The Strategies for Promoting Health Tourism of Gangwon Province (강원도 의료관광산업 활성화 방안 : 자연자원을 이용한 치유관광 중심으로)

  • This study attempted to develop the directions for developing customized health tourism programs of Gangwon province. The data was collected by telephone surveys for 500 citizens in a metropolitan and regional cities in Korea in 2009. In conclusion, the province has many advantages to develop health tourism industries because the image of Gangwon health tour was represented to be generally positive and more than 65% of respondents were interested in participating health tourism of the province. The respondents also considered that the purpose of the tour is for relaxation rather than medical treatments. However, it requires flexible seasonal employment, scientific investigations of the natural environmental treatments and connectionwithleisureactivities, also need to collaborated with health and hospital services.

  • Through diversification of 4th industries and transportation and globalization, tourism was developed for medical purposes, not limited to touring tourist attractions. The trend of medical tourism in Korea is shifting from large and medium-sized hospitals to professional medical services in one area of small hospitals rather than professional medical services. However, small hospitals lack medical coordinators and interpretation services, and tourists who visit Korea for treatment lack information on small hospitals. Therefore, a platform is needed to match small hospitals with medical tourists. In this study, using Platform as a Service (Paas) in cloud computing, clinic administrators can access the app to introduce information about their hospitals with simple manipulations. Tourists also want to propose a customized platform to select the right area for them to check information about small-scale hospitals and choose the treatment and tourist attractions they wants.   • Potential risks of communicable disease outbreaks have significantly increased in the era of global society. However, contingency planning of local governments for communicable diseases is not prepared to the proper level in various governmental sectors of many countries. Human being has been remarkable advances in medical science and public health. However, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) still remains as a very dangerous transmissible disease that has great potential to create catastrophic consequences of casualties. The SARS outbreak between November 2002 and July 2003 resulted in 8,096 known infected cases and 774 deaths with a mortality rate of 9.6% worldwide (WHO, 2004). It is regarded as one of the human health disasters. Since about sixty-six percent of total SARS cases in the world were reported in People's Republic of China, Korean tour industry was significantly affected as a neighboring country. The objective of this research is to investigate major factors of Korea entry data sets, and to analyze economic impacts of Korean tour business interruption due to the period of SARS outbreak with tourist cases of four countries: Japan, U.S.A., China, and Taiwan. Results from this research show the seasonal and long-term trends of entry data sets of four countries, and direct and indirect impacts of SARS to Korean tour industry.

A recognition study on tourism of dental hygienist in parts areas (일부지역 치과위생사의 의료관광에 관한 인식 조사)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to suggest an effective future development direction of dental medical tourism in Korea by examining dental hygienists' perception of medical tourism and factors which are necessary to boost medical tourism. Methods : The subjects in this study were the dental hygienists who worked in Seoul. The study was conducted on 189 people who participated in refresher training, which was held in November 2010, by the Seoul Dental Hygienist Association. Self-administered questionnaire surveys were used. Results : 1. 106 people (56.1%) responded that medical tourism is "a tour to treat illness" and 73 (39.5%) responded that the introduction of medical tourism is "timely." 2. opposition against the introduction of medical tourism accounted for the highest proportion (61.6%) and the reason for it was "concern for mushrooming of untested types of medical treatment." 3. 131 people (71.6%) responded that they are willing to participate in medical treatment of medical tourism and 172 (93.0% of participants) cited "communication" as a most difficult issue. 4. Those who recognized medical tourism proved to have higher intentions to invest time and money to prepare for it (p<.002). Conclusions : In order to boost medical tourism, a unified treatment program for foreigners and training program for medical staff throughout the hospitals should be established.

  • Medical tourism is recognized as a high value-added industry due to its longer stay and more useful costs than general tourism, and is growing rapidly around the world, especially in Asia. In addition, medical tourism is a new form of tourism that combines medical services with tourism activities such as recreation, leisure, and cultural activities, nowadays, medical tourism is emphasizing the combination of medical and tourism. Although Korea medical system and clinic have excellent medical equipment and infrastructure, it is not consistent with policy support and legislation. That have make it difficult for consumers to choose clinics for medical tourism. Therefore, it is necessary to provide customized information to the clinics that consumers want to match each other's services. In particular, it is aimed at consumers with simple procedures and cosmetic purposes, especially at small hospitals. In this paper, we propose a customized service platform that matches users seeking clinics and also medical tourism. Also we can easy to reservation clinic for medical tour.

  • Globally, medical tourism draws attention as a national growth engine industry, and is actively expanding. Current medical tourism leans towards large hospitals making it difficult to attract new users. Users collect the information for medical tourism through various paths in order to receive medical consultations and customized tour services. To expand medical tourism to small and medium sized hospitals, it is necessary to have customized medical consultations, tours and interpreter services, which are the key elements of medical tourism. This paper suggests services that users can use to match medical consultations and find tours and interpreters they want at the same time. This paper suggests ways to provide integrated services based on the information experienced by users, combining the required items from the perspectives of each user, hospital and guide. To match the content provided by hospitals and guides with experience information from users systematically, this study suggests the convergence plan for a service model that can match the experience information between users and hospitals, between users and guides and between hospitals and guides systematically by operating the data in the universal container.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the knowledge on contacting experiences to foreign patients, the equipments and requirements to make the vitalization method for the oriental medical tourism for foreign patients. Methods : We adopted the focusing group interviews on the oriental medical doctors, nurses and personnels who had the experiences to deal with the oriental medical tourism. Results : For 3 parts, translation into each country's language in program, hospital information, treatment information and homepage should be done and consideration into each country's culture is very important part to know medical tourism patients and prepare the adequate products, and lastly the translater or medical coordinator plays a very important role to connect the hospital personnels with medical tourism patients. Conclusions : Translation in to each country's language concerning medical tourism material and understanding on one's country's culture and a medical coordinator are very important constituents for a successful medical tourism.

  • While only the experts could create the contents in the existing VR contents business, in the proposed "Untact Social VR Video-Based Tour Scheduling", the GUI (Graphic User Interface) allows anyone to easily and quickly share the information taken through VR camera after creating. It is intended to serve as a variety of SNS-based media by developing a structure that can be shared in html format after creating with the GUI menus. In particular, it is applied to companies that operate the SNS-type publicity projects including experience facilities and viewing facilities, and the various SNS-type publicity businesses that create the VR contents. Communication is clear compared to the existing homepage-based information delivery method, and It aims to provide universality that anyone can easily edit in an environment where only experts can edit VR video contents of.

Factors Influencing Intention of Vietnamese to Use Korean Medical Tourism (베트남인의 한국 의료관광 이용의도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to Vietnamese customers who use Korean medical and tourism services. The study was based on the Anderson Models Methods: Participants were 173 Vietnamese who were living in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi in Vietnam. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$, t-test and Multiple Logistic Regression. Results: Research necessary factors had the most significant effect among the preceding factors, possible factors and necessary factors. Human service and outstanding natural beauty of necessary factors had significant influence on customer intention to use. According to the result of the stepwise logistic regression analysis, the most important item in medical services was human service OR=1.89 (p=.014), and for tour services, outstanding natural beauty OR=4.30 (p=.033). The explained variance for customer intention to use was 91.9%. Conclusion: These results suggest the need to improve the human service and outstanding natural beauty to retain customers' intention to use.

A Study on Revitalization of Dental Medical Tourism in Korea

  • Medical tourism refers to visiting overseas to receive medical services and tourism at the same time. In other words, it can be said that it is a tourism activity that combines medical service, various cultural activities, leisure, and shopping. As such, medical tourism is not limited to simple medical services, but is a new high-value-added industry that creates new profits by fusion with tourism services. Many countries are making continuous efforts to foster their own tourism industry by attracting foreign tourists. Therefore, in order to secure competitiveness in dental services among the medical tourism industry in Korea, this study was to examine the relationship between dentist's treatment, hospital facilities, dental staff, and patient satisfaction. As a result, it was found that the dentist's treatment had a positive effect on both the staff of the dental facility in the hospital and the satisfaction of the patient.
