스케일러블 비디오 부호화의 개요 및 성능 분석 (Overview and Performance Analysis of the Emerging Scalable Video Coding)

  • 근래의 무선망 및 인터넷의 초고속화에 따라 풍부한 멀티미디어에 대한 사용자의 요구가 증대되고 있으며, 이동 통신의 활성화 및 DMB(Digital Media Broadcasting)와 같은 통방융합 서비스의 등장으로 여러 네트워크 망을 통해 다양한 성능을 가진 단말로의 멀티미디어 서비스가 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 환경 변화에 따라 비트율을 줄이기 위한 비디오 압축 부호화 기술뿐만 아니라 시변의 전송 조건, 전송망 특성, 다양한 단말 성능, 사용자 선호도 등에 대한 비디오의 적응 기술에 관심이 모아졌으며, 그 결과 ISO/IEC MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) 및 ITU-T VCEG(Video Coding Experts Group)의 JVT(Joint Video Team)에서는 비디오 부호화의 스케일러빌러티(scalbility)를 제공하기 위한 SVC(Scalable Video Coding) 표준화를 진행하였다. 본 논문에서는 공간/시간/화질적 스케일러빌러티를 지원하기 위한 SVC의 대표적 표준 기술들에 대해 설명하고, 기존의 단일 계층(single layer) 부호화 방식과 비교하여 SVC의 부가 비트 요구량 및 부호화 효율에 대해 성능 평가를 하였다.

An Embedded Multifunctional Media System for Mobile Devices in Terrestrial DTV Relaying

  • The paper presents a novel embedded multifunctional media sever (EMMS) for mobile devices to receive various media programs. Being different from other contemporary system research, the paper mainly studies how to design a reception solution for terrestrial digital television (DTV) on mobile devices and how to enable mobile devices can receive DTV program, enjoy video-on-demand (VOD), achieve video surveillance and relay Internet video program via local Wi-Fi simultaneously. In the system design, we integrate broadcasting-terrestrial DTV tuner, streaming media re-transmission system, VOD disk, video camera and access interface to the Internet into EMMS, which can either receive terrestrial DTV radio signals and demodulate out digital transport stream (TS), or can read streaming media bit-stream from VOD disk, surveillance camera or access interface to the Internet. The experimental results show the proposed system is stable and quality-efficient. Comparing with the other systems, the proposed system has the least packet loss rate and response time.

2D Adjacency Matrix Generation using DCT for UWV contents

  • Since a display device such as TV or signage is getting larger, the types of media is getting changed into wider view one such as UHD, panoramic and jigsaw-like media. Especially, panoramic and jigsaw-like media is realized by stitching video clips, which are captured by different camera or devices. In order to stich those video clips, it is required to find out 2D Adjacency Matrix, which tells spatial relationships among those video clips. Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), which is used as a compression transform method, can convert the each frame of video source from the spatial domain (2D) into frequency domain. Based on the aforementioned compressed features, 2D adjacency Matrix of images could be found that we can efficiently make the spatial map of the images by using DCT. This paper proposes a new method of generating 2D adjacency matrix by using DCT for producing a panoramic and jigsaw-like media through various individual video clips.

The Effects of Social Media on Music-induced Tourism: A Case of Korean Pop Music and Inbound Tourism to Korea

  • With the rapid spread of social media, video-sharing social media like YouTube has emerged as a consumption and distribution channel for entertainment goods such as music videos and movie trailers. In tourism research, there has been a lot of research of how the visual media such as movies and soap operas induced tourism. However, no studies have attempted to examine the role of social media as a music consumption channel and its impact on tourism. Expanding a body of media-induced tourism, we analysed the impact of video-sharing social media on music-induced tourism with a case of Korean pop music and inbound tourism to Korea. Developing a Web-crawler, we collected YouTube users' comments data on 166 Korean pop music video clips which were released from 2009 to 2012 with over 1 million view counts. Controlling many of the determinants of tourism and analysing country-by-country impact of YouTube comments with the panel data, we found that engagement of Korean pop music video clips on YouTube is a significant predictor for the flow of inbound tourists to Korea.

영상미디어의 게임문화 재매개 양상 연구 (A Study on the Remediation of Game Culture in Video Media)

  • 본 연구는 일방향적이고 관람 위주의 콘텐츠를 지향하고 있는 영화와 드라마 등의 영상미디어가 뉴미디어인 게임의 속성을 어떻게 재매개하고 있는지를 구체적인 사례를 통해 분석하고 게임성이 발현되는 양상을 살펴 게임과 영상미디어의 영향 관계 및 융합 양상을 연구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 영상미디어의 게임문화 융합 양상은 크게 두 가지 유형으로 나타났다. 첫 번째는 게임의 콘텐츠적인 측면을 소극적으로 융합하는 양상이며, 두 번째는 게임의 시스템적인 측면을 적극적으로 융합하는 양상이다. 이와 같은 연구는 게임이 다양한 영상미디어에 영향을 주고 있음을 밝힘과 동시에 게임 미디어가 대중 문화를 이끌어가는 대표적인 미디어로 기능하고 특히 포스트 코로나 시대에 더 강조되는 온택트 패러다임을 이끌어가는 주역으로 자리매김할 수 있음을 증명하는 기초 연구로 그 의의가 있다.

  • This paper presents the interior space information using 6D-360 degree immersive media video information. And we implement the augmented reality, which includes a variety of information such as position information, movement information of the specific location in the interior space GPS signal does not reach the position information. Augmented reality containing the 6D-360 degree immersive media video information provides the position information and the three dimensional space image information to identify the exact location of a user in an interior space of a moving object as well as a fixed interior space. This paper constitutes a three dimensional image database based on the 6D-360 degree immersive media video information and provides augmented reality service. Therefore, to map the various information to 6D-360 degree immersive media video information, the user can check the plant in the same environment as the actual. It suggests the augmented reality service for the emergency escape and repair to the passengers and employees.

  • A video summary abstracts the gist from an entire video and also enables efficient access to the desired content. In this paper, we propose a novel method for summarizing news video based on multimodal analysis of the content. The proposed method exploits the closed caption data to locate semantically meaningful highlights in a news video and speech signals in an audio stream to align the closed caption data with the video in a time-line. Then, the detected highlights are described using MPEG-7 Summarization Description Scheme, which allows efficient browsing of the content through such functionalities as multi-level abstracts and navigation guidance. Multimodal search and retrieval are also within the proposed framework. By indexing synchronized closed caption data, the video clips are searchable by inputting a text query. Intensive experiments with prototypical systems are presented to demonstrate the validity and reliability of the proposed method in real applications.

  • For real-time interactive multimedia operations, such as video uploading, video play, fast-forward, and fast-rewind, solid state disk (SSD)-based storage systems for video streaming servers are becoming more important. Random access rates in storage systems increase significantly with the number of users; it is thus difficult to simultaneously serve many users with HDD-based storage systems, which have low random access performance. Because there is no mechanical operation in NAND flash-based SSDs, they outperform HDDs in terms of flexible random access operation. In addition, due to the multichannel architecture of SSDs, they perform similarly to HDDs in terms of sequential access. In this paper, we propose a new SSD-based storage system for interactive media servers. Based on the proposed method, it is possible to maximize the channel utilization of the SSD's multichannel architecture. Accordingly, we can improve the performance of SSD-based storage systems for interactive media operations.

  • Embedding information into video data is a topic that recently gained increasing attention. This paper proposes a new approach for digital watermarking and secure copyright protection of video, the principal aim being to discourage illicit copying and distribution of copyrighted material. The method presented here is based on the three dimensional discrete cosine transform of video scene, in contrast with previous works on video watermarking where each video frame was marked separately, or where only intra-frame or motion compensation parameters were marked in MPEG compressed videos. The watermark sequence used is encrypted, pseudo-noise signal to the video. The performance of the presented technique is evaluated experimentally

영상분석 기술을 활용한 시니어용 동영상 편집 시스템 (Video Content Editing System for Senior Video Creator based on Video Analysis Techniques)

  • 본 논문에서는 영상 편집이 익숙하지 않은 시니어 동영상 크리에이터를 위한 동영상 편집 시스템을 설명한다. 영상분석 기술을 이용하여 편집소스 동영상을 분석하여 각종 정보를 제공하고, 자동으로 일부 장면을 삭제한다. 사용자가 다수의 소스 콘텐츠를 입력하였을 때, RNN(Recurrent Neural Network) 기술을 기반으로 샷 단위로 분할하고, 이 중 동영상 편집에서 배제할 부분을 구분한다. 각 샷 별로 중요도를 계산하여 샷 단위로 자동 삭제가 가능하도록 한다. 중요도 계산을 위해서 동영상 초점 정보를 추출하여 활용하는데, 이는 초점이 맞지 않는 영상 또는 흔들린 영상을 배제할 수 있도록 한다. 이후 시스템은 객체 인식을 수행하고, 얼굴이 나온 영상에 대해서 감정, 나이, 성별 등의 정보를 추출하여 사용자에게 제공한다. 사용자는 이런 정보를 활용하여 동영상을 제작한다. 동영상에 자막을 삽입하는 등 동영상을 꾸미기 위한 기능들도 포함되어 있으며, 이런 기능들을 활용할 시, 사용자의 과거 정보를 이용해서 선호 디자인을 쉽게 찾을 수 있도록 앞서 배치하고 있다. 시니어 동영상 크리에이터들이 본 시스템을 통해서 쉽고 빠르게 동영상 콘텐츠를 제작할 수 있다.
