  • This study investigated whether there was a difference between general teaching efficacy and science teaching efficacy of preservice elementary teachers. And, the difference was also examined in the area of several variables of the preservice teachers, such as gender, the university majors, the high school majors, and grades. The results showed that a significant difference was not found between general teaching efficacy and science teaching efficacy. Teacher variables were found as the major factors to explain the difference. In case of male students who are majoring in science/math at university, and the students who majored in science/math at high school, science teaching efficacy was higher than general teaching efficacy. Whereas, in case of female students and nonscience majors at university and high school, science teaching efficacy was lower than their general teaching efficacy. Educational implications for preservice elementary teachers were discussed.

  • In this study, a new open-ended format math testing system for elementary school students has been proposed. This system is an application of the recently proposed Constructive Multiple-choice Testing (CMT) system on math testing. The CMT system is a testing system in which the examinee has to respond to an item twice, first in an open ended format, and then in the multiple choice format. The advantages of this system is that process information can easily be obtained and that the examinee can receive feedback immediately after the test, based on his/her multiple choice responses. This open-ended format math testing system includes the manager mode, which allows the generation of the test items and student account management, and the testing mode, which allows the students to input their solution process using the menu bar and the keyboard. When two groups, one tested using the CMT system and the other tested using the paper and pencil test, were compared, there was no significant difference in average scores between the two groups although the testing time was longer for the group tested using the CMT system. This result suggests that the open-ended format math testing system proposed in this study can be used effectively in the actual classroom setting.

  • This study aims to find meaningful implications for the development of Korean elementary school math education courses and textbooks by comparing and analyzing the number and arithmetic areas of Korean and Canadian math textbooks in fifth and sixth grades. To this end, the textbook composition system of Korean and Canadian elementary schools was compared and analyzed, and the number and timing of introduction of math textbooks and math textbooks by grade, and the number in fifth and sixth grade and the learning contents of math textbooks were compared and analyzed. The following conclusions were obtained from this study: First, it is necessary to organize a textbook that can solve the problem in an integrated way by introducing the learned mathematical concepts and computations naturally in the context of problems closely related to real life, regardless of the type of private calculation or mathematics area. Second, it is necessary to organize questions using materials such as real photography and mathematics, science, technology, engineering, art, etc. and to organize textbooks that make people feel the necessity and usefulness of mathematics. Third, sufficient learning of the principles of mathematics through the use of various actual teaching aids and mathematical models, and the construction of textbooks focusing on problem-solving strategies using engineering tools are needed. Fourth, in-depth discussions are needed on the timing of learning guidance for fractions and minority learning or how to organize and develop learning content.

  • Twenty-three of International Math Olympians raised in Korea were served as the subjects to answer the following questions: (1) What family and school factors contribute to the development of the math talent of the Olympians\ulcorner (2) What impacts have the Olympiad program on the mathematically talented students\ulcorner By means of questionnaire survey and in-depth interview, the related data were collected. The questionnaires were developed by James Campbell for cross-cultural studies. The major findings were as follows: (1) the olympians were mostly 1st-born child and were "discovered" in an early age; (2) most olympians ranked highly in the class; (3) the SES of the Olympians' family were varied, though the majority were high; (4) the Olympians' family support and learning environment were reported strong and positive; (5) the Olympiad experiences were, in general, positive to the subjects, especially in learning attitude toward math and science, self-esteem and in autonomous learning and creative problem solving; (6) there were almost none special program designed for the Olympians during their school years; (7) the degree of computer literacy were varied according to the subject's personal interest and the accessibility to the computer; (8) most Olympians had not yet showed special achievement other than math as there were still students; (9) the Olympians were individuals with unique characteristics.teristics.

  • We made an investigation into basic mathematical abilities and made university freshmen an object of this study in order to find out the reason why their capabilities are remarkably behind in studies year by year. According to the survey, we confirmed that recent university freshmen's basic abilities to attend calculus class, right away after entering university, are insufficient for that class. In particular, a matter of grave concern is that score variations are so big despite the equal major of the same university. The aim of the study is to evaluate university freshmen's basic mathematical abilities in nationwide university and to figure out the real situation, then to give assistance to the proper calculus curriculum of university by reflecting the result in it. And also we wish to be helpful to propose proper policy plan in natural science system of highschool.

  • In this article, we deal with the uniqueness problems of meromorphic functions concerning differential polynomials and prove the following theorem. Let f and g be two nonconstant meromorphic functions, n ≥ 12 a positive integer. If fn(f3 - 1)f′ and gn(g3 - 1)g′ share (1, 2), f and g share ∞ IM, then f ≡ g. The results in this paper improve and generalize the results given by Meng (C. Meng, Uniqueness theorems for differential polynomials concerning fixed-point, Kyungpook Math. J. 48(2008), 25-35), I. Lahiri and R. Pal (I. Lahiri and R. Pal, Nonlinear differential polynomials sharing 1-points, Bull. Korean Math. Soc. 43(2006), 161-168), Meng (C. Meng, On unicity of meromorphic functions when two differential polynomials share one value, Hiroshima Math.J. 39(2009), 163-179).

이에 본 논문에서는 수학식 표현을 구조적으로 생성해주는 MathML(Mathematical Markup Language)의 적용이 가능한XML(eXtensible Markup Language)기반의 구조적 문서생성을 위한 문서 편집 시스템을 설계 및 구현하였다.

  • Nowadays application of modem achievements of information technologies in science, engineering and education is usual phenomenon. Application of these technologies allows easily creating new methods of learning of mathematics. More of new methods of creation of multimedia electronic manuals on high mathematics are founded to application of multimedia and communication opportunities of the computer. But application only multimedia and communication opportunities of the computer at creation of multimedia electronic manuals on high mathematics is insufficient to elimination of 'gap' between training and studying high mathematics. So, we offer a new way of the decision of this problem: creation of a multimedia electronic manual on high mathematics with built-in a mathematical environment MathCad in the national language.
