  • This paper presented a new measuring system to improve circular motion accuracy by using two-dimensonal probe and master ring for NC machine tools. This measuring system reduced the circular motion error conspicuously by eliminating the influence of the acceleration/deceleration range and compensating the friction force whose influences were significant while measuring the motion. Experimental results show that this system had enough accuracy to measure a circular motion for NC machine tools, compared with the circular test method and the r .theta. method.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of currently used elastomeric impression materials for complete arch impression taking. Five elastomers (Impregum, Permlastic, Express, Extrude, Examix) and one Irreversible hydrocolloid (Aroma-fine) were tested. For each material, 5 impressions were made of stainless steel model to which five tapered posts were attached. Custom trays were used for polyether and polysulfide impression materials, and putty/wash two step technique was used for addition polyvinylsiloxane impression materials. Improved stone mod els were poured to all impressions. Accuracy of the materials was assessed by measuring ten distances on stone dies poured from impressions of the master model. All measurements for master and improved stone models were made with three dimensional measuring machine. The results were as follows 1. The dimensional accuracy of polyether, extrude, and examix were significantly superior to poly-sulfide, exress, and alginate in reproducing full arch mode (p<0.05) 2. There were no statistical differences in dimensional accuracy for full arch impression between polyether extrude and examix (p>0.05). 3. there were no statistical differences in dimensional accuracy between polysulfide, express, and alginate(p>0.05). 4. There were no statistical differences between addition polyvinyl siloxane materials (p>0.05) 5. There were no statistical differences between anterior-posterior and lateral dimensional changes of all impression materials (p>0.05).

  • This study was designed to development of stock tray for Korean. The subjects for this study were 374 persons(male : 204, female : 170) with age $19{\sim}28$. The study models were made with irreversible hydrocolloid impression material and conventional stock tray, Individual trays were made on the study model and the master models were made after impression with polysulfide rubber impression material. Each of the master models measured 12 measuring points on the maxillary model and 13 measuring points on the mandibular model with digital sliding caliper. The values were analyzed statistically by SAS analysis. The measuring points were analysed and were consulted for the development of new stock tray for Korean. Maxillary models were divided into four groups acceding to the width between buccal alveolar ridges below the contact point of first molar and second molar. The size of new tray of the upper first group was 82mm (width), 60mm(length). That of the upper second group was 77mm (width), 59mm (length). That of the upper third group was 72mm (width), 58mm (length). And that of the upper fourth group was 67mm (width), 57mm (length). Mandibular models were devided into three group according to the width between lingual alveolar ridges below the second molar. The size of new tray on lower first group was 40mm (width), 55mm (length). That of the lower second group was 36mm (width), 55mm (length). And that of the third group was 32mm (width), 55mm (length). The author tested the fitness of newly designed stock tray in 52 subjects with normal occlusion and obtained good results that the problems of conventional stock tray were worked out.

  • Shadow moire topography has been used as a noncontact method for measuring the 3-D shapes of objects. The moire fringes are results from the superposition of a master grating and its shadow projected on the surface of an object. But in case of the classical shadow moire method, in general, the resolution is a few tenths of millimeter. It is difficult to use a phase -shifting method in shadow moire because it is impossible to obtain uniform phase shifts on the whole field. But in this study , We introduce a phase-shifting method to improve the resolution of the classical shadow moire method. This method is based on the fact that if the depth of object is much less than the distance between the observer and the master grating, the phase shifts are almost uniform on the whole field area. Finally, we applied this new phase-shifting method to the measurement of the 3-D shape of a coin.

  • A testing machine was devised and constructed for the purpose of measuring the retentive forces of maxillary complete denture bases in subjects. Forth complete denture bases were made for ten subjects with three different denture base materials, following the usual denture construction technique. Retentive forces of the forty dentures were determined at seven locations. The tests on each base were repeated three times at intervals of 5 minutes. Differences in retention values were evaluated statistically. 1) Differences in retention values were found by the differences of the denture base materials, but acrylic resin was similar to chromium cobalt alloy. 2) The chromium cobalt alloy and acrylic resin bases from master models revealed the best retention values, the gold alloy base from master model was the poor second and the acrylic resin base from snap model was the third. 3) The retention values for hook-1 revealed higher than that for hook-2 and the retention values for hook-3 revealed the lowest value.

  • The education of mathematics is comprised of formal thoughts so students lose interest and they don't have a chance to have a liberal mind. To solve this problem, recently, the flow of mathematic education is changing from formal mathematics to experimental mathematics, which focuses on student's activity and experience. Experimental mathematics can improve student's interest and participation. This study is about teaching methods of trigonometric functions through experimental mathematics measuring height and width of buildings. For measuring height of buildings we use clinometer and for measuring width of buildings we developed a mathematical tool with which we can measure angle for width of buildings. Through this activity, students obtained an interest in mathematics and they gained a positive attitude for the lesson. If we use this experimental mathematics method in high school, it's possible to reduce fears of mathematics and to increase an interest for mathematics.

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of dimensional stability of splinting material on the accuracy of master casts. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A stainless steel metal model with 6 implants embedded was used as a master model. Implant level impressions were made after square impression copings were splinted using 5 different techniques as follows. (1) Splinted with autopolymerizing resin and sectioned, reconnected to compensate polymerization shrinkage before the impression procedure. (2) Splinted with autopolymerizing resin just before impression procedure. (3) Primary impression made with impression plaster and secondary impression were made over with polyether impression material. (4) Splinted with impression plaster. (5) Splinted with VPS bite registration material. From master model, 5 impressions and 5 experimental casts, total 25 casts were made for each of 5 splinting methods. The distortion values of each splinting methods were measured using coordinate measuring machine, capable of recordings in the x-, y-, z- axes. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a confidence level of 95% was used to evaluate the data and Tukey's studentized range test was used to determine significant differences between the groups. RESULTS. Group 1 showed best accuracy followed by Group 3 & 4. Group 2 and 5 showed relatively larger distortion value than other groups. No significant difference was found between group 3, 4, 5 in x-axis, group 2, 3, 4 in y-axis and group 1, 3, 4, 5 in z-axis (P<.0001). CONCLUSION. Both Splinting impression copings with autopolymerizing resin following compensation of polymerization shrinkage and splinting method with impression plaster can enhance the accuracy of master cast and impression plaster can be used simple and effective splinting material for implant impression procedure.

  • Funtional metal prototypes are often required in numerous industrial applications. These components are typically needed in the early stage of a project to determine form, fit and function. Recent R/P(Rapid Prototyping) part are made of soft materials such as plastics, wax, paper, these master models cannot be employed durable test in real harsh working environment. Parts by direct metal rapid tooling method, such as laser sintering, by now are hard to get net shape, pores of the green parts of powder casting method must be infiltrated to get proper strength as tool, and new type of 3D direct tooling system combining fabrication welding arc and cutting process is reported by song etc. But a system which can build directly 3D parts of high performance functional material as metal part would need long period of system development, massive investment and other serious obstacles, such as patent. In this paper, through the rapid tooling process as silicon rubber molding using R/P master model, and fabricate wax pattern in that silicon rubber mold using vacuum casting method, then we tranlsated the wax patterns to numerous metal prototypes by new investment casting process combined conventional investment casting with rapid pototyping & rapid tooling process. with this wax-injection-mold-free investment casting, we developed new investment casting process of fabricating numerous functional metal prototypes from one master model, combined 3-D CAD, R/P and conventional investment casting and tried to expect net shape measuring total dimension shrinkage from R/P part to metal part.

  • The accuracy of master cast reproduction by a polyvinylsiloxane impression material using two visible-light curing resin and autopolymerizing polymethyl methacrylate resin custom tray material was investigated. Custom trays were fabricated from a master cast that had three index points marked on both inner and outer vestibules and then poured in yellow stone. The distance between the reproduced index points were measured to be ${\pm}0.001mm$ with a measuring microscope and the algebraic norms calculated for each tray material. No differences were found in the algebraic norms of inner and outer dimensions for upper tray impressions by ANOVA(p>0.05). However, T-test revealed that there were differences between upper and lower impressions and Tukey's hsd test revealed that in lower tray impressions, the Palatray in inner, the Lightplast in outer dimensions respectively were different from other materials. The index points reproduced on the casts compared with the master cast, were closer together for upper tray impressions. All four tray materials produced acceptable casts, 1. Algebraic norms of inner and outer dimensions of the test casts for upper trays were not statistically different irrespective of materials.(P>0.05) 2. T-test showed that there were differences between means with upper and lower trays especially in outer dimension.(P>0.05) 3. But, algebraic norms of inner and outer dimensions of the test casts for lower trays were statistically different between materials. 4. Palatray XL in inner, Lightplast-platten in outer dimensions respectively for lower trays were different from other materials, but, the nearest to the original model.
