  • This study investigates the criteria for assessing the vibration serviceability of highway bridges using advanced driving simulator. Reiher-Meister Curves were firstly reviewed for extended application to serviceability of highway bridges. Modified Reiher-Meister Curves were provided in this paper based on field test results and numerical analyses results. The Modified Reiher-Meister Curves were evaluated using advanced driving simulator. The new curve consisted of 4 level, A(Disturbing), B(Strongly perceptible), C(Allowable), and D(Comfortable). The new criteria will be extensively applied to design and maintain highway bridges with respect to driver condition.

  • This study intends to analytically evaluate the vibration serviceability of the bridges for each long-span type having the same span length and road width using the Meister vibration sensation curve. With MIDAS, a structural analysis program, bridges were modeled using the girders as the frame element and slabs as the plate element. The transient analysis was performed using the moving loads of the design vehicles. This study presents the analytical process of reviewing the vibration serviceability during the design of long-span bridges. It involves the comparison of the vibration serviceability of different bridge types by applying the lagging-behind and acceleration amplitude from transient analysis to Meister curve. The result confirms that the process is appropriate.

  • In order to evaluate vibration serviceability by means of non-contact vibration meter, serviceability of existing bridge were experimentally evaluated by using laser vibration meter. Test results were analyzed and compared with evaluation results acquired by using accelerometer and LVDT. To testify accuracy of laser vibration meter measured natural frequency were compared with that acquired by using accelerometer. According to test and comparison results it is showed that serviceability can be evaluated properly enough from the tolerance curve of Reiher-Meister for the estimated acceleration that can be calculated by the numerical differentiation of measured velocity. But because of cumulative numerical error occurred during integration of measured velocity in the time domain serviceability grade could be different from the result acquired by LVDT.

  • This study proposes a wireless measurement system that is a new safety management system by using an FBG sensor and a PDA. The sensor part has many advantages of implementing a wireless measurement system, and the study emploies an FBG-LVDT sensor, FBG-STRAIN sensor, FBG-TEMP sensor, and FBG-ACC sensor, using FBG sensors. Also, the study show a configuration of a signal process system for operating a wireless transmission system of FBG sensors applied to the signal process system, and engrafted the cutting edge information technology industry in order to display from a remote distance using a PDA. In order to verify the applicability of the developed FBG sensors and wireless measurement monitoring system to the field, their accuracy, and usability, the study has conducted a static and dynamic test to a bridge in the field. The study made an assessment of service for the vibration of the bridge by applying dynamic data measured by an FBG-LVDT sensor and FBG-ACC sensor to Meister's curve and prepared methods for assessing the vibration of the bridge by proposing a standard of vibration limitation given the service of vibration of the bridge. As a follow up for this study, it would be necessary to set up an overall model for the standard of service assessment established in this study.
