  • It is usual for energy consumption in accordance with facing and sitting direction of tower-type apartments to be calculated by the official statistics or computer simulation. Previous studies for energy consumption appear to be very limited due to the dependence on flat type of apartment. Acknowledging these constraints, an empirical study for a tower type apartment was conducted to demonstrate how a on-site indoor temperature measurement in spring can be used to assist in estimating the total energy consumption in terms of facing and sitting orientation specific settings. The results indicate that maximum temperature difference in spring was identified as $1.16^{\circ}C$ between south and eastern direction. It is known that raising $1^{\circ}C$ indoor temperature require 7% more energy consumption than normal. The $1.16^{\circ}C$ difference means that sitting direction of tower type apartment is a crucial explanatory variable as unit of analysis for energy consumption. It was demonstrated that the indoor temperature could be used effectively as an indicator to estimate energy consumption among various sitting direction of tower type apartments. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference to support more scientific and objective decision-making for facing and sitting orientation of tower type apartments.

  • Despite the abundant literature in the field, there is still the need to find a time-efficient, highly accurate, easy to deploy and robust localization algorithm for real use. The algorithm only involves minimal human intervention. We propose an enhanced Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) based positioning algorithm for Wi-Fi capable devices, called the Dynamic Weighted Evolution for Location Tracking (DWELT). Due to the multiple phenomena affecting the propagation of radio signals, RSSI measurements show fluctuations that hinder the utilization of straightforward positioning mechanisms from widely known propagation loss models. Instead, DWELT uses data processing of raw RSSI values and applies a weighted posterior-probabilistic evolution for quick convergence of localization and tracking. In this paper, we present the first implementation of DWELT, intended for 1D location (applicable to tunnels or corridors), and the first step towards a more generic implementation. Simulations and experiments show an accuracy of 1m in more than 81% of the cases, and less than 2m in the 95%.

  • Stress distribution on mandibular implants supporting overdentures were registered in vitro experimental model by means of 4 rosette gauges which were placed around the implant. The overdenture attachments used in this study were the Resilient Dolder bar, Rigid Bolder bar, Round bar, Hader bar & Dal-Ro attachment. An occlusal jig was placed on the overdenture and the loading sites were 3 points which mimicked working, balancing, and median relations. With 5 and 10kg loading, strains were measured by strain indicator(P-3500, Measurement group, Raleigh, USA), and using these data, maximum and minimum principal stresses and Von Mises stress were calculated and evaluated. The results were as follows : There was a tendency of high stress concentration in the lingual side of the implant, and in the buccal side low stress was developed regardless of the attachment systems. The resilient Bolder bar concentrated highest stress among the attachment systems, and the Round bar and the Dal-Ro attachment provided comparatively low stresses around the implant. The rigid Bolder bar concentrated high stress in the mesial side, and the Dal-Ro attachment developed tensile stress patterns in the lingual and distal sides of the implant at the balancing relation.

  • To analyze the flow distribution formed by multiple acoustic sources, the distribution of acoustic streaming speed caused by an ultrasonic transducer composed of two identical piezoelectric vibrators was examined for various angles between the sound sources. In order to measure the distribution of the speed along the acoustic axis of the transducer, a simple measurement method using a droplet indicator having density similar to that of water is suggested. The simulation results calculated by a numerical method and experimental results showed a similar tendency, and the change of flow speed distribution with the intersection angle between acoustic beams radiated from two acoustic sources was analyzed.

  • The measurements of the moderator temperature coefficient (MTC) are performed to demonstrate that the calculational model produces results that are consistent with the measurements. Since negative MTC is also a technical specification value that may limit the cycle length, it is important to measure it as accurately as possible. In this report, preferred choice of test method depending on the time in cycle, best power indication and temperature definition in MTC calculation were determined based on the MTC test results taken during initial startup testing and at 2/3 cycle burnup in the Yonggwang nuclear power plant. The results show that the ratio and rodded methods provided good agreement with the predictions during initial startup testing. However, near end-of-cycle the depletion method gives better results, and so is suggested to be used in the MTC measurements at 2/3 cycle burnup. The use of primary Delta T power as a power indicator in the MTC calculations is highly advisable since it responds with good consistent results very quickly to changes unlike secondary calorimetric power. For the appropriate temperature definitions used in the MTC calculations, it is considered that the arithmetic average temperature measured simply by inlet and outlet thermocouples is preferred. Although volumetric average temperature provides better results, the improvement is not sufficient to compensate for the simplicity of calculations by arithmetic average temperature.

  • This paper describes a system for location tracking wireless sensor nodes in an indoor environment. The sensor reading used for the location estimation is the received signal strength indication (RSSI) as given by an RF interface. By tagging users with a mobile node and deploying a number of reference nodes at fixed position in the room, the received signal strength indicator can be used to determine the position of tagged users. The system combines Euclidean distance technique with signal strength obtained by measurement driven log-normal path loss model of 2.4 GHz wireless channel. The experimental results demonstrated the ability of this system to estimate the location with a error less than 1.3m.

  • Model food containing common salt(NaCl) was subjected to the thermoluminescene(TL) detection whether it is irradiated or not. Salt irradiated with $^60Co$-gamma ray and electron beam exhibited a characteristic TL gowcurve depending on the irradiation dose, showing major peaks at $206^{\circ}C$ and $326^{\circ}C$. The intensity of TL glowcurves was directly proportional to the irradiated doses regardless of irradiation sources at each concentration of salt. A high correlation coefficient was observed for irradiated salt between the irradiation doses and the corresponding TL responses. At the same dose, the intensity of TL glowcurve increased as the concentration of salt increased in the test sample. TL glowcurves of nonirradiated salt and irradiated model food without salt were negligible and similar to a baseline . However, irradiated model food containing salt gave rise to a characteristic TL glowcurve with two major peaks at about $240^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$, respectively. The results showed that salt played a role as an internla as well as external indicator in TL measurements, indicating that TL will be applicable to other condiments and spices with salt for their detection whether they are irradiated or not.

  • In this paper, we propose a sensorless multi-function controller applicable for deep well water pumps using current detection method. The proposed system overcomes various drawbacks of existing sensored system and additional features like Over current protection function due to overload, Under current protection function for idling at low water level and Relay function for starting single phase motors and acts as a level indicator to detect water lever in real time by the current detection method. A prototype of the multi-function controller system is designed and all of its functions are tested in the laboratory. The application of the proposed controller ensures reduction in the power consumption and maintenance cost in the facilities like water and septic tanks, drainage and waste water system, oil and chemical tanks where deep well pumps are used.
