  • Experiments have been performed to investigate the formation of smoke layer in case of several furniture fires such as trashcan, chair, carpet, sofa, mattress, and wardrobe in a residential room. As a result of the present investigation, the uniformly distributed fire of carpet showed that the ignition and the initial growth period were relatively short while the fully developed period was considerably long. The concentrated fires such as mattress and wardrobe showed that the ignition and the initial growth period were relatively long. The descending time of the interface heights was within 1-3 minutes to reach around 1m. However, the interface height was lowered to 0.25-0.75m above the floor at the time of the maximum temperature.

  • In this study, the fire patterns, heat emissions, and smoke generated by means of fire tests developed for representative combustibles in residential facilities were analyzed from among seven fire types. These combustibles were selected in a previous study to simulate real-world situations and professionalism required while dealing with these types of fires and develop the field commander training content. Consequently, the maximum heat dissipation was recorded as 728.6 kW, followed by the dissipation measured from the combination of a mattress and electric blanket, desk and chair, and TV and mattress. The total heat emission of sofas (226.2 MJ) and the combination of mattress and electric blanket (2,259.5 ㎡) was recorded. In this study, the scope of the tests was limited to the fire characteristics and characteristics of the combustibles, and it is expected that a simulation using various data acquisition methods and FDS would be performed and evaluated at a later stage.

  • The actual conditions of bed climate are investigated depending on the regions and housing styles used on ondol in autumn and winter. Sixty healthy men and women (30 of them live in apartmrnt and 30 of them live in detached house, 20 of them live in Wonju, 20 of them live in Wonju, 20 of them live in Cheongju and 20 of them live in Pusan) The results are as follows: 1) No significant differences was shown between the seasons of bedclothes thickness. 2) In the autumn, the temperature and humidity of bedroom, on the mattress, inside the bedquilt, and inside the sleep-wear were higher than those in the winter. The temperature of ondol floor and under the mattress in winter were higher than those in the autumn. 3) The differences of the temperature and humidity of bedroom, the bed climate, and the clothing microclimate were significant by the regions and housing styles in both seasons. In both seasons, the temperature of bedroom, on the mattress, inside sleep-wear in the apartment were higher than those in the detached house. 4) The differences of subjective sensation on the bedroom conditions were not significant by the sextons, the regions, and the housing styles. Most subjects perceived that the conditions of bedroom were somehow hot and dry, but comfortable.

  • The authors introduce an operative technique which is simple and effective for the treatment of the large prepatellar bursitis, avoiding problems by the conventional open technique such as tender scar, infection and recurrence. We treated three cases of the large refractory prepatellar bursitis caused by acute direct trauma. Bursectomies were performed by using an arthroscope and percutaneous multiple sutures were applied to the overlying skin with mattress fashion. There were no complications after treatment over one year follow-up. We suggest that this technique is very useful, greatly minimizes the chance of recurrence and reduces the possibility of post-operative infection.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to clinically assess the impact of a prefabricated implant-retained stent clipped over healing abutments on the preservation of keratinized mucosa around implants after implant surgery, and to compare it with horizontal external mattress sutures. Methods: A total of 50 patients were enrolled in this study. In the test group, a prefabricated implant-retained stent was clipped on the healing abutment after implant surgery to replace the keratinized tissue bucco-apically. In the control group, horizontal external mattress sutures were applied instead of using a stent. After the surgical procedure, the width of the buccal keratinized mucosa was measured at the mesial, middle, and distal aspects of the healing abutment. The change in the width of the buccal keratinized mucosa was assessed at 1 and 3 months. Results: Healing was uneventful in both groups. The difference of width between baseline and 1 month was $-0.26{\pm}0.85mm$ in the test group, without any statistical significance (P=0.137). Meanwhile, the corresponding difference in the control group was $-0.74{\pm}0.73mm$ and it showed statistical significance (P<0.001). The difference of width between baseline and 3 months was $-0.57{\pm}0.97mm$ in the test group and $-0.86{\pm}0.71mm$ in the control group. These reductions were statistically significant (P<0.05); however, there was no difference between the 2 groups. Conclusions: Using a prefabricated implant-retained stent was shown to be effective in the preservation of the keratinized mucosa around implants and it was simple and straightforward in comparison to the horizontal external mattress suture technique.

  • The objective of this research is to study on the formations of thermal stratification in a room in case of several furniture fires such as trashcan, carpet, sofa, mattress and wardrobe as a fire starter in a residential room by performing the experimental studies. The uniformly distributed fire in case of carpet showed that the ignition and the initial growth period were relatively short while the fully developed period was considerably long. The concentrated fires such as the mattress and wardrobe showed that the ignitions and the initial growth periods were relatively long. When fire spread to only direction, like the case for the trashcan with a regular shape, there was one peak of temperature profile, and for the irregular shaped furniture such as chair, sofa, mattress and wardrobe, there were two or more peaks. The interface heights for the furniture fires were around 1[m] maintaining constant state. However, at the time of the maximum temperature, the interface height was lowered to 0.25[m]-0.75[m] from the floor.

  • It has generally used the burial method for the protection methods of submarine cable. Especially in Korea, It has used the protection methods of various types according to fisheries and fishing implements. Present day, All the protection methods-burial, continuous concrete mattress, cast iron pipes, U-duct, concrete bags, Rock Berm, mortar bags, FCM apply to the submarine cable, but these methods just focus on the safety of submarine cable against the external damages not the characteristics of ocean environment and the protection of environment. This research is going to present the protection methods of submarine cable according as the characteristics of ocean environment-external damages, depth of water, seabed condition, wave power and the protection of environment.
