In this study, we have manufactured the LHP(Loop Heat Pipe) with sintered metal wick and investigated the working characteristics of LHP experimentally.Water was used as a working fluid and fill charge rate was changed. LHP basically consist of the separated vapor/liquid channels, evaporator having sintered metal wick(effective pore diameter :$16{\sim}19{\mu}m$), and condenser cooled by water. The diameter of vapor/liquid line tube are 3.2mm/6.35mm, respectively. Heat transfer rate and thermal resistance was represented to study the basic characteristics of LHP at each conditions
A linear elastic fracture mechanics analysis of multiful subsurface cracks propagation in a half-space subjected to moving thermomechanical surface traction was peformed using the finite element method. The effect of frictional heat at the sliding surface on the crack growth behavior is analyzed in terms of the thermal load and peclet number. The crack propagation direction is predicted in light of the magnitudes of the maximum shear and tensile stress intensity factor ranges. When moving thermomechanical surface traction exists, subsurface horizontal cracks are propagation in-plane crack growth rate at the beginning but they are propagation out-of-plane crack growth rate by the frictional heat which is occurrence by the repeated sliding contact.
Experimental analysis has been carried out to investigate thermal characteristics of hydraulic system in special vehicles. Hydraulic system performance is largely influenced by oil temperature, and there are considerable performance decline and malfunctions in the system for high temperature conditions caused by heavy load and continuous operation. Transient oil temperature and pressure variation are analyzed and heat generation rates in the several main system parts are compared for various flow rates. With the start of system operation oil temperature gradually increases, and viscosity deceases by about 70% as temperature increases from $20^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$. Operation pressure in the hydraulic system decreases with oil temperature, and its variation rate becomes less steep as oil temperature increases. Heat generation rate in hydraulic pump also depends on the oil temperature, and it reaches maximum near $50^{\circ}C$. These results in this study can be applied to optimal design of efficient hydraulic system in special vehicles.
Friction stir welding(FSW) was studied using commercial tool, FLOW-3D. The purpose of this study is to suggest a method to apply frictional heat in Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) analysis. Cylindrical tool shape was used, and the interface cells between tool surface and workpiece were tracked by its geometrical relations in order to consider the frictional heat in FSW. After tracking the interface cells, average area concept was used to calculate the frictional heat, which is related to interface area. Also three-dimensional heat source and visco-plastic flow were modeled. The frictional heat generation rate calculated numerically from the suggested algorithm was validated with the analytical solution. The numerical solution was well matched with the analytical solution, and the maximum percentage of error was around 3%.
Analysis and experiment are performed to investigate the thermal performance of a heat pipe with axial grooves. The heat pipe was designed in a 6.5 mm I.D., 17 axial trapezoidal grooves. 1000 mm long tube of aluminium, and ammonia as working fluid. A mathematical equations fur heat pipe with axial grooves is formulated to obtain the capillary limitation on heat transport rate in a steady state. As a result, heat transport factor of heat pipe has the maximum at the operating temperature of 293K in 0m elevation. As the elevation of heat pipe increases. the heat transport factor of the heat pipe is reduced markedly, comparing with that of horizontal elevation of the heat pipe. It may be considered that such behavior of heat pipe is caused by the working fluid swarmed back to the condenser port due to gravity force and supercooled by a coolant of heat exchanger. Analytical results of heat transport factor are in a good agreement with those of experiment.
We develop a heat exchanger modules for a multi-burner boiler. The heat exchanger module is kind of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). This heat recovery system has 4 heat exchanger modules. The 1st module consists of 27 bare tubes due to high temperature exhaust gas and the others consist of 27 finned tubes. The maximum steam pressure of each module is 1 MPa and tested steam pressure is 0.7 MPa. In order to test these heat exchanger modules, we make a 0.5t/h flue tube boiler (LNG, $40\;Nm^3/h$). We tested the heat exchanger module with changing the position of each heat exchanger module. We measured the inlet and outlet temperature of each heat exchanger module and calculated the heat exchange rate. The results show that if module C is placed at second stage (the 1st stage is always module O, bare tube module), there is no need to attach an additional heat exchanger module. In this case the exit temperature of module C is low enough to enter an economizer which is more effective in heat recovery than a heat exchanger module.
The effects of the inclination of enclosure and partition on natural convective flow and heat transfer were investigated numerically. The enclosure was composed of the lower hot and the upper cold horizontal walls and the adiabatic vertical walls, and a partition was positioned perpendicularly at the mid-height of one vertical insulated wall. The governing equations are solved by using the finite element method with Galerkin method. The computations were performed with the variations of the partition length and Rayleigh number based on the temperature difference between two horizontal walls and the enclosure height with water(Pr=4.95). The effects of the inclination angle of enclosure and partition on the heat transfer within an enclosure were also studied. As the results, the increase of the inclination angle of enclosure rapidly raised the heat transfer rate, while the inclination angle for the maximum Nusselt number was retarded with the increase of the partition length and the decrease of the heat transfer rate became larger in proportion to the increase of the partition length. The Nusselt number obtained by the inclination of partition was smaller than that of the inclination of enclosure. However, the difference of the heat transfer rates was considerably decreased at the longer partition lengths and the trends for the variation of the average Nusselt number were more similar with that of the inclination of enclosure. The upward oriented partition increases the convective heat transfer distinctly in contrast to that of the inclination of enclosure as the partition length increases.
An analysis of convective boiling heat transfer for refrigerant mixtures is performed for an annular flow to investigate the degradation of the heat transfer rate. Annular flow is selected in this study because a great portion of the evaporator in the refrigeration and air conditioning system is known to be in the annular flow regime. Mass transfer effect due to composition difference between liquid and vapor is included in this analysis, which is considered to be one of driving forces for the mass transfer at the interface. Due to the concentration gradient at the interface the mass transfer is interfered, so is the evaporative heat transfer at the interface. The mass transfer resistance makes the interface temperature slightly higher and, as a result, the heat transfer coefficients decrease compared with those without mass transfer effects. The degradatioin of the heat transfer rate reaches its maximum at a certain composition. The composition difference between vapor core and vapor at the interface has a direct effect on the temperature difference between the vapor core and the interface and the degradation of the heat transfer rate. Correction factor $C_{F}$ for the mixture effects is added to the correlation for pure substances and the flow boiling heat transfer coefficients can be calculated using the modified equation.n.
A semitransparent photovoltaic-thermal (PV/T) air collector can produce electricity and heat simultaneously. To maximize the thermal and overall efficiency of the semitransparent PV/T air collector, its availability should be maximum; this can be determined through a Markov analysis. In this paper, a Markov model is developed to select an optimized number of semitransparent PV modules in service with five states and two states by considering two parameters, namely failure rate (λ) and repair rate (μ). Three artificial neural network (ANN) models are developed to obtain the minimum cost, minimum temperature, and maximum thermal efficiency of the semitransparent PV/T air collector by setting its type appropriately and optimizing the number of photovoltaic modules and cost. An attempt is also made to achieve maximum thermal and overall efficiency for the semitransparent PV/T air collector by using ANN after obtaining its minimum temperature and available solar radiation.

The present study investigated experimentally and numerically the enhancement of absorption performance due to the waviness of falling film in the vertical absorber tube. The momentum, energy and mass diffusion equations were utilized to find out temperature and concentration profiles at both the interfaces of liquid solution and refrigerant vapor and the wall. Flow visualization was performed to find out the wetting characteristics of the falling film. The maximum heat transfer coefficient was obtained for the wavy flow using spring as an insert device through both numerical and experimental studies. Based on the numerical and experimental results, the maximum absorption rate was found for the wavy-flow using spring as the insert device. The differences between experimental and analytical results ranged from $5.0\;to\;25\%\;when\;Re_j>100$.
