  • Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by the core symptom of chronic widespread pain, along with fatigue, sleep disturbances, mood changes, and cognitive difficulties. The etiology of fibromyalgia involves a combination of biological factors, such as genetic vulnerability, alterations in pain processing and stress response system ; psychological factors, such as anxiety, depression, anger, and perceived stress ; environmental factors, such as infections, febrile diseases, and trauma. Central sensitization, which is amplified in the process of sensory stimulation, has been emphasized as a key etiological factor, as supported by enhanced wind-up, delayed aftersensation, decreased nociceptive flexion reflex threshold and functional imaging studies. Several guidelines recommend that a multimodal approach be used to treat fibromyalgia, including both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, tailored to each individual, and that clinicians should provide an intellectual framework through sufficient education and emphasis on the importance of self-management. The prevalence of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and other psychiatric problems is 7-9 times higher in patients with fibromyalgia than in the general population ; moreover, the association between fibromyalgia and certain psychopathologies or sleep problems has also been suggested. Since psychiatric problems, with shared vulnerabilities and risk factors, interact with fibromyalgia bidirectionally and also affect the disease course, an integrated management approach is needed to determine the risk of comorbidities.

The data analysis was done by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and path analysis. The results were as follows. First, the path model was accepted. Second, the direct path of action planning to physical activity was significant. Third, the direct path of both action planning and physical activity to depression were significant. Fourth, the effect size of action planning to depression was more than that of physical activity. Fifth, the indirect path of action planning to depression through physical activity was significant. On the basis of these results, this suggests a need to add action planning on national physical activity plan, establish the delivery system for physical activity program with action planning in mental health center in community, and applicate narrative approach skills for qualitative improvement of action planning.

  • Objective : This study aimed to investigate the effect of community-based Goal-Achieving program in geriatric depressive symptoms preliminarily. Methods : We obtained data from elderly Korean subjects with major depressive disorder (n=51) aged 60 years or older at baseline, taking case management from community mental health center. Subjects were randomly assigned to intervention group (n=24) and control group (n=27). We investigated depressive symptoms through Short Form Geriatric Depression Scale-Korean version (SGDS-K) at baseline and every month for 3 months to all subjects. We tested interaction between group and time in SGDS-K score to evaluate the effect of program. And post hoc test examined between group differences of SGDS-K at each time points. Results : In quadratic linear mixed effects model analysis, interaction between group and time was statistically significant (Total SGDS-K score : coefficient=0.29, p<0.001 ; SGDS-K dysphoria subscale : 0.18, p<0.001 ; SGDS-K hopelessness subscale : 0.05, p=0.089 ; SGDS-K cognitive impairment subscale : 0.06, p=0.003). And significant between group difference was shown in post hoc test at time points of third month (SGDS-K score of control group : SGDS-K score of intervention group=$10.74{\pm}3.482$ : $7.25{\pm}4.475$, p=0.0184). Conclusion : These results may suggest that 'Community-based the Goal-Achieving program' has efficacy in reducing geriatric depressive symptoms.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of life in near-poor elderly living alone and experiencing depression. We focused on their lived experiences so that we could understand the essential structure of what kind of life they live. The eligible population included those aged 65 or older, showing 9 points or higher in the Korean form of Geriatric Depression Scale (KGDS), currently living alone for more than 1 year, having no problems of communication difficulties, and nationally defined as a near-poor group. A purposive sample of 8 seniors enrolled in s mental health welfare center in Incheon Metropolitan City were recruited. The phenomenological approach suggested by Colaizzi was used. Data was collected from May 2018 to October 2019 through in-depth interviews. As a result of the study, 6 categories, including 48 themes and 19 theme clusters, were drawn from the data: 'a shabby life that cannot live without help', 'a life where the body and mind are sick', 'a life that wants to be self-reliant', 'a life of gratitude', 'a life with inner peace', and 'a life that needed institutional support.' Findings of this study can be evidence for developing suitable emotional support programs for the near-poor elderly living alone and to enact various welfare laws and policies at the national level.

  • This paper tried to investigate the moderating effect of chemyon sensitivity and usage situation in the relationship between self-presentation and brand preference. Data were collected from students of universities located in Chungnam. The analysis results can be summarized as follows. First of all, the effect of self-presentation on symbolic brand preference was not significant in both public and private use situations. On the other hand, the effect of self-presentation on functional brand preference was found to be significant in both situations. Second, the main effect of chemyon sensitivity was significant only when it had a negative effect on functional brand preference in public situations, but was not significant in other cases. Third, looking at the interaction effect of self-presentation and chemyon sensitivity, the brand preference did not show significant changes in those with relatively low chemyon sensitivity, regardless of the level of self-presentation, whether in public or private situations. This study is meaningful in that it reveals that chemyon sensitivity affects brand preference through interaction with self-presentation, whether the consumption situation is public or private.

The subjects of the study are 473 adults gamblers who responded to a online survey about gambling patterns, basic psychological needs(BPNs), and mental health status(MHS) such as stress, depression, and anxiety. Using latent profile analysis known as the person-centered analysis, the results showed that psychological characteristics of gamblers were classified into three groups: 'Lower MHS-BPNs', 'Middle MHS-BPNs', and 'Upper MHS-BPNs'. Also, the as outcome variable, levels of problematic gambling(KCPGI) showed significant differences across the latent profiles such as Problem gambling(M=11.393) on 'Lower MHS-BPNs', Moderate-risk gambling(M=4.277) on 'Middle MHS-BPNs' and Low-risk gambling (M=1.718) on 'Upper MHS-BPNs'. Overcoming the limitations of variable-centered analysis in the existing studies, this study providesreveals new insights onin the psychological characteristics of gamblers and how different latent profiles of gamblers may be in theirdistinct levels of problematic gambling. Finally, limitations of the study and future directions for research on gambling problems are discussed.
