In this paper, a two ports machine(TPM) model for discrete event dynamic systems(DEDS) is proposed. The proposed model is a finite state machine which has two inputs and two outputs. Inputs and outputs have two components, events and informations. TPM is different from other state machine models, since TPM has symmetric input and output. This symmetry enables the block diagram representation of the DEDS with TPM blocks, summing points, multiplying points, branch points, and connections. The graphical representation of DEDS is analogous to that of control system theory. TPM has a matrix representation of its transition and information map. This matrix representation simplifies the analysis of the DEDS.

Influence coefficients on two-plane flexible rotor balancing model are derived by using the transfer matrix method. The model has a rigid uniform cylinder at mid-span of flexible shafts. Both faces of the rigid cylinder are used as the balancing planes. Calculated influence coefficients show that there exist the rotating speed ranges which are useless or insensitive for the balancing. Gyroscopic effect and damping are considered in the study and their effects are discussed.

This paper presents a experimental study of Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar(ISAR) imaging using Matrix Pencil(MP) method. A series of measurement for two types of target model was done in a Compact Range(CR)facility. The first target is a set of distributed slim cylinders to get a ISAR image of point-like scatterers. The second is UAV model representing a complex real target. The results show that ISAR images by MP method are better than by conventional FFT method under the realistic measurement conditions.

An investigation was performed to study the impact damage in CFRP laminated composites subjected to impact loading. A finite element model has been developed for predicting the impact damage in laminated composite plates resulting from the ballistic impact. The finite element model was based on the higher-order shear deformation theory and was used to predict the initial intraply matrix cracking and the shape and size of interface delamination in laminated composites. Numerical simulation was performed and then the initiation of the matrix cracking and the shape and size of impacted induced delamination were predicted, and te results were compared with those of impact experiments with the same dimension and stacking sequences. A linear relationship holds between impact velocity and length and width of delamination. As impact velocity is increased, the increase of delamination length is highger than the increase of delamination width.
Multi-input multi-output (MIMO) dynamic matrix control (DMC) technique is applied to control steam temperatures in a large-scale ultrasupercritical once-through boiler-turbine system. Specifically, four output variables (i.e., outlet temperatures of platen superheater, finish superheater, primary reheater, and finish reheater) are controlled using four input variables (i.e., two spray valves, bypass valve, and damper). The step-response matrix for the MIMO DMC is constructed using the four input and the four output variables. Online optimization is performed for the MIMO DMC using the model predictive control technique. The MIMO DMC controller is implemented in a full-scope power plant simulator with satisfactory performance.

The development of a finite element model for the geometric and material nonlinear analysis of bonded prestressed concrete continuous beams is presented. The nonlinear geometric effect is introduced by the coupling of axial and flexural fields. A layered approach is applied so as to consider different material properties across the depth of a cross section. The proposed method of analysis is formulated based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. According to the total Lagrangian description, the constructed stiffness matrix consists of three components, namely, the material stiffness matrix reflecting the nonlinear material effect, the geometric stiffness matrix reflecting the nonlinear geometric effect and the large displacement stiffness matrix reflecting the large displacement effect. The analysis is capable of predicting the nonlinear behaviour of bonded prestressed concrete continuous beams over the entire loading stage up to failure. Some numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the proposed model.
Combustion instability is a major issue in design of gas turbine combustors for efficient operation with low emissions. Combustion instability is induced by the interaction of the unsteady heat release of the combustion process and the change in the acoustic pressure in the combustion chamber. In an effort to develop a technique to predict self-excited combustion instability of gas turbine combustors, a new stability analysis method based on the transfer matrix method is developed. The method views the combustion system as a one-dimensional acoustic system with a side branch and describes the heat source as the input to the system. This approach makes it possible to use the advantages of not only the transfer matrix method but also well-established classic control theories. The approach is applied to a simple gas turbine combustion system to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the approach.
This paper describes development of PMSG wind power system model using wind turbine simulator and matrix converter. The wind turbine simulator, which consists of an induction motor with vector drive, calculates the output torque of a specific wind turbine using simulation software and sends the torque signal to the vector drive after scaling down the calculated value. The operational feasibility of interconnected PMSG system with matrix converter was verified by computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software. The simulation results confirm that matrix converter can be effectively applied for the PMSG system.
This paper proposes an open-switch fault tolerant strategy based on the model predictive control for a full bidirectional switches indirect matrix converter (FBS-IMC). Compared to the conventional Indirect Matrix Converter (IMC), the FBS-IMC can provide healthy current path when open-switch fault is occurred. To keep the continuous operation, the fault tolerant strategy is developed by means of reversing the DC-link voltage polarity regardless of the faulty switch location in the rectifier or inverter stage. Therefore, the proposed control strategy can maintain the same input and output performances during the faulty condition as the normal condition. The simulation results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.
A modeling method is described to provide a smaller structural dynamic model which can be used to compare finite element model of a structure with its experimental counterpart. A structural dynamic model is assumed to be represented by dynamic stiffness matrix. To validate a finite element model, it is often necessary to condense a large degrees of freedom (dofs) to a relatively small number of dofs. For these purpose, static reduction techniques are widely used. However, errors in these techniques are caused by neglecting frequency dependent terms in the functions relating slave dofs and master dofs. An alternative method is proposed in this paper in which the frequency dependent terms are considered by expressing the reduced dynamic stiffness matrix with orthogonal polynomials. The reduced model has finally a minimum set of dofs, such as sensors and excitation points and it is under the same condition as the physical system. It is proposed that the reduced model can be derived from finite element model. The procedure is applied to example structure and the results are discussed.
