This paper describes an energy harvesting circuit using solar and vibration energy with MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) control for micro sensor nodes. The designed circuit employs MPPT control to harvest maximum power available from a PZT vibration element and an integrated solar cell. The harvested energies are simultaneously combined and stored in a storage capacitor, and then managed and transferred into sensor node by PMU(Power Management Unit). MPPT controls are implemented using the linear relationship between the open-circuit voltage of an energy transducer and its MPP(Maximum Power Point) voltage. The proposed circuit is designed in a CMOS 0.18um technology and its functionality has been verified through extensive simulations. The designed energy harvesting circuit and integrated solar cell occupy $2.85mm^2$ and $8mm^2$ respectively.
In this paper, the effective capacity of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system in two different cases with receive antenna selection (RAS) and transmit antenna selection (TAS) schemes is investigated. A closed-form solution for the maximum constant arrival rate of this network with statistical delay quality of service (QoS) constraint is extracted in the quasi-static fading channel. This study is conducted in two different cases. When channel state information (CSI) is not available at the MIMO transmitter, implementation of TAS is difficult. Therefore, RAS scheme is employed and one antenna with the maximum instantaneous signal to noise ratio is chosen at the receiver. On the other hand, when CSI is available at the transmitter, TAS scheme is executed. In this case, one antenna is selected at the transmitter. Moreover, an optimal power-control policy is applied to the selected antenna and the effective capacity of the MIMO system is derived. Finally, this optimal power adaptation and the effective capacity are investigated in two asymptotic cases with the loose and strict QoS requirements. In particular, we show that in the TAS scheme with the loose QoS restriction, the effective capacity converges to the ergodic capacity. Then, an exact closed-form solution is obtained for the ergodic capacity of the channel here.

As automotive diesel engines adopt the direct injection method for a lower level of the exhaust emission and a higher fuel efficiency, the maximum temperature of engine coolant decreases. Consequently, the total available heat source from the engine coolant decreases over 35%. However, the heating source of air-conditioning system in automobiles depends on the hot engine coolant completely, so that it is nearly impossible to control air conditioning in heating season. Therefore, the present study has been carried out to develop the air conditioning system for the high efficient heat pump type using the HFC-134a. Especially, the air conditioning system of heating has been developed at a beginning stage, when it has low heat source from small and medium sized diesel recreation vehicles. To develop a control logic system for air conditioning system which is a heat pump type with a heat recovery exchanger, its cycle characteristics has been investigated according to the opening of LEV at a bench system.

To compensate for the motion errors in hydrostatic tables, a method to actively control the clearance of a bearing corresponding to the amount of error using actively controlled capillaries is introduced in this paper. The design method for an actively controlled capillary that considers the output rate of a piezo actuator and the amount of error that must be corrected is described. The basic characteristics of such a system were tested, such as the maximum controllable range of the error, micro-step response, and available dynamic bandwidth when the capillary was installed in a hydrostatic table. The tests demonstrated that the maximum controllable range was $2.4\;{\mu}m$, the resolution was 27 nm, and the frequency bandwidth was 5.5 Hz. Simultaneous compensation of the linear and angular motion errors using two actively controlled capillaries was also performed for a hydrostatic table driven by a ballscrew and a DC servomotor. An iterative compensation method was applied to improve the compensation characteristics. Experimental results showed that the linear and angular motion errors were improved to $0.12{\mu}m$ and 0.20 arcsec, which were about $1/15^{th}$ and $1/6^{th}$ of the initial motion errors, respectively. These results confirmed that the proposed compensation method improves the motion accuracy of hydrostatic tables very effectively.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of caffeine intake on sleep duration of college students. The data collection period was April 6 to June 30, 2023, and 381 samples were used for final analysis. The general characteristics of the subjects were 38.6% daily water intake of less than 1 liter, caffeine beverage intake was 36.5% once to twice a week, 25.2% three to four times, 13.9% five to six times, 14.7% zero times, and 9.7% more than seven times. The most common purpose of caffeine intake was "to wake up" at 54.6%. factors affecting the subjects' sleep were Caffeine drinks besides coffee and grades. Since this study confirmed that non-coffee caffeine drinks affect sleep duration among caffeine drinks available to students, it is necessary to provide education on caffeine intake control and information that the maximum daily intake is 400 mg for college students.
The applications of active control is being more popular nowadays. Several control algorithms have been developed to determine optimum control force. In this paper, a Chaotic Particle Swarm Optimization (CPSO) technique, based on Logistic map, is used to compute the optimum control force of active tendon system. A chaotic exploration is used to search the solution space for optimum control force. The response control of Multi-Degree of Freedom (MDOF) shear buildings, equipped with active tendons, is introduced as an optimization problem, based on Instantaneous Optimal Active Control algorithm. Three MDOFs are simulated in this paper. Two examples out of three, which have been previously controlled using Lattice type Probabilistic Neural Network (LPNN) and Block Pulse Functions (BPFs), are taken from prior works in order to compare the efficiency of the current method. In the present study, a maximum allowable value of control force is added to the original problem. Later, a twenty-story shear building, as the third and more realistic example, is considered and controlled. Besides, the required Central Processing Unit (CPU) time of CPSO control algorithm is investigated. Although the CPU time of LPNN and BPFs methods of prior works is not available, the results show that a full state measurement is necessary, especially when there are more than three control devices. The results show that CPSO algorithm has a good performance, especially in the presence of the cut-off limit of tendon force; therefore, can widely be used in the field of optimum active control of actual buildings.
In this paper, a novel schedulability criteria is developed to provide handover calls with Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees in terms of both minimum available bandwidth, maximum tolerated packet delay, and other additive QoS constraints as required by the real-time mobile traffic. This requires prediction of the handover time using mobility trends on the mobile station, which is used as input to this work. After the handover time and the QoS are negotiated, the destination base station makes attempts to give priority to handover calls over new calls, and pre-reserves resources that will have more chance of being available during the actual handover.
Fire protection is one of important issues to ensure safety and reduce risks of nuclear power plants (NPPs). While robust programs to shut down commercial reactors in any fires have been successfully maintained, the concept and associated regulatory requirements are constantly changing or strengthening by lessons learned from operating experiences and information all over the world. As part of this context, it is necessary not only to establish specific fire hazard assessment methods reflecting the characteristics of research reactors and educational reactors but also to make decisions based on advancement encompassing numerical analyses and experiments. The objectives of this study are to address fire simulation in the control room of an educational reactor and to discuss integrity of digital console in charge of main operation as well as analysis results through comparison. Three electrical fire scenarios were postulated and twenty-four thermal analyses were carried out taking into account two turbulence models, two cable materials and two ventilation conditions. Twelve supplementary thermal analyses and six subsequent structural analyses were also conducted for further examination on the temperature and heat flux of cable and von Mises stress of digital console, respectively. As consequences, effects of each parameter were quantified in detail and future applicability was briefly discussed. On the whole, higher profiles were obtained when Deardorff turbulence model was employed or polyvinyl chloride material and larger ventilation condition were considered. All the maximum values considered in this study met the allowable criteria so that safety action seems available by sustained integrity of the cable linked to digital console within operators' reaction time of 300 s.
This work presents a method to compute the sun position(azimuth and elevation), sunrise and sunset times. Accurate computation of sun position is very important to the precise tracking of the sun for the solar concentrator, which enables the maximum collection of solar energy. Methods to compute the sun position are available in the literature already. However most of them do not have accuracy verification, thus makes hard in selecting the most accurate sun position computation method. We first select the most accurate sun position computation method among the methods presented in the literature by comparing the computed sun position with Korean Almanac of Korea Astronomy Observatory. Then a procedure to compute the sunrise and sunset times is presented. Computed sun position shows $0.02^{\circ},\;0.6^{\circ}$ and one minute differences in azimuth, elevation and sunrise/sunset times respectively compared with Korean Almanac.
The quality of navigation service is determined by the accuracy of the available data. For existing navigation services, a full map update is provided in order to keep the map data of mobile devices current. As content and services of mobile devices have recently been diversifying, the size of map data managed in mobile devices has increased, reaching several gigabytes in size. It generally takes tens of minutes to write several gigabytes of data into mobile device storage. For traditional navigation systems, a complicated storage structure called a physical storage format (PSF) is used to assure maximum processing performance of map data in mobile devices within limited resources. Consequently, even though modified navigation map data actually affects only a portion of a map, the full map data is updated because partial updates are not possible. In this paper, a navigation system is studied to solve this difficult partial map update problem. The map air update navigation system, which is the result of this study, provides real-time partial map updating using wireless communications.
