The Influences of Work-family Conflict and Sex-role Identity on Married Female Teacher's Job Involvement

  • This study investigated if and how work-family conflict and sex-role identity influence married female teachers' job involvement. The results of this study follow. First, married female teachers in the high work-family conflict group showed lower job involvement than that of those in the low work-family conflict group. The mean difference of job involvement between the high and low work-family conflict groups was not statistically significant. Second, the married female teachers with an Androgynous sex-role identity showed higher job involvement than those with a Feminine sex-role identity. Finally, the job involvement of Androgynous married female teachers was damaged less under high work-family conflict situations than that of Feminine married female teachers. These results imply that to increase married female teachers' job involvement, the improvement of physical/environmental conditions and psychological changes for women are necessary.

The Prosodic Characteristics of Pre-school Age Children-Related Adults (학령전기아동 관련 성인의 운율 특성)

  • This study presents the prosodic characteristics of 'Motherese' and 'Teacherese (child care teacher and kindergarten teacher)'. 21 mothers and 24 teachers spoke to children in the child care center or kindergarten. Children are in their 4;00-6;11. Speech and articulation rate, number of accentual phrases (APs), number of intonational phrases (IPs), pitch-related factors (f0, pitch range, f0 standard deviation), and intonation slope (mean Absolute, f0, q-tone slope) were measured. 2 groups spoke 2 sentential types (interrogative_ alternative question, declarative_ coordinated sentence) in 2 situations (one accompanied with the children, the other done without children, but pretending as if they were in front of the children). The results indicate that teachers show more noticeable prosodic characteristics than mothers do.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the state and problems on sex education of junior & senior high schools in Taegu city & Kyungbuk province and then to try to find the solutions. This article is consisted of four parts: the present state of sex education, how to improve sex education, the problems of teacher training and the actual condition of educational materials for that. The item of questionnaires was analyzed by SAS-PC program. the results are marked with frequency, percentage, mean and $\chi$$^2$(chi-square). For effective and better sex education in high schools, development & distribution of various audio-visual teaching material, and systematic & correlative arrangement of educational contents are to be first requisite. Concerning about the teacher training it is needed that to establish the standard o general management and equipment of instruction system.

The sex difference in infants' verbal and nonverbal interactions with their teacher and peers (보육시설내 성별에 따른 영아와 교사 및 또래간의 사회적 상호작용)

  • This study investigated the difference between infant verbal and nonverbal interactions with a partner (teacher or peer). The subjects were 20 two-year-old infants 00 boys and 10 girls, mean age 31.3 months). Verbal and nonverbal interactions were videotaped during one hour of indoor free play per child in the Center. In verbal interaction, (1) boys spoke to themselves more than girls did, and (2) girls gave orders (imperatives, requests, and prohibitions) to peers and teachers more than boys did. In non-verbal interactions, (1) girls nodded to teachers more than boys did, (2) boys came closer to peers more than girls did, and (3) girls refused by gestures to peers more than boys did. In conclusion, the majority of the boys could be classified as peer-oriented and physically active in their interactions.

  • This study designed, implemented, and evaluated a Biblio-Counseling program for elementary school children. Procedures included 20 60-minute sessions by counselor, 18 20-minute sessions in class by teacher, and 5 20-minute sessions at home by parents. The program was administered to 23 third grade elementary school children. Data were analyzed by frequency, mean, and paired t-test, using SPSS program packages. Results showed significant before and after differences in the degree of self-esteem. Besides, the children reported increased positive expression in class and decreased peer neglect and rejection at school. Children, parents and teacher expressed high satisfaction with the program. These results suggest that the multi-faceted approach as designed and implemented in this study is effective in promoting self-esteem, interpersonal growth, and relationship between child and parents.

A kernel machine for estimation of mean and volatility functions

  • We propose a doubly penalized kernel machine (DPKM) which uses heteroscedastic location-scale model as basic model and estimates both mean and volatility functions simultaneously by kernel machines. We also present the model selection method which employs the generalized approximate cross validation techniques for choosing the hyperparameters which affect the performance of DPKM. Artificial examples are provided to indicate the usefulness of DPKM for the mean and volatility functions estimation.

Concerns of Home Economics Teachers on Ohio's Work and Family Life Curriculum (미국 오하이오주의 실천적 문제 중심 모형을 적용한“일과 가족생활 교육과정”에 대한 가정과 교사의 관심도)

  • The objective of this study were 1) to determine the stages of concern of HE teachers about the practical problem-based curriculum approach, as illustrated by the Ohio's Work and Family Life Curriculum (W&FLC); 2) to determine the relationships between home economics (HE) teacher's stages of concern about W&FLC and personal and professional characteristics of HE teachers; and 3) to determine aspects of interest about the practical problem-based curriculum approach, such as the Ohio W&FLC. Respondents in this study were 225 HE teachers. The data were collected during the in-service teacher training sessions after presentation about W&FLC. Concerns Based Adoption Model (CBAM) was modified to provide a conceptual framework for this study. Frequencies, SD, mean, mode, range were used to determine the stages of concern of HE teachers. To determine the relationships between stages of concerns and personal and professional characteristics of HE teachers, coefficient of Chi-Square contingency tables was used. Content analysis was used to determine aspects of interest about the practical problem-bsed curriculum approach, such as W&FLC. The median of the stages of HE teachers' concerns about W&FLC was Stage 1, Information Stage. About 60% of HE teachers were interested in learning more details about W&FLC. Chi-square revealed no statistically significant relationships between stages of concerns about W&FLC and characteristics of HE teachers. Content analysis was used to determine aspects of interest about W&FLC of HE teachers. Nine categories were found: content, teaching strategies, implementation of the curriculum, philosophical framework, how to adopt W&FLC, resource materials, students' outcomes, in-service teacher training, and HE teacher organization. The majority of HE teachers were interested in relationships with family and others, resource management, family relationships, personal development, communication skill, family life, creating a self-identity, life planning, roles of family members, homemaking management, child care, and parenting.

Elementary School Students' Perception of Mathematics Classroom Quality (수학 수업의 질에 대한 초등학교 학생들의 인식)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of teacher's mathematical belief and student's mathematical performance, sex on the perception of mathematics classroom quality. And this study also detailed the relation between self-directed learning attitude and perception of mathematics classroom quality. For this purpose, this study used 'Students Perception of Mathematics Classroom Quality(SPOCQ)' as an instrument. This instrument focuses on appeal, challenge, choice, meaningfulness, self-efficacy. The 430 5th and 6th grade elementary school students were included in sample. The results obtained in this research are as follows; First, there was a significant difference in the perception of mathematics classroom quality between positive mathematical belief teacher's group and negative mathematical belief teacher's group. So, teacher's mathematical belief influence on the students' perception of mathematics classroom quality. Second, there was a significant difference according to the student's mathematical performance and sex. The students of high mathematical performance usually had positive perception of mathematics classroom quality and the male students also had higher mean than female students. Third, there was positive correlation between self-directed learning attitude and perception of mathematics classroom quality.

  • This paper introduces and implements a Sound Event Detection (SED) system based on weakly-supervised learning where only part of the data is labeled, and analyzes the effect of parameters. The SED system estimates the classes and onset/offset times of events in the acoustic signal. In order to train the model, all information on the event class and onset/offset times must be provided. Unfortunately, the onset/offset times are hard to be labeled exactly. Therefore, in the weakly-supervised task, the SED model is trained by "strongly labeled data" including the event class and activations, "weakly labeled data" including the event class, and "unlabeled data" without any label. Recently, the SED systems using the mean-teacher model are widely used for the task with several parameters. These parameters should be chosen carefully because they may affect the performance. In this paper, performance analysis was performed on parameters, such as the feature, moving average parameter, weight of the consistency cost function, ramp-up length, and maximum learning rate, using the data of DCASE 2020 Task 4. Effects and the optimal values of the parameters were discussed.

Kidney Tumor Segmentation through Semi-supervised Learning Based on Mean Teacher Using Kidney Local Guided Map in Abdominal CT Images (복부 CT 영상에서 신장 로컬 가이드 맵을 활용한 평균-교사 모델 기반의 준지도학습을 통한 신장 종양 분할)

  • Accurate segmentation of the kidney tumor is necessary to identify shape, location and safety margin of tumor in abdominal CT images for surgical planning before renal partial nephrectomy. However, kidney tumor segmentation is challenging task due to the various sizes and locations of the tumor for each patient and signal intensity similarity to surrounding organs such as intestine and spleen. In this paper, we propose a semi-supervised learning-based mean teacher network that utilizes both labeled and unlabeled data using a kidney local guided map including kidney local information to segment small-sized kidney tumors occurring at various locations in the kidney, and analyze the performance according to the kidney tumor size. As a result of the study, the proposed method showed an F1-score of 75.24% by considering local information of the kidney using a kidney local guide map to locate the tumor existing around the kidney. In particular, under-segmentation of small-sized tumors which are difficult to segment was improved, and showed a 13.9%p higher F1-score even though it used a smaller amount of labeled data than nnU-Net.
