  • This paper presented time dependent high-pressure arc discharge model considering the axial convection and verified the pertinence with application to the high pressure mercury lamp. Using this model, this paper xmaminse the effect of the axial convection and arc contraction of lower electrode region. This model consisted with the results of experiments in few [%] error, and showed the arc contraction of lower electrode region.

고압방전램프의 음향공명감소를 위한 주파수변조에 관한 연구 (A Study on Frequency-Modulated Methods for Reducing Acoustic Resonance in HID Lamp)

  • HID(high intensity discharge)lamps are high pressure mercury lamp, high pressure sodium lamp and metalhalide lamp. metalhalide lamp among these lamps has considered to be one of the most effective artificial light sources and this lamp has good efficiency, good color rendition and good focusing capability, But the shortcorning of metalhalide lamp is known as acoustic resonance phenomena in the discharge tube when lighted by electronic ballast and then acoustic resonance cause various problems such as the arc instability, light output fluctuations. In this paper, to reduce the acoustic resonence phenomena, the electronic ballast was designed by three methods for high frequency operation wish frequency-modulated sinusodial waves in acoustic resonance frequency band. These frequency-modulated methods are resonance frequency and resonance frequency, resonance frequency and non-resonance frequency non-resonance frequency and non-resonance frequency Experiment results could't show the Presence of acoustic resonance visually and it proved that the resonance-generating conditions can be avoided by continuously changing the two operating frequencies in acoustic resonance band (20.59kHz∼94.2kHz).

도파된 UV 빛에 의한 광섬유 단면의 폴리머 팁 제작 (Fabrication of polymer tip on an optical fiber end-face by guided UV light)

  • We have fabricated a down tapered polymer tip on optical fiber end-face by a guided UV light. One side of fiber was aligned with a mercury-xenon lamp and another was put into UV curable polymer. A shape of tip was controlled by adjusting an irradiance of lamp and time of exposure. A bending effect also affects the result. Optical characteristic was achieved preliminarily with solution of minute particles.

  • The electrooptic characteristics of 32-inch multichannel-structured, mercury-type flat fluorescent lamps have been investigated in detail. The luminance and the lamp current/voltage have been monitored by changing the driving conditions such as duty ratio, backlight conditions. It was found that the efficiency became the maximum at the duty ratio of 50 % with a nearby metal plate.

육상용 LED 램프의 선박 적응력에 관한 연구 (A study on the accommodation of common LED to shipboard)

  • Common LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamp has many advantages to compare with fluorescent lamp, long life and no pollution matter like the mercury. The LED lamp is a good light source especially for shipboard lighting because of its compact structure which prevents explosion and shock. Also, low maintenance cost is expected due to its longer life time in comparison with conventional lamps. The LED lamp, however, need some estimates that change of voltage and frequency, vibration, moisture on board to definite accommodation of the LED lamp to shipboard. The purpose of this study is to compare physical properties of a fluorescent lamp with one of the common LED lamp so as to analyze accommodation of common LED lamp on board. This study was carried out in two stages. First, temperature, humidity of illumination, voltage, electric current, frequency and electric power were measured by using experimental equipments. Second, a comparative analysis of consumption electric power, annual oil charge, annual CO2 emission and lamp life time, etc of the fluorescent lamp and common LED one was made. As a result of the study, the consumption electric power of fluorescent lamp was 50% higher than one of the common LED lamp. As a result of measuring life time, it was found that life time of common LED lamp was more about 3.5 fold than one of the fluorescent lamp. Considering these results, it's thought that common LED lamp is verified that energy saving is possible and using is possible as substitute for fluorescent lamp on board.

프리볼트입력용 메탈핼라이드램프 전자식안정기 개발 (Development of Electronic Ballast for Metal Halide Lamp wilts Free Voltage Input)

  • 고압방전램프에는 고압수은램프, 고압나트륨램프와 메탈핼라이프램프가 있다. 메탈핼라이드램프는 가장 효율 좋을 램프들 중 하나이며 고효율, 고연색성과 집광능력이 좋다. 이 연구의 목적은 AC 100∼277의 프리볼트입력용 전자식안정기를 개발하여 메탈핼라이드(MH70W)를 점등시키는 것이다. 개발된 전자식안정기는 프리볼트입력용컨버터, 플라이백컨버터와 하프브리지인버터, 이그나이터와 보호기 그리고 제어기로 구성되어 있다. 실험 결과 개발된 전자식안정기는 프리볼트입력(AC 100∼277V)에 따라 메탈핼라이드램프(MH70W)가 매우 잘 점등되었다.

  • The problem of lamp life have being solved before electrode-less lamps were developed. But, mercury is using till now. So people are concerned about friendly-environmental lamp, and many researcher hardly study it. In this paper, an ICP lamp which is using Xe gas and Ne gas was designed after optical properties were measured and analyzed. As a result, H-mode properties and penning effect properties were known. Also xenon and neon of properties analyze by spectrum.

저압 방전등 교류 접등 특성의 이론적 예측 (Theoretical Prediction of AC Characteristics of Low Pressure Lamps)

  • In order to develop a mathematical model which can predict the operating voltage and current of a discharge lamp, the properties and the physical phenomena of a low pressure gas discharge are investigated. Fluorescent lamp which uses a low pressure mercury-argon gas discharge is used in the model development. In a low pressure mercur-argon gas discharge, the continuity equation for each excited atom and electron, and the electron energy balance equation can predict the physical quantities of discharge. By coupling these equations and the circuit equation, the electrical characteristics of the discharge lamp can be predicted. To verify the validity of the suggested model, we calculated the voltage and current of a fluorescent lamp operating with inductor ballast for source frequency of 5KHz, 8KHz, 10KHz, and 13KHz. The results show good agreements in wave forms between the measured voltage and current, and the difference between the measured and calculated one is less than 5%.

Xe EEFL의 혼합가스에 따른 전기 광학적 특성 (Electrical and Optical properties of Xe EEFL by mixed gas)

  • TFT-LCD used in display area is not a light-emissive device itself but TFT-LCD can overcome through the employ of the backlight unit (BLU). BLU is very important device in TFT-LCD system. However, the old-fashion BLU of CCFL type is crucible to the health due to the contained material, mercury (Hg). Moreover, strong temperature dependency of lamp employed with Hg becomes the other disadvantage in practical usage. To solve these problems, Hg-Free lamp with strong thermal resistance property is required to displace the Hg lamp. We studied optical and electrical properties of Xe-Ne-He mixed gas that is dependent on change of mixed ratio and pressure. In our results, the designed lamp without the phosphorescent material has the lowest firing voltage at xe 50%(Ne:He=9:1).
