The use of scalable video coding scheme has been regarded as a promising solution for guaranteeing the quality of service of the video streaming over the Internet because it is a capable coding scheme to perform quality adaptation depending on network conditions. In this paper, we use a streaming model that transmits base layer using TCP and enhancement layers using DCCP, which try to provide transmission reliability of the BL and TCP friendliness. Unlike pervious works, the proposed algorithm performs rate adaptation based on playout buffer status. The PoB status of the client is sent back periodically to the server and serves as a network congestion indicator. Experimental results show that our scheme improves streaming quality comparing with pervious scheme in the case of not only constant/dynamic background flows but also VBR-encoded video sequence.

Adaptive bitrate streaming is a crucial element in the implementation of high-quality streaming of media content over the Internet. Dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH) has lately emerged as the de facto solution for over-the-top (OTT) video streaming services. In this paper, we perform macro-level analysis on a real-world MPEG-DASH-based Internet live broadcasting service to gain insight into its behavior throughout the end-to-end service-provision chain, from broadcasters to viewers. Based on this analysis, we propose methods to improve the quality-of-experience (QoE) of MPEG-DASH-based services, particularly with regard to reducing broadcasting delays between recording and viewing of videos, as well as synchronizing client terminals.
The most noticeable aspect of progressive streaming is the media playback during its download through TCP to avoid a lengthy wait for a content to finish downloading. By employing TCP, it is usually possible to detect lost packets by using the checksum and sequence numbering functions of TCP Thereafter, we can recover the lost packets by the retransmission function of TCP. However, there must remain enough amount of media data in the recipient buffer in order to guarantee seamless media playback even during retransmission. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for determining the initial buffering time before start of playback to guarantee seamless playback during retransmission considering the probability of client buffer under-flow. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm will be proved through extensive simulation results.

As the computing and network technique move rm and spread widly, the usage of multimedia application becomes in general while the usage of text based application becomes low. Especially the application which treats the streaming media such as video or movie, one of multimedia data, holds a majority in the usage of computing. MPEG, one of the typical compression standard of streaming media, provides very high compression ratio so that general users could be close to the streaming media with easy usage. However, the encoding of MPEG requires lots of computing power and time. In the paper, we design and implement a parallel MPEG encoder with MPI in cluster envrionment to reduce the encoding time of MPEG.
Purpose: This study is to explore how Netflix Customers' Engagement was influenced by Instagram Content, Perceived Price, Exclusivity, and Motivation in the context of Media Streaming and the role of Willingness to Subscribe as the mediating variable. This study underlines millennial's willingness to engage and the form of engagement. Research design, data, and methodology: The data for this research were collected from 100 Netflix's Millennials subscribers who follow @netflixid Instagram. All the results were analyzed and verified using SEM-PLS. Results: Research findings indicated that Willingness to Subscribe, Exclusivity, Motivation, and Instagram Content positively influenced Customer Engagement among Netflix millennials' subscribers. In contrast, Perceived Price had a negative effect on Customer Engagement. Conclusions: As a consequence, the exclusivity that Netflix offers to its audience by a recommendation algorithm has been proven to increase the engagement. This study also disclosed that the most definite form of positive engagement shown by Netflix millennials' subscribers is a behavioral aspect, where they positively recommend Netflix (word of mouth). The study findings can be a reference for the media streaming industry in their efforts to strengthen the engagement with their customers, especially the millennials, and provide knowledge about consumer behavior in digital technology.

This paper suggests a method of developing live media streaming service through Linux server system on android system environment. The android application constructed in the experiment is able to record media while sending it to Linux server. Generated real time media data is send to linux server through Multipart Request class of Apache Tomcat server constructed on Linux system. Also in this research, by utilizing Android video player and media player class, development of android application structures was accomplished, which has methods of; playing live media stream data on video server, or playing live media stream data while saving stream data in cache. The structure and function of suggested system and application is confirmed by series of experiments.

A new inter-client synchronization framework for multicast media streaming is proposed employing a server-client coordinated adaptive playout control. The proposed adaptive player controls the playback speed of audio and video by adopting the time-scale modification of audio. Based on the overall synchronization status as well as the buffer occupancy level, the playout speed of each client is manipulated within a perceptually tolerable range. Additionally, the server implicitly helps increasing the time available for retransmission while the clients perform an interactive error recovery mechanism with the assistance of playout control. The network-simulator based simulations show that the proposed framework can reduce the playout discontinuity without degrading the media quality, and thus mitigate the client heterogeneity.

For real-time interactive multimedia operations, such as video uploading, video play, fast-forward, and fast-rewind, solid state disk (SSD)-based storage systems for video streaming servers are becoming more important. Random access rates in storage systems increase significantly with the number of users; it is thus difficult to simultaneously serve many users with HDD-based storage systems, which have low random access performance. Because there is no mechanical operation in NAND flash-based SSDs, they outperform HDDs in terms of flexible random access operation. In addition, due to the multichannel architecture of SSDs, they perform similarly to HDDs in terms of sequential access. In this paper, we propose a new SSD-based storage system for interactive media servers. Based on the proposed method, it is possible to maximize the channel utilization of the SSD's multichannel architecture. Accordingly, we can improve the performance of SSD-based storage systems for interactive media operations.

Nowadays QoS / QoE using technology as part of HTTP, dynamic adaptive streaming technology that became a big issue. In this paper, using HTTP, dynamic adaptive streaming technology is introduced. This dynamic adaptive streaming using HTTP-based system design and implementation. In this system, a number of MPEG2-TS file bitrate's conversion of image quality, a certain amount of time by the division of Segment, standing before the final note of the files that are used in transmission MPD (Media Presentation Description) File creation and streaming between servers and clients using HTTP to a dynamic and adaptive network environment consists of bitrate's streamers. In a network environment in which an unspecified number of seamless continuous playback of video streaming for a variety of sectors and will be utilized in the field of multimedia.

Video streaming over wireless networks is challenging due to node mobility and high channel error rate. In this paper, we propose a multi-source video streaming (MUVIS) system to support high quality video streaming service over IEEE 802.1l-based wireless networks. We begin by collocating a streaming proxy with the wireless access point to help leverage both the media server and peers in the WLAN. By tracking the peer mobility patterns and performing content discovery among peers, we construct a multi-source sender group and stream video using a rate-distortion optimized scheme. We formulate such a multi-source streaming scenario as a combinatorial packet scheduling problem and introduce the concept of asynchronous clocks to decouple the problem into three steps. First, we decide the membership of the multisource sender group based on the mobility pattern tracking, available video content in each peer and the bandwidth each peer allocates to the multi-source streaming service. Then, we select one sender from the sender group in each optimization instance using asynchronous clocks. Finally, we apply the point-to-point rate-distortion optimization framework between the selected sender-receiver pair. In addition, we implement two different caching strategies, simple caching simple fetching (SCSF) and distortion minimized smart caching (DMSC), in the proxy to investigate the effect of caching on the streaming performance. To design more realistic simulation models, we use the empirical results from corporate wireless networks to generate node mobility. Simulation results show that our proposed multi-source streaming scheme has better performance than the traditional server-only streaming scheme and that proxy-based caching can potentially improve video streaming performance.
