  • This paper considers formal verification methods for enhancing software reliability. The formal method verifies that a software is correctly implemented according to its specification by using a mathematical formalism. This paper presents a partial survey on the formal methods and discusses possible applications for the improved software implementation. Finally, some topics are remarked as further studies.

  • The informal specification technique lacks abstraction and preciseness. On the other hand, the formal specification technique makes the developer difficult to express and understand the software specification, because it contains mathematical expression. This paper proposes DSC(Domain Specification Component) to solves these problems. DSC supports the understanding of problem domain and improves reusability with selecting the strong point of informal and formal specification technique. We applied the proposed DSC to CMIP-based network management manager software. And we analyzed the effects of the reusability and confirmed the increase of the reusability.

Investigating Arithmetic Mean, Harmonic Mean, and Average Speed through Dynamic Visual Representations

  • Working with dynamic visual representations can help students-with-computer discover new mathematical ideas. Students translate among multiple representations as a strategy to investigate non-routine problems to explore possible solutions in mathematics classrooms. In this paper, we use the area models as new representations for our secondary students to investigate three problems related to the average speed of a particle. Students show their ideas in the process of investigating arithmetic mean, harmonic mean, and average speed through their created dynamic figures. These figures really utilize dynamic geometry software.

  • For finding the optimal strategy in Blackout game which was introduced in the homepage of popular mono "Beautiful mind", we develope a mathematical proof and an algorithm with a software. We only use the concept of basis and knowledge of basic linear algebra. This process can be extended to the fullsize Go table problem and shows why we have to study mathematics at the college level.

  • What characteristics of computer games encourage persistence, engagement, and learning for both girls and boys\ulcorner The purpose in conducting this research was to identify characteristics of computer games that engage all children-girls and boys- in significant mathematical learning. A set of criteria for evaluating gender fair computer games was developed. Much of this research had involved observing children playing computer games in pairs and small groups. Two game softwares were analyzed by way of dialogues that occurred with the games.

A NEW EXTENSION OF BESSEL FUNCTION

  • In this paper, we propose an extension of the classical Bessel function by means of our ℓ-hypergeometric function [2]. As the main results, the infinite order differential equation, the generating function relation, and contour integral representations including Schläfli's integral analogue are derived. With the aid of these, other results including some inequalities are also obtained. At the end, the graphs of these functions are plotted using the Maple software.

Elementary Preservice Teachers' Noticing and Evaluation of Digital Mathematical Resources

  • With the rapid advancement of educational technology, recent studies have connected teachers' professional noticing with the use of digital resources in mathematical instructions. In this study, I examined elementary mathematics preservice teachers' attending and interpreting a mathematical software, ST Math, in the exploring and implementing phases. The findings indicate that preservice teachers paid attention to visual representations and manipulation prior to interactions with children and further took into consideration on task structures and situated context after interactions. They interpreted the events based on connected mathematical knowledge of prior interactions and further reflected on the progression of problem-solving strategies and sequence of tasks. In addition, four distinctive profiles of transitioning of evaluation on ST Math activities were identified with illustrations. Implications for noticing and teacher education were discussed.

탐구형 소프트웨어를 활용한 합동과 대칭 수업에서 나타나는 초등학생의 귀납적 추론과 시각화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Inductive Reasoning and Visualization of Elementary School Students in Congruence and Symmetry Lessons with Exploratory Software)

  • 본 연구에서는 초등학교 5학년 2학기 '합동과 대칭' 단원을 대상으로 탐구형 소프트웨어를 활용한 수업에서 학생들에게서 나타난 귀납적 추론 능력의 수준과 시각화 구성 요소의 양상이 어떠한지 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 초등학교 5학년 1개 반, 총 19명을 대상으로 탐구형 소프트웨어 중 GeoGebra를 활용한 합동과 대칭 수업을 진행하고 학생들의 활동 결과물을 중심으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과 학생들의 귀납적 추론 능력 수준이 비슷한 수준을 유지하거나 발전되는 형태로 나타났고 학생들이 소프트웨어의 다양한 기능을 활용하여 도형의 새로운 성질을 귀납적으로 추론하는 모습이 나타났다. 또한 시각화 측면에서 학생들이 조건에 맞는 도형을 빠르고 쉽게 그릴 수 있었고 지필 환경과는 다르게 '측정', '대칭' 기능을 활용하여 복잡하면서도 정확히 합동과 대칭인 외적 표상을 변형, 조작하는 모습이 나타났다. 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 도형 영역에서 탐구형 소프트웨어의 활용에 대한 시사점을 도출하였다.

A Python-based educational software tool for visualizing bioinformatics alignment algorithms

  • Bioinformatics education can be defined as the teaching and learning of how to use software tools, along with mathematical and statistical analysis, to solve biological problems. Although many resources are available, most students still struggle to understand even the simplest sequence alignment algorithms. Applying visualizations to these topics benefits both lecturers and students. Unfortunately, educational software for visualizing step-by-step processes in the user experience of sequence alignment algorithms is rare. In this article, an educational visualization tool for biological sequence alignment is presented, and the source code is released in order to encourage the collaborative power of open-source software, with the expectation of further contributions from the community in the future. Two different modules are integrated to enable a student to investigate the characteristics of alignment algorithms.
