  • This parer was presented for the experimental results of torsional vibrations of the horizontal rotating shaft with three disks. The torsional vibrations meter used is a laser system for non-contact measurement of torsional angular vibration velocity and torsional angular vibration displacement. The distance between the disks war changed; the one that had 76mm of disk distance war called basic model, and another that had 106mm of disk distance wide model, and other that had 46mm of disk distance narrow model. In each model, outer diameter of disk was 40mm. And 45mm, or 50mm was also used to extend the effective range of frequencies. The angula vibration displacement and the angular vibration velocity in its torsional vibration were measured to obtain the stable and the unstable regions.

  • Clouds play an important role in climate change, in the prediction of local weather, and also in aviation safety when instrument assisted flying is unavailable. Presently, various ground-based instruments used for the measurements of the cloud base height or velocity. Lidar techniques are powerful and have many applications in climate studies, including the clouds' temperature measurement, the aerosol particle properties, etc. Otherwise, it is very circumscribed in cloud velocity measurements because there is no Doppler effect if the clouds move in the perpendicular direction to the laser beam path of Doppler lidar. In this paper, we present a method for the measurement of cloud velocity using lidar's range detection and DIC (Digital Image Correlation) system to overcome the disadvantage of Doppler lidar. The lidar system acquires the distance to the cloud, and the cloud images are tracked using the developed fast correlation algorithm of DIC. We acquired the velocities of clouds using the calculated distance and DIC algorithm. The measurement values had a linear distribution.

  • In this study, a new algorithm for measuring the velocity and distance from a camera to a moving object by using pseudo-stereo images obtained from a single camera with a stereo adapter is proposed. The proposed system is similar to a parallel visual stereo system using a two-camera system, but because this system can obtain pseudo-stereo images form a single camera, it has advantages not only in the aspect of cost but also in stereo conformity by arrangement and the calibration of the left and right stereo cameras upon image processing.

  • Unrestricted measurement method of three-dimensional walking distance utilizing body acceleration and terrestrial magnetism is discussed. The three-dimensional walking distance is derived by the integration of the three dimensional acceleration of foot during swing phase. Since the sensor system attached on the foot rotates during swing phase, the acceleration data measured on the foot include acceleration of gravity which causes inaccurate calculation of the velocity and the distance. Three gyros are used to compensate the rotation of the sensor system. Moreover, one geomagnetic sensor is employed to derive the heading direction of the subject Healthy volunteers performed ...

  • In this paper, the moving distance and velocity of a single moving object are measured by sampling three frames in a two-dimensional line sequence image. The brightness of each frame is analyzed, and the bit data of their pixel are rearranged so that the difference image may be extracted. The parameters for recognition of the object are the gray level of the object, the number of vertex points and the distance between the vertex points. The moving distance obtained from the coordinate which is constructed by the bit processing of the data in the memory map of a microcomputer, and the moving velocity is obtained from the moving distance and the time interval between the first and second sampled frames.

  • Kinematic GPS provides quite good accuracy of position in cm level. Though K-GPS assures high precision measurement in cm level on the basis of an appreciable distance between a station and an observational point, but it has measurable distance restriction within 20 km from a reference station on land. So it is necessary to make out a simple and low-cost method to obtain accurate positioning information without distance restriction. In this paper, the velocity integration method to get the precise velocity information of ship is explained. Next two experimental results (Zig-zag maneuvering test and Williamson turn) as the ship's maneuvering test and also the experimental results of leaving and entering port as slow speed ship's movement were shown. In these experimental results, ship's course, speed and position are compared with those obtained by kinematic-GPS, velocity integration method and dead reckoning position using Gyro-compass and Doppler-log.

  • A model trains must have similitude with its original model not only in shape but also in motion. Motion characteristics of a model train under considerations are maximum velocity in straight and circular tracks and stopping distance. Equations of motions are derived to obtain maximum speed and stopping distance based on the Newton's Second Law and the energy principal. To accurately predict traction and resistance force between wheel and rail. wheel slip, or creepage, is taken into consideration. To verify the equations of motion, various experiments have been carried out including measurement of gear efficiency, location of mass center, rolling resistance force, traction force, slip, maximum velocity and stopping distance. This paper addresses how the experiments are setup and carried out in detail. Also the results of experiments are compared with the analytical prediction, which showed good agreements with each other.

  • This paper suggests fur the study on a fluid velocity measuring system using ultrasonic transducer. In general, the time difference method to measure the distance between transducers has been known. In this paper, the practical technology for manufacturing ultrasonic flow meter system is studied using the time difference method. The ultrasonic transducer was designed and manufactured. The transmission and receiving algorithm for ultrasonic signal was studied. The ultrasonic flow measuring system was experimented in laboratory using a water reservoir for verifying the distance measuring accuracy. Finally, it was tested in flow calibration laboratory for the velocity measuring performance. The system, designed in this study, showed 0.3 mm resolution in distance measurement. For precise flow measurement, a high speed triggering algorithm is required for ultrasonic signal receiving.

  • A new procedure for the advanced one-side measurement of longitudinal wave and surface wave velocities in concrete is presented in this paper. Stress waves are generated in a consistent fashion with a DC solenoid. Two piezoelectric accelerometers are mounted on the surface of a specimen as receivers. Stress waves propagate along the surface of the specimen and are detected by the receivers. In order to reduce the large incoherent noise levels of the signals, signals are collected and manipulated by a computer program for each velocity measurement. For a known distance between the two receivers and using the measured flight times, the velocities of the longitudinal wave and the surface wave are measured. The velocities of the longitudinal wave determined by this method are compared with those measured by conventional methods on concrete, PMMA and steel.
