncture about acupoint affects the production of NO, NOS, and NE.Local action of acupuncture is important for acupuncture treatment. To prove this, the revelation degree of NO, NOS, and NE was observed by stimulating the acupuncture at the connecting point of SP4, KI4, and LR5 in the depths of Superficial layer, Middle layer and Deep layer. Methods : Needles were inserted into rats, on each right and left sides of the connecting point, SP4, KI4 and LR5 acupoints which are the stream points of the foot meridian. After insertion, needles were retained for three minutes. After the retention, rat was sacrificed via cardiac puncture, and tissues of each SP4, KI4 and LR5 point near meridian vessel was extracted to examine the changes in the expression of NO, NOS and NE. Results : In terms of the effect in NO production, there was significant increase in the Superficial layer, Middle layer and Deep layer at KI4. In terms of the effect in NE production, there was significant decrease in the Superficial layer at SP4 and increase in the Superficial layer, Middle layer and Deep layer at LR5. In terms of the effect in nNOS production, there was significant increase in the Superficial layer, Middle layer and Deep layer at SP4 also in the Superficial layer at KI4. In terms of the effect in eNOS production, there was a significant increase in the Superficial layer, Middle layer and Deep layer at SP4, KI4 and LR5. In terms of the effect in iNOS production, there was significant increase in the Superficial layer, Middle layer and Deep layer at SP4, KI4 and LR5. Conclusions : The effect of acupuncture applied at the connecting point of six meridians of the foot on the activities of NO, NOS and NE could be observed, and it can be induced from the effect of needle stimulation on disrupted local and systemic nervous responses.

Objective : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Plantaginis Semen herbal-acupuncture (PS-HA) at KI10 (Umgok) on nephritis induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in rat. Methods : The authors performed several experimental items including measurements of urinary volume, WBC in blood, BUN, creatine, TNF-$\alpha$, CINC-1 in serum, creatinine, total protein in urine, TNF-$\alpha$, MPO in kidney and histological analysis of renal tissue. Results : PS-HA at KI10 significantly reduced WBC in blood, BUN, TNF-$\alpha$ in serum of LPS-stimulated rats. PS-HA at KI10 significantly increased urinary volume in LPS-stimulated rats. And PS-HA at KI10 significantly reduced MPO in kidney of LPS-stimulated rats. Conclusion : Taken together, PS-HA at KI10 has a therapeutic effect on nephritis in LPS-stimulated rat. Therefore, it is suggested that PS-HA at KI10 may be an useful therapeutics for nephritis in clinical field.

In this thesis, we discuss on three theories about abdominal line of Penetration Meridian[衝脈] and focused on the text of several related chapters of "Naegyeong(內經)". Therefore, we can get the conclusion as follows. Penetration Meridian[衝脈] is the same root of the Foot Soeum Meridian[定少陰經; KI, Kidney Meridian] and its circulation course is also at one with the Foot Soeum Meridian[足少陰經]. "Naegyeong" presents two kinds of channel of Penetration Meridian at the trunk portion-abdominal and dorsal channels. And their inter-relationship would be described as relationship between the roots[本] and the manifestation[標] or meridian[line] and acupoint[point].

Objective & Methods : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Cistanches Herba herbal-acupuncture (CH-HA) at KI10 (Umgok) on osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy in mice. The results were as follows; Results : CH-HA at KI10 significantly inhibited the overgrowth of tibia, the elevation of serum osteocalcin level, the reduction of tibial Ca and P level, the increase of tibial osteoclast like cells, the reduction of tibial TBV (trabecular bone volume), the overgrowth of tibial GPL (growth plate length) in ovariectomized mice. NP at KI10 significantly inhibited the reduction of BMD (bone mineral density) in ovariectomized mice, but CH-HA did not. Conclusion : Taken together, CH-HA at KI10 has a protective or therapeutic effect for osteoporosis in ovariectomized mice. Therefore, it is suggested that CH-HA may be an useful therapeutics in clinical filed after further researches.
