Method : We studied 72 research papers relevant to Ophthalmology that published in JKOOD from 1988 to 2013. All the paper were classified into three categories; original article, review article and case report. We also analyzed the articles according to the sort of diseases. We sub-classified the original articles into three categories descriptive study, analytic study and experimental study. We analyzed the case report according to various types of treatment. Result : 1. The number of searched journals is 72 papers; 21 review articles, 18 original articles, 33 case reports 2. Classification of 18 original articles into three categories; 12 descriptive studies, 0 analytic study, 6 experimental studies. 3. Distribution of diseases in ophthalmology; the percentage of 'strabismus' ranked the highest(25%) in case report. 4. Method of Evaluation in retina disease ; the percentage of fundus photography ranked the highest(50%) Conclusions : It is needed to develop the methods of study in part of eye disease. • The purpose of this study was to integrate the therapeutic effects of Oriental medicine for stroke in clinical research published in Korea from 1991 to 2000. In the preliminary study, clinical studies on Oriental medical therapy for stroke in Korea were collected. Since it was inadequate to integrate the results of the papers, qualitative meta-analysis was conducted on them. In age distribution of occurrence, the most frequent age was sixties followed by seventies, fifties, forties, and thirties. Sample size was minimum 42 persons, maximum 473 persons. Papers including single therapy were noted in 50.1 %. Among those, herbal medicine was noted in 30%, while acupuncture, physical treatment, and moxibustion was noted in 6.7%. Including more than two therapies were noted in 49.1 %, Among those, herbal medicine was noted in 80%, acupuncture in 20%, physical treatment in 13%, western and oriental medicine in 30%. Papers including control group were noted in 13% and description of scale for the evaluation of treatment effect was 80%. Papers including objectification of scales for the evaluation of therapeutic effects were noted in 26.7% and described follow-up period were noted in 13%. Papers including statistical analysis were noted in 26.7% and calculated p-value was noted in. 13.3%. Papers including design of longitudinal study were noted in 86.7%. Case-control studies were noted in 13.3%. Randomization and blinding were noted in each 0%. These results suggest that followings are required for the improvement of quality of clinical research in Oriental medicine; obvious description of treatment method, objectification of scales for the evaluation of therapeutic effects, adequate research design, randomization and blinding.

  • To establish the fundament for EBM of Traditional Korean Medicine, the papers on Sagunja-tang(Sijunzi-tang) frequently used in medical institutions of Traditional Korean Medicine were analyzed through researching domestic and international papers. The papers were classified by the registration of domestic or international journals, the year of publishment, experimental fields and the kinds of studies on biological activities. Of total 228 papers on Sagunja-tang(Sijunzi-tang), 121 volumes were selected according to creteria. 47 volumes were published in domestic journals, 71 in Chinese journal, 2 in Japanese journal, and 1 in Taiwan journal. The papers on instrumental analyses were preceeded by HPLC, MS, GC with standard compounds of herbal medicine in Sagunja-tang(Sijunzi-tang). The papers on biological activities of Sagunja-tang(Sijunzi-tang) showed improvement of gastrointestinal activity and blood circulation, immunoactivity, anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, anti-fatigue, anti-stress, pharmacokinetics, hepatic protection, radioprotection, muscular activity, hematopoiesis and nontoxical effect. Further studies including gastrointestinal disorder, immune related disease, cancer, oxidative injury and pharmacokinetic study need to be preceeded to establish the fundament for EBM of Sagunja-tang(Sijunzi-tang).

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines or software, in contrast to human intelligence. Generative AI technologies, such as ChatGPT, have emerged as valuable research tools that facilitate brainstorming ideas for research, analyzing data, and writing papers. However, their application has raised concerns regarding authorship, copyright, and ethical considerations. Many organizations of medical journal editors, including the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and the World Association of Medical Editors, do not recognize AI technology as an author. Instead, they recommend that researchers explicitly acknowledge the use of AI tools in their research methods or acknowledgments. Similarly, international journals do not recognize AI tools as authors and insist that human authors should be accountable for the research findings. Therefore, when integrating AI-generated content into papers, it should be disclosed under the responsibility of human authors, and the details of the AI tools employed should be specified to ensure transparency and reliability.

  • Anxiety disorder is a prevalent psychiatric issue that affects 4.05% of the global population. As complementary and alternative medicine gains popularity, many individuals with anxiety symptoms seek herbal remedies. This systematic review aims to explore the sedative efficacy of chamomile as an herbal medicine for anxiety treatment. Our search was conducted in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus databases until August 2023. Among 389 papers found, after removing duplicates and irrelevant papers, 10 clinical trials investigating the effect of oral consumption of chamomile on anxiety were included. Two researchers independently completed all steps, including the screening process and data extraction. Out of the 10 articles selected, 9 studies have concluded that chamomile is effective in reducing anxiety. Even though, the exact mechanism of chamomile's anxiolytic action is not well understood, evidence suggests that its active compounds, including apigenin, may modulate the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical axis by affecting neurotransmitter pathways. This systematic review showed that chamomile potentially has an anxiolytic effect. In addition, due to the side effects of drugs used to treat anxiety disorders, the use of chamomile seems to be effective and less dangerous.

  • The perception of the importance of statistical methods for processing medical data in Korea's medical research and the practical use of the analysis method are insufficient. From this standpoint, in order to examine the features of the data analysis method used in the medical journals of Korea and America, we have examined the research papers which has been published in the exemplary medical journals of both countries. It showed that there was a large difference in the quantity and quality between Korea and America. Especially in the medical research of Korea, we could notice that the use of statistical methods were comparatively low. Hence the researchers in the medical area are encouraged to use more statistical methods in processing medical data.
