The theoretical treatments on jets, in which the flow is issuing into a stagnant medium, have been based on Prandtl's mixing theory. In this study, using Prandtl's mixing length hypothesis, a theoretical relationship for the velocity profile of a single round jet is derived. Furthermore, Gaussian expression is used to approximate the theoretical relationship, in which the Gaussian coefficient is assumed to be decreasing exponentially as the flow goes far from the orifice. Two data sets for a single round jet performed by tow different techniques of measurement are used to verify the suggested relationships. The theoretical and Gaussian distribution give close results in spite of the difference in approach. The observed mean velocity distributions are in good agreements with the suggested theoretical and Gaussian distributions.
The chlorine's residual concentration prevents the regrowth of microorganism in water transport along the pipeline system. Precise prediction of chlorine concentration is important in determining disinfectant injection for the water distribution system. In this study, a pilot scale water distribution system was designed and fabricated to measure the temporal variation of chlorine concentration for three flow conditions (V = 0.88, 1.33, 1.95 m/s). Various kinetic models were applied to identify the relationship between hydraulic condition and chlorine decay. Genetic Algorithm (GA) was integrated into five kinetic models and time series of chlorine were used to calibrate parameters. Model fitness was compared by Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) between measurement and prediction. Limited first order model and Parallel first order showed good fitness for prediction of chlorine concentration.
Because of good performance of heat transfer characteristics, impinging jets are widely used in many industries for cooling or heating. And the present num erical studies attempt to show the effects of impinging jet. This paper considers the application of the turbulent models to impinging jet flow with pulsed inlet. It is assumed two-dimensional turbulent flows. The jet Reynolds num ber is set at 23,000 and the distance from the exit of the nozzle to the plate is 3 times larger than the diam eter of the nozzle. The influence of the Strouhal num ber(pulsation frequency) on Nusselt number at the impinging region is investigated. Strouhal numbers are ranged 0.0 to 0.5 and the forcing amplitudes are 1%,5%,9% of mean inlet velocity. In this study, the Nusselt number at the impinging region is sensitive to the pulsation frequency. Heat transfer coefficient strongly increase at Strouhal num ber of 0.4.

This study aimed to estimate applicability of a model to simulate circulation in estuarine lake caused by operation of drainage gates. The model consists of 2D (depth-averaged) hydrodynamic models, Delft3D-FLOW model and operation model for drainage gates. The flow through drainage gates was calculated using weir formulae with discharge coefficient, 0.8. The simulations are performed under two conditions: uncontrolled condition and controlled by periods of two days. The results on simulation of the model showed that the water level in estuarine lake was tend to increase above mean sea level. Therefore it was proved that the calibration and verification were needed in order to applicate this model for Saemankeum area.

Single phase and condensation heat transfer characteristics of ammonia in a horizontal tube have been investigated experimentally The horizontal test section is composed of smooth SUS316 tube for refrigerant flow, surrounding annulus for water flow, and temperature and Pressure measuring sensors. For single phase test, subcooled ammonia mass flux was varied from 320 to 501 kg/mrs and temperature was varied from 18 to $47^{\circ}C$. For condensation test, mass flux and saturation temperature were varied from 86 to 128 kg/$m^2$s and 34 to $47^{\circ}C$, respectively. The equations of Gnielinski Soliman et al., Traviss et at., Cavallini and Zecchin, Shah, Chen et al., Tandon et al., and Chilli and Anand were compared with the experimental data. New correlations are proposed based on the experimental results and the absolute mean deviation of the experimental data becomes 1.0% for single phase test and 4.9% for condensation test.

In the present study, the effect of blade rotation on blade heat transfer is investigated by comparing with the heat transfer results for the stationary blade. The experiments are conducted in a low speed annular cascade with a single stage turbine and the turbine stage is composed of sixteen guide vanes and blades. The chord length and the height of the tested blade are 150 mm and about 125 mm, respectively. The blade has a flat tip and the mean tip clearance is 2.5% of the blade chord. A naphthalene sublimation method is used to measure detailed mass transfer coefficient on the blade. For the experiments, the inlet Reynolds number is $Re_c=1.5{\times}10^5$, which results in the blade rotation speed of 255.8 rpm. Blade rotation induces a relative motion between the blade and the shroud as well as a periodic variation of incoming flow. Therefore, different heat/mass transfer patterns are observed on the rotating blade, especially near the tip and on the tip. The relative motion reduces the tip leakage flow through the tip gap, which results in the reduction of the tip heat transfer. However, the effect of the tip leakage flow on the blade surface is increased because the tip leakage vortex is formed closer to the surface than the stationary case. The overall heat/mass transfer on the shroud is not affected much by the blade rotation.

The present study investigated local heat/mass transfer characteristics on the tip of the rotating turbine blade with various incoming flow incidence angles. The experiments are conducted in a low speed annular cascade with a single stage turbine. The blade has a flat tip with a mean tip clearance of 2.5% of the blade chord. The incoming flow Reynolds number is $1.5{\times}10^5$ at design condition. To examine the effect of off-design condition, the experiments with various incidence angles ranging between $-15^{\circ}$ and $+7{\circ}$ were conducted. A naphthalene sublimation method is used to measure detailed mass transfer coefficient on the blade. The results indicated that the incidence angle strongly affects the behavior of tip leakage flow around the blade tip and consequently plays an important role in determining heat transfer characteristics on the tip. For negative incidence angles, the heat/mass transfer in the upstream region on the tip decreases by up to 20%. On the contrary, for positive incidence angles, much higher heat transfer coefficients are observed even with small increase of incidence angle.

In the mountain streams in Jeju Island, strong turbulence and roughness usually made it nearly impossible to utilize most of intrusive instrumentation for streamflow discharge measurements. Instead, a non-intrusive fixed electro-magnetic wave surface velocimetry (fixed EWSV: Kalesto) became alternatively popular in many representative streams to measure stream discharge seamlessly. Currently, Kalesto has shown noteworthy performance with little loss in flood discharge measurements and also has successfully provided discharge for every minute. However, Kalesto has been operated to regard its measured one-point velocity as the representative mean velocity for the given cross-section. Therefore, it could be highly possible to potentially encompass discharge measurements errors. In this study, we analyzed the difference between such Kalesto discharge measurements and other alternative concurrent discharge measurements such as Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and mobile EWSV which were able to measure velocity in multi-points in the cross-section. Consequently, Kalesto discharge deviated from ADCP discharge in amount of 48% for relatively low flow, and more than 20% difference for high flow compared with mobile EWSV discharge measurements. These results indicated that the one-point velocity measured by Kalesto should be used as a cross-sectional mean velocity, rather it should be accounted for as an index-velocity in conjunction with directly measured cross-sectional mean velocity by using more reliable instrumentations. After inducing Kalesto Discharge Correction Coefficient (KDCC) that actually means relationship between index velocity and cross-sectional mean velocity, the corrected discharge from Kalesto was significantly improved. Therefore, we found that index velocity method should be applied to obtain better accuracy of discharge measurement in case of Kalesto operation.
This study presents the alteration of flow regime by effects of dams and water use in the Geum River Basin. The surface water use rate and the Impounded Runoff (IR) index were examined to assess the pressure indicators of the flow alteration. We applied the flow duration curve, flow regime coefficient, flood and low-flow frequency analysis as well as Range of Variability Approach (RVA) to investigate the quantitative changes in natural flow regimes. The results indicate that the high flow decreased and low flow increased respectively compared to the natural flow regimes at eight gauging stations. The Geum river is regulated by 139 dams and reservoirs storing 24% of the annual mean discharge and has high surface water use rate of 36%. These indicators are main pressure factors to alter flow regimes.
