  • This paper describes a topology optimization technique which can maximize the fundamental frequency of the structures. The fundamental frequency maximization is achieved by means of the minimization of modal strain energy as an inverse problem so that the strain energy based resizing algorithm is directly used in this study. The strain energy to be minimized is therefore employed as the objective function and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. Multi-frequency problem is considered by the introduction of the weight which is used to combine several target modal strain energy terms into one scalar objective function. Several numerical examples are presented to investigate the performance of the proposed topology optimization technique. From numerical tests, it is found to be that the proposed optimization technique is extremely effective to maximize the fundamental frequency of structure and can successfully consider the multi-frequency problems in the topology optimization process.

  • In this paper, efficiency optimization design of 600W class IPMSM was performed by using Quasi-Newton method. The output was limited to 600W to meet the same output as the basic model. The behavior of each variable as the design progressed was judged on the efficiency, which is the target value through correlation analysis. The design variables were set as the width of the stator, the position of the permanent magnet from the end of the rotor, the thickness of the permanent magnet, and the width of the permanent magnet.

  • Licensing contracts between partners in International Joint Ventures(IJV) have not only aspects of relation contract, which is interdependent and long-term cooperative relationships in interpartner but also aspects of discrete contract which is exposed to opportunistic risk caused by IJV partners who maximize individual profit instead of joint payoff maximization. In this circumstance, appropriate compensation structures such as lump-sum and royalty can reduce conflicts and spur interpartner cooperation. In addition, compensation structures that stipulate each party's rights, duties, and responsibilities under various sets of environmental conditions have strong implications for transaction cost minimization and joint payoff maximization. On the other hands, compensation structures such as lump-sum and royalty in IJV licensing contract have benefits and costs depending on IJV partners uncertainty, partner dependency, and environment uncertainty. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to empirically show how partner uncertainty, partner dependence and environment uncertainty influence compensation structure chosen by licensor in IJV.

  • The concave utility in the Network Utility Maximization (NUM) problem is only suitable for elastic flows. In networks with multiclass traffic, the utility can be concave, linear, step or sigmoidal. Hence, the basic NUM becomes a nonconvex optimization problem. The current approach utilizes the standard dual-based decomposition method. It does not converge in case of scarce resource. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that always converges to a local optimal solution to the nonconvex NUM after solving a series of convex approximation problems. Our techniques can be applied to any log-concave utilities.

  • This paper presents a R&D investment model for the Information and telecommunications(l&T) technology using multiple objective linear programming(MOLP). The MOLP model involves the simultaneous maximization of three linear objective functions associated with three criteria, which are social, technological, and economic criterion. This model is different from the traditional one which only involves the maximization of economic criterion. It yields a suitable R&D investment ratio to each technology field. Its application to the National R&D Project in l&t Industry is also presented. In this application, the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) is proposed to estimate the weights, which used as the coefficients in each objective function of the MOLP model. Then the problem is solved using the interactive method STEM. It is showed that with the aid of STEM, the MOLP model can be useful decision aid in formulation R&D investment plan in l&t industry. It is expected that the MOLP model works as the basis for planning R&D investment strategy in l&T industry.

  • In an electricity market with imperfect competition, participants devise bidding plans and transaction strategies to maximize their own profits. The market price and the quantity are concerned with the operation reserve as well as the bidding system and demand curves in an electricity market. This paper presents a market model combined by an energy market and an operating reserve market. The competition of the generation producers in the combined market is formulated as a gaming of selecting bid parameters such as intersections and slopes in bid functions. The Nash Equilibrium (NE) is analyzed by using bi-level optimization; maximization of Social Welfare (SW) and maximization of the producers' profits.

  • Overlap Maximization is a sampling technique to reduce survey costs and costs associated with the survey. It was first studied by Keyfitz(1951). Ernst(1998) presented a remarkable procedure for maximizing the overlap when the sampling units can be selected for two identical stratified designs simultaneously, But the approach involves mimicking the behaviour of nonlinear function by linear function and so it is less direct, even though the stratification problem for the overlap corresponds directly to the linear programming problem. furthermore, it uses the controlled selection algorithm that repeatedly needs zero-restricted controlled roundings, which are solutions of capacitated transportation problems. In this paper we suggest a comparatively simple procedure to use linear programming in order to maximize the overlap. We show how this procedure can be implemented practically.

  • Retreiving indoor scene reference image from database using visual information is important issue in Robot Navigation. Scene matching problem in navigation robot is not easy because input image that is taken in navigation process is affinly distorted. We represent probabilistic framework for the feature matching between features in input image and features in database reference images to guarantee robust scene matching efficiency. By reconstructing probabilistic scene matching framework we get a higher precision than the existing feaure-feature matching scheme. To construct probabilistic framework we represent each image as Gaussian Mixture Model using Expectation Maximization algorithm using SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform).

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient computational algorithm that can reduce significantly the computational complexity of the ML optimum multiuser detector known as the most excellent detector in synchronous code division multiple access channels. The proposed detector uses the sequential detection algorithm based on the alternating maximization appraoch to obtain the ML estimates. As initial estimates for this sequential algorithm, we can use the estimated values obtained by the conventional single-user detector, the linear decorrelating multiuser detector, or the decorrelating decision-feedback muliuser detector, the linear decorrelating multiuser detector, or the decorrelating decision-feedback multiuser detector. We have performed computer simulations in order to see the convergence behaviors and the detection performance of the propsoed algorithm in terms of initial algorithms and the number of users, and then to compare the computational complexity with that of the ML optimum multiuser detector. From the results, we have seen that the proposed alternating maximization detector has nearly equal detction performance with that of the ML optimum multiuser detctor in only a few iteration.
