Objectives: This study evaluated the dentinal penetration depth of 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) in root canals with and without preparation and different irrigant activation protocols. Materials and Methods: Sixty-three bovine mandibular incisors were randomly allocated to 6 groups (n = 10): G1, preparation + conventional needle irrigation (CNI); G2, preparation + passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI); G3, preparation + Odous Clean (OC); G4, no preparation + CNI; G5, no preparation + PUI; G6, no preparation + OC; and CG (negative control; n = 3). Samples were filled with crystal violet for 72 hours. Irrigant activation was performed. Samples were sectioned perpendicularly along the long axis, 3 mm and 7 mm from the apex. Images of the root thirds of each block were captured with a stereomicroscope and analyzed with an image analysis software. One-way analysis of variance, followed by the Tukey post hoc test, and the Student's t-test were used for data analysis, with a significance level of 5%. Results: The NaOCl penetration depth was similar when preparation was performed, regardless of the method of irrigation activation (p > 0.05). In the groups without preparation, G6 showed greater NaOCl penetration depth (p < 0.05). The groups without preparation had a greater NaOCl penetration depth than those with preparation (p = 0.0019). Conclusions: The NaOCl penetration depth was similar in groups with root canal preparation. Without root canal preparation, OC allowed deeper NaOCl penetration. The groups without preparation had greater NaOCl penetration than those undergoing root canal preparation.

Combustion characteristics for co-firing of biomass (Walnut Shell) as blending fuel in coal fired boiler have investigated using thermogravimetric analyser (TGA) and drop tube reactor (DTR). The results show that devolatilization and char combustion for WS occurs at lower temperature than those of existing coals and has lower activation energy value, which is resulting in higher reactivity. When the WS is blended with coal, TGA results show linear profiles depending on blending ratio for each fuel. However, DTR results exist the non-additive phenomena for blending of WS. As blending ratio of WS increase, the UBC decrease at BBR 5%, but the UBC rather increase from BBR 10% due to oxygen deficiency formed from rapid combustion of WS. This paper propose that fuel lean condition by oxygen rich lead to higher blending ratio of biomass by solving the oxygen deficiency condition.
This study was performed to investigate the mechanism of changes in arterial blood pressure, as a typical example of somatosympathetic reflex, induced by activation of muscular afferent nerves. Cats were anesthetized with ${\alpha}-chloraloae$ (60 mg/kg, i.p.). Afferent fibers in muscle nerve were activated by various method muscle contraction, electrical stimulation of muscle nerves, intraarterial injection of some algesic substances and noxious mechanical stimulation etc-and the evoked changes in arterial blood pressure were monitored. The effects of intravenous or direct spinal administration of morphine on the changes in arterial blood pressure induced by activation of the muscle afferent fibers were observed and also the effects of spinal lesions made in the $L1{\sim}L3$ spinal cord on them were studied to identify the ascending spinal pathways of the somatosympathetic reflexes. Followings are the results obtained. 1) The stimulation of medial gastrocnemius nerve under non-paralyzed condition with C-strength, low frequency (lower than 20 Hz) stimuli elicited a depressor response and a pressor response was elicited with C-strength, high frequency stimuli, of which the maximal response was observed at 100 Hz stimulation. 2) When the animal was paralyzed, depressor response to stimulation of the medial gastrocnemius nerve was observed with C-strength, $0.5{\sim}5Hz$ stimuli although the amplitude of the depressor response was decreased. The maximal pressor response was observed during stimulation with C-strength, $20{\sim}100Hz$ stimuli. 3) Intraarterial injection of some algesic substances induced marked pressor responses while noxious mechanical stimulation of the medial gastrocnemius muscle was not enough to elicit any significant changes (larger than 10 mmHg) in arterial blood pressure. 4) Systemically administered morphine (2 mg/kg) lowered the arterial blood pressure immediately and persistently and it was reversed by administration of naloxone. Direct spinally administered morphine did not elicit any changes. 5) The pressor response elicited by the activation of muscle afferent nerves was strengthened by systemic morphine administration while the depressor response tended to decrease. 6) Morphine administered on the spinal cord directly, decreased pressor response but did not change depressor response. From the above results it is concluded that there are separate groups of afferent nerves in the medial gastrocnemius nerve, which elicit pressor and depressor responses and the spinal ascending pathways of them are also separated from each other.

Background and Objectives During speech, the vocal folds oscillate at frequencies ranging from 100-200 Hz with amplitudes of a few millimeters. Mechanical stimulation is an essential factor which affects metabolism of human vocal folds. The effect of mechanical vibration on the cellular response in the human vocal fold fibroblasts cells (hVFFs) was evaluated. Materials and Method We created a culture systemic device capable of generating vibratory stimulations at human phonation frequencies. To establish optimal cell culture condition, cellular proliferation and viability assay was examined. Quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction was used to assess extracellular matrix (ECM) related and growth factors expression on response to changes in vibratory frequency and amplitude. Western blot was used to investigate ECM and inflammation-related transcription factor activation and its related cellular signaling transduction pathway. Results The cell viability was stable with vibratory stimulation within 24 h. A statistically significant increase of ECM genes (collagen type I alpha 1 and collagen type I alpha 2) and growth factor [transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) and fibroblast growth factor 1 (FGF-1)] observe under the experimental conditions. Vibratory stimulation induced transcriptional activation of NF-κB by phosphorylation of p65 subunit through cellular Mitogen-activated protein kinases activation by extracellular signal regulated kinase and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) phosphorylation on hVFFs. Conclusion This study confirmed enhancing synthesis of collagen, TGF-β1 and FGF was testified by vibratory stimulation on hVFFs. This mechanism is thought to be due to the activation of NF-κB and MAPKs. Taken together, these results demonstrate that vibratory bioreactor may be a suitable alternative to hVFFs for studying vocal folds cellular response to vibratory vocalization.
Bottom ash from coal fired power plants is not widely used due to a broad range of particle sizes and a high carbon content for producing geopolymers. The effect of mechanical activation on compressive strength of bottom ash- based geopolymers was examined by rod and planetary-ball milling to encourage full-fledged recycling of bottom ash, the main component of pond ash. The amount of amorphous component in the milled ash samples did not change significantly after the mechanical activation. It is presumably because needle-shaped mullite crystals, which is a major crystalline phase and grown in a glassy matrix, possess high strength and toughness, and therefore, they could endure external shocks and remain almost intact. Milling operation, however, decreased the particle size and improved the homogeneity of ash, thereby leading to increase reactivity of milled ash with alkali activators. Rod milling produced a relatively narrow particle size distribution of the milled ash particles; however, it was less effective in reducing the particle size. Nevertheless, it was interesting to observe that rod milling had equal effect on improving the compressive strength of geopolymers up to about 37%, as that of planetary ball milling. Rod milling is believed to be suitable process for enhancing the reactivity of bottom ash for large-scale recycling of bottom ash and producing geopolymers.

Titanium alloy has widely been used as material for glasses frame parts because it has high specific strength. It is also light and harmless to human body. However, we have little design data about the mechanical properties such as the creep behaviors of the alloy. Therefore, in this study, creep tests under four constant stress conditions have been conducted with four different temperature conditions. A series of creep tests had been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of titanium products and we have gotten the following results. First, the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increased. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decrease as the stresses became bigger. Thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller parameter on this alloy was estimated as about 2.5. Finally, the fractographs at the creep rupture showed the ductile fracture due to the intergranullar rupture and some dimples.
Objective : This study characterized the neurons in the lumbosacral cord that express phospho ERK (pERK) after distension or irritation of the bladder, and their relation to the vanilloid receptor 1 (VR1) positive primary afferents. Methods : Mechanical distension and chemical irritation of the bladder were induced by intravesical injection of the saline and mustard oil, respectively. Spinal neurons expressing pERK and the primary afferent fibers were characterized using multiple immunofluorescence for neurokinin 1 (NK1), neuronal nitric oxide synthetase (nNOS) and VR1. Results : Neurons in lamina I, medial dorsal horn (MDH), dorsal gray commissure (DGC) and sacral parasympathetic nucleus (SPN) were immunoreactive for pERK after either mechanical or chemical stimulation. The majority of pERK positive cells were positive for NK1 in lamina I and SPN, but not in the DGC. Most of pERK positive cells are not stained for nNOS except in a small population of the cells in the SPN and DGC. Contacts between perikarya and dendrites of pERK-positive cells and terminals of primary afferents expressing VR1 were identified in lamina I. lateral collateral path (LCP) and SPN. Conclusion : In this study, the lumbosacral neurons activated by mechanical and chemical stimulation of the urinary bladder were identified with expression of the pERK, and also provided the evidence that VR1-positive primary afferents may mediate the activation of these neurons.

Crystallization of the amorphous silicon needs activation. Thermal energy through laser annealing, furnace annealing and rapid thermal process (RTP) has been convinced to crystallize the amorphous silicon thin film. It is expected that some other type of energy like mechanical energy can help to crystallize the amorphous silicon thin film. In this study, mechanical energy through wet blasting of silica slurry and silicon ion implantation has been applied to the amorphous silicon thin film deposited with LPCVD technique. RTP was employed for the annealing of this mechanically-damaged amorphous silicon thin film. For the characterization of the crystallized silicon thin film, XRD and Raman analysis were conducted. In this study, it is shown that the mechanical damage is effective to enhance the crystallization of amorphous silicon thin film.
In this study, a small punch creep (SP-Creep) test using miniaturized specimen has been described for the development of the new creep test method for high temperature structural components such as headers and tubes of boiler, turbine casing and rotor, and reactor vessel. The SP-Creep testing technique has been applied to 1Cr-0.5Mo steel used widely as boiler header material and the creep test temperature are varied at $550^{\circ}C{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. From the experimental results, e.g. SP-Creep curve behaviors, the creep rate in steady state and creep rupture life with test temperature and load, the load exponential value(n, m), the activation energy($Q_{spc}$), the Monkman-Grant relation and the creep life assessment equation etc., it can be summarized that the SP-Creep test may be a useful test method to evaluate the creep properties of the heat resisting material such as boiler header.

In this work, the blend of diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and modified polyurethane (PU) was prepared and characterized in the cure behaviors and mechanical interfacial properties. The N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate was used as a cationic initiator for cure, and the content of PU was varied within 0-20 phr. The cure behaviors and mechanical interfacial properties were studied by DSC, nearIR, and the critical stress intensity actor $(K_{IC})$ measurements. Also thermal stabilities were carried out by TMA and TGA analyses. As a result, the cure activation energy $(E_a)$ and the conversion $(\alpha)$ were slightly increased with increasing the PU content, and a maximum value was found at 10 phr PU. The mechanical interfacial properties measured from $K_{IC}$ showed a similar behaviors with the results of conversion. These results were probably due to the increase of the hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl groups of DGEBA and isocyanate groups in PU.
