This paper presents a new approach to the AFR (Air-to-Fuel Ratio) control problem, which is based on the wide-band oxygen sensor output. The dedicated nonlinear controller is based on the feedback lineaization technique. It is well known that the feedback linearizing control technique requires an exact model of the plant for the cancellation of plant nonlinearities. A sliding mode control scheme is applied which can effectively compensate the modeling uncertainties. The measurement time delay of an oxygen sensor limits the gain of the feedback controller. Hence, time delay compensation procedure is necessary for the improvement of control performance. The Smith predictor is adopted to compensate the effects of time delay. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed controllers can effectively reduce the transient peaks of AFR in spite of fast tip-in and tip-out maneuvers of the throttle.
Tangible interface can be understood as a newly defined concept, which can provide an effective and seamless interaction between the human as a subjective existence and the cyberspace as an objective existence. Tactile sensation is essential for many exploration and manipulation tasks in the tangible space. In this paper, we suggest the design of an integrated tactile sensor-display system that provides both of sensing and feedback with kinesthetic force, pressure distribution, vibration and slip/stretch. A new tactile sensor with PDVF strips and display system with bimorph actuators has been developed and integrated by developed signal processing algorithm. In the scenario of haptic navigation in the tangible space, tactile feedback system is successfully experimented.
In remote control of telerobotics equipment, the real-time visual feedback is necessary in order to facilitate real-time control. Because of the network congestion and the associated delays, the real-time image feedback is generally difficult in the public networks like internet. If the remote user is not able to receive the image feedback within a certain time, the work performance may tend to decrease, and it makes difficulties to control of the telerobotics equipment. In this paper, we propose an improved visual feedback scheme over the internet for telerobotics system. The size of a remote site image and its quality are adjusted for efficient transmission. The constructed system has a better real-time update characteristics, and shows a potential for the real-time visual control of the telerobotics system.
During the past three decades, several techniques have been suggested for robust performance design of multivariable systems within the framework of Quantitative Feedback Theory. They are all characterized and limited by the use of loop transmission inversion. A new approach within framework is described which leads to a design tehnique without loop transmission inversion. Complete sequential design algorithms are derived for performance specifications in terms of plant input disturbance, sensitivity, complimentary sensitivity and control effort.
This paper presents the system modeling, analysis, and controller design and implementation for a rotational inverted pendulum system(RIPS), which is an under-actuated system and has the problem of unattainable angular velocity state. A sliding mode controller using the parameterization of both the hyperplane and the compensator fur output feedback is applied to the RIPS. Also, to improve the performance of the control system, a disturbance observer which estimates the disturbance, parameter variation, and some modeling errors of RIPS with less computational effort is used together. The results of simulation and experiment show that the proposed control system has superior performance for disturbance rejection and regulation at certain initial conditions.
In this paper the sway-control problem of a container crane is investigated. The control loop is divided into two stages. The first stage is a modified time optimal control for trolley traversing. The velocity command for trolley traversing consists of three components ; a reference velocity and two feedback signals for compensating the deviations of trolley and sway angle from their desired trajectories. For trolley's exact positioning the trolley dynamics is identified via an error equation identifier structure. The second stage is a nonlinear residual sway control that starts at the end of first stage. The control design for the second stage is investigated from the perspective of controling an underactuated system, and the control law combines the feedback linearization and variable structure control.
This paper presents design of the quantitative feedback control system of the three axes hydraulic road simulator with respect to the dummy wheel for uncertain multiple input-output(MIMO) feedback systems. This simulator has the uncertain parameters such as fluid compressibility, fluid leakage, electrical servo components and nonlinear mechanical connections. This works have reproduced the random input signal to implement the real road vibration's data in the lab. The replaced $m^2$ MISO equivalent control systems satisfied the design specifications of the original $m^*m$ MIMO control system and developed the mathematical method using quantitative feedback theory based on schauder's fixed point theorem. This control system illustrates a tracking performance of the closed-loop controller with low order transfer function G(s) and pre-filter F(s) having the minimum bandwidth for parameters of uncertain plant. The efficacy of the designed controller is verified through the dynamic simulation with combined hydraulic model and Adams simulator model. The Matlab simulation results to connect with Adams simulator model show that the proposed control technique works well under uncertain hydraulic plant system. The designed control system has satisfied robust performance with stability bounds, tracking bounds and disturbance. The Hydraulic road simulator consists of the specimen, hydraulic pump, servo valve, hydraulic actuator and its control equipments
Visual servoing is the fusion of results from many elemental areas including high-speed image processing, kinematics, dynamics, control theory, and real-time computing. It has much in common with research into active vision and structure from motion, but is quite different from the often described use of vision in hierarchical task-level robot control systems. We present a new approach to visual feedback control using image-based visual servoing with the stereo vision in this paper. In order to control the position and orientation of a robot with respect to an object, a new technique is proposed using a binocular stereo vision. The stereo vision enables us to calculate an exact image Jacobian not only at around a desired location but also at the other locations. The suggested technique can guide a robot manipulator to the desired location without giving such priori knowledge as the relative distance to the desired location or the model of an object even if the initial positioning error is large. This paper describes a model of stereo vision and how to generate feedback commands. The performance of the proposed visual servoing system is illustrated by the simulation and experimental results and compared with the case of conventional method for dual-arm robot made in Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
The phase criterion of the feedback cycle of low-speed edgetones has been obtained using the jet-edge interaction model which is based on the substitution of an array of dipoles for the reaction of the wedge to the impinging jet. The edgetone is produced by the feedback loop between the downstream-convected sinuous disturbance and upstream-propagating waves generated by the impingement of the disturbance on the wedge. By estimation of the phase difference between the downstream and the upstream disturbances, the relationship between the edge distance and the wavelength is obtained according to the phase-locking condition at the nozzle lip. With a little variation depending on the characteristics of jet-edge interaction, the criterion can be approximated as follows: h/.LAMBDA. + h/.lambda. = n - 1/4, where h is the stand-off distance between the nozzle lip and the edge tip, .LAMBDA. is the wavelength of downstream-convected wave, .lambda. is the wavelength of the upstream-propagating acoustic wave and n is the stage number for the ladder-like characteristics of frequency. The present criterion has been confirmed by estimating wavelengths from available experimental data and investigating their appropriateness. The above criterion has been found to be effective up to 90.deg. of wedge angle corresponding to the cavitytones.
The electrical muscle stimulator (EMS) based human machine interface (HMI) free to mechanical constraint and muscle fatigue problems are proposed for force feedback in a virtual reality. The device was designed to provide force feedback up to 4.8 N and 2.6 N each to the thumb and forefingers. The main objective of the HMI is to make unnecessary mechanical structures to attach on the hand or fingers. It employs custom EMSs and an interface arranged in the forearm. In this work, major muscle groups such as extensor pollicis brevis (EPB), extensor indicis proprius (EIP), flexor pollicis longus (FPL) and flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) are selected for efficient force feedback and controlled individually. For this, a human muscular-skeletal analysis was performed and verified. The validity of the proposed multi-channel EMS based HMI was evaluated thorough various experiments with ten human subjects, interacting with a virtual environment.
