Measurement of Nonlinear Elastic Constants and Material Characterization by Using Nonlinear Elasto-acoustics (비선형 탄성-음향 효과를 이용한 비선형 탄성 계수의 계측과 금속재료의 특성평가)

  • In this paper, a new method to estimate stress status in metal nondestructively by using nonlinear dependency of sound speed on stress is proposed. For the purpose, equivalent nonlinear elastic constants up to fourth-order are introduced and a new characteristic parameter given as a function of these constants is presented. And a concrete system to measure the characteristic parameter is constructed by electromagnetic pumping wave and ultrasonic probing wave system. Some experimental results for Al alloy showed that the estimation of stress status in metal is possible by the proposed method.

  • The reliability of machined fiber reinforced composites (FRC) in high strength applications and the safety in using these components are often critically dependent upon the quality of surface produced by machining since the surface layer may drastically affect the strength and chemical resistance of the material [1,2,3,4]. Current study will discuss the characterization of fiber pull-out in orthogonal cutting of a fiber-matrix composite materials. A sparsely distributed idealized model composite material, namely a glass reinforced polyester (GFRP) was used as workpiece. Analysis method employs a force sensor and the signals from the sensor are processed using AR time series model. The experimental correlation between the fiber pull-out and the AR coefficients is examined first and effects of fiber orientation, cutting parameters and tool geometry on the fiber pull-out are also discussed.

  • In this paper, Characterization for several 3-D embedded passive elements with different structures was performed. The equivalent circuit optimization for embedded inductor was performed by HSPICE simulation software. After extracting each parameter values, the difference of parameter from each structure was examined. From this work, effective characterization of passive devices with similar structure will be possible.

  • Electrical insulation is one of the most important parts in a high voltage apparatus. Traditionally mineral oils and synthetic esters have been widely used as dielectric coolants for power transformers. Recently, researchers are interested in the environmentally friendly vegetable oil from the environmental viewpoint. This paper reports on the synthesis and characterization of soybean based ester oils. Two different types of soybean based transformer oils, named as methyl ester and isopropyl ester were synthesized. The synthesis of these esters was achieved by transesterification reactions between soybean oil and alcohol in the presence of catalyst. The GC and NMR spectroscopic analysis of the esters have been performed. It was observed that isopropyl ester has better thermal resistance than methyl ester by TGA. Also, two esters have a good breakdown voltage and electrical resistance.

  • This research proposed an advanced Electronic bead (EB) using MMA (Methy methacrylate) and CCA (Charge Control Agent). In the first, this paper presents about measurement method and characterization analysis of EB with wet coating method. Furthermore, this work presents the positive and negative EB fabrication procedure. As the experimental results, the proposed EB with charge to ratio[Q/M] is very attractive to Electronic paper driving characterization.

  • ZnO Oxide TFT with organic dielectric was prepared. ZnO thin film as active channel was prepared by plasma enhanced atomic deposition technique. Organic dielectric was spin coated on the gate metal. The structure of prepared TFT is bottom gate type and top contact structure. The characterization of oxide TFT was performed. We obtained the mobility of $0.7cm^2$/Vs, the threshold voltage of -14V, and the on-off ratio of $10^4$. We also obtained good output characterization with solid saturation.

  • An experimental study on material characterization and mechanical properties of SMC(Sheet Molding Compounds) compression method parts was carried out. Simple compression test using grease oil as a lubricant was carried out to characterize flow stress of SMC at elevated temperatures. Two different mold temperatures, $130^{\circ}C{\;}and{\;}150^{\circ}C$ and two different mold speeds, 15, 45 mm/min were used for preparing the specimen of SMC compression molded parts. Surface roughness, tensile, and 3-point bending tests were used to determine the effects of molding temperatures and speeds on mechanical properties of compression molded SMC parts. Orientation and distribution of glass fiber in the compression molded SMC parts were also investigated by photographing the burnt flat specimen and taking SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) of cross-sectional T-specimen.

Characterization of $V_2O_{5}$ as a Counter Electrode for Smart Windows (스마트 윈도우용 $V_2O_{5}$ 대향전극의 특성)

  • We have investigated the characterization of $V_2O_{5}$ thin films as a counter electrode for lithium based complementary electrochromic devices. The amorphous $V_2O_{5}$ thin films produces comparatively small changes in transmittance in the visible and near infrared compared to the crystalline $V_2O_{5}$ thin films, while the degradation occurs in a-$V_2O_{5}$ thin films with increasing the cycle life time. As the thickness of $V_2O_{5}$ thin films increases from 100 to 600 nm, the magnitude of transmittance modulation decreases. The crystalline $V_2O_{5}$ thin films with thickness around 1000 have electrochromic properties suitable for counter electrode application in lithium based electrochromic smart windows.

Characterization of Ferroelectric Thin Film in Microwave Region (마이크로파대에서의 강유전 박막 유전 특성 평가)

  • In this study, ferroelectric (Ba,Sr)TiO$_3$ and high temperature superconductor YBCO thin films were fabricated by PLD (Pulsed Laser Deposition) method and tuneable bandstop filters were implemented with two different IDC(Interdigital Capacitance) gap patterns, 20${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 30${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ using these two thin film layers. The resonant frequency was changed by DC bias voltage. By comparing measured results with simulation, the dielectric properties of ferroelectric thin film have been extracted. The permittivity was 820 ~ 900 at 30 K and had an acceptable error range but the loss tangent had a great difference, 0.018 in 30${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ IDC gap pattern and 0.037 in 20 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.
