  • The Maxwell equation and the transformer equivalent-circuit model are applied to a radio frequency planar inductively coupled plasma. The spatial distribution of the vector potential, the magnetic field, and the electric field are obtained analytically. As a result, the plasma current, the mutual inductance between the coil and the plasma, and the self inductance of plasma are found to increase with increasing skin depth. The spatial distribution of absorbed power has maximum where the antenna coil exists, and has a similar profile to that of the induced electric field. The power transfer efficiency is found to increase with increasing gas pressure before a saturation around p+ 20mTorr, while it shows an increase with the plasma density before a slight decrease around a density of $5\times10^{11}/\textrm{cm}^3$.

  • Agricultural materials do not react in a purely elastic manner, and their responses when subjected to stress and strain are appeared from a combination of elastic and viscous behavior. Various researchers have studied the mechanical and rheological properties of the many agricultural materials, but those properties are available mostly foreign varieties of agricultural products. Rheological properties of rice seedlings become important to formulate the principles governing their mechanical behavior. The objectives of this study were to experimentally determine the stress relaxation properties of rice seedlings such as three Japonica-type and one Indica ${\times}$ Japonica hybrid in the transplanting age. The results of this study are summarized as follows; 1. The stress relaxation behavior could be described by the generalized Maxwell model. 2. The phenomenon of stress relaxation happened abruptly just after loading and this phenomenon weakened with the loading time lapsed. 3. With increase of the initial stress, the stress relaxation intensity and residual stress increased, while the relaxation time was constant with increased, while the relaxation time was constant with increase of the level of initial stress. 4. With increase of loading rate, the stress relaxation intensity increased, while the relaxation time and residual stress decreased.

  • In this article, an exact analytical solution for mechanical buckling analysis of magnetoelectroelastic plate resting on pasternak foundation is investigated based on the third-order shear deformation plate theory. The in-plane electric and magnetic fields can be ignored for plates. According to Maxwell equation and magnetoelectric boundary condition, the variation of electric and magnetic potentials along the thickness direction of the plate is determined. The von Karman model is exploited to capture the effect of nonlinearity. Navier's approach has been used to solve the governing equations for all edges simply supported boundary conditions. Numerical results reveal the effects of (i) lateral load, (ii) electric load, (iii) magnetic load and (iv) higher order shear deformation theory on the critical buckling load have been investigated. These results must be the analysis of intelligent structures constructed from magnetoelectroelastic materials.

  • An analysis using FEM simulation was conducted to predict residual stresses and birefringence in simple compressed cylindrical glass as a preliminary part of the optimum design determination of optical lenses. The FEM simulation with the Maxwell viscoelastic constitutive model was used to predict thermal induced residual stresses and birefringence during the compression test considering stress relaxation. Also the linear photoelastic theory was introduced to calculate birefringence from the residual stress state. The simulation results were in good agreement with deformation and birefringence distribution in the existing experimental result.

  • Maxwell displacement current (MDC) measurement has been employed to study the dielectric property of Langmuir-films. A method for determining the dielectric relaxation time $\tau$ of floating monolayers on water surface is presented. WC flowing across monolayers is analyzed using a rod-like molecular model. It is revealed that the dielectric relaxation time $\tau$ of monolayers in the isotropic polar orientational phase is determined using a liner relationship between the monolayer compression speed ${\alpha}$ and the molecular area Am. Compression speed ${\alpha}$ was about 30, 40, 50mm/min.

  • In this paper, we study the optimal design for improved rotation latch system performance. The factors affecting the Torque generated in the armature were chosen as design variables. Utilizing the vertical matrix, the orthogonal array table was created to predict the results through minimal analysis. To confirm the Torque generation amount, by utilizing the commercial electromagnetic analysis software MAXWELL, finite element analysis was performed. The approximation method and experimental design through the commercial PIDO tool PIAnO for optimal design and calculations were utilized to perform experiments using an optimization method with evolutionary algorithms. Using the approximation model, design factors were determined that can maximize the torque generated in the armature, and the simulation was performed.

  • A modeling technique for the 2-way coupling of heat transfer and conduction currents has been performed to inspire a combined analytical simulation. The 3-D finite element method is used to solve steady conduction currents and heat generation in an aluminum film deposited on a silicon substrate. The model investigates the temperature in the device after the current is applied. The conservation equation of energy, the Maxwell equations for conduction currents, the unsteady state heat transfer equation and the Fourier's law for heat transfer are implemented as a bidirectionally coupled problem. It is found that the strongly coupled temperature and time dependent heat equations give a reasonable results and an explicit solving technique.

  • An orifices fluid damper(OFD) having the capacity of about 2 tons was designed and fabricated and applied to a 6-story steel structure under random excitation and seismic excitation for the confirmation of its validity on structural vibration absorbtion. The experimental results demonstrated that the addition of an OFD to the test structure is very effective in reduction of vibration level of the higher modes as well as the fundamental mode. Maxwell model was adopted to described the frequency-dependent characteristics of the fabricated OFD and the numerical simulation was carried for the test structure. It was confirmed that the experimental and numerically simulated results agree well.

  • A numerical analysis is conducted on heat transfer and fluid flow of a plasma spraying process under the DC-RE hybrid electromagnetic field. Plasma flow is analyzed by using Eulerian approach and the equation of particle motion is simultaneously solved using a trajectory analysis with a lumped-heat-capacity model. Axisymmetric two dimensional electromagnetic fields governed by Maxwell's equations are solved based on a vector potential concept. The effects of the RF electromagnetic field on the temperature and velocity fields of the turbulent plasma flow are clarified. Control characteristics of phase changes and dispersed features of particles by applying the RF electromagnetic field are also clarified in an attempt to improve the plasma spraying process

  • We developed a computer program to simulate the flow field in the presence of electro-magnetic fields. The steady, two-dimensional conservation equations for mass and momentum were solved simultaneously with Maxwell equations for electro-magnetic fields. Using this program, a numerical analysis was carried out to analyze the fluid flow in the continuous casting mold with electromagnetic brake. The effects of magnetic fields size, nozzle angle and EMBR yoke position on the flow fields in the continuous casting were investigated in the present study. The flow fields with EMBR were compared with those without EMBR. We also investigated the distribution of tracer concentration as a function of time in order to calculate their residence time in the mold with EMBR. By controlling the flow fields properly using EMBR, we can prevent the direct flow impaction on the wall which can give a damage on the mold surface and reduce surface defects of stainless steel sheet products.
