Formation and Growth of Epitaxial $CoSi_2$ Layer by Reactive Chemical Vapor Deposition (반응성 화학기상증착법을 이용한 에피택셜 $CoSi_2$ 박막의 형성 및 성장에 관한 연구)

  • Univorm epitaxial $CoSi_2$layers have been grown in situ on a (100) Si substrate at temperatures near$ 600^{\circ}C$ by reactive chemical vapor deposition of cyclopentadienyl dicarbonyl cobalt, (Co(η(sup)5-C(sub)5H(sub)5) ($CO_2$). The growth kinetics of an epitaxial $CoSi_2$layer on al Si(100) substrate was investigated at temperatures ranging from 575 to $650^{\circ}C$. In initial deposition stage, plate-like discrete $CoSi_2$spikes were nucleated along the <111> directions in (100) Si substrate with a twinned structure. The discrete $CoSi_2$plates with both {111} and (100) planes grew into an epitaxial layer with a flat interface on (100) Si. For epitaxial $CoSi_2$growth on (100) Si, the activation energy of the parabolic growth was found to be 2.82 eV. The growth rate seems to be controlled by the diffusion of Co through the $CoSi_2$layer.

Seismic Analyses of Soil Pressure against Embedded Mat Foundation and Pile Displacements for a Building in Moderate Seismic Area (중진지역 건축물의 묻힌온통기초에 작용하는 토압과 말 뚝변위에 대한 지진해석)

  • Seismic analyses of a pile under a large rigid basement foundation embedded in the homogeneous soil layer were performed practically by a response displacement method assuming a sinusoidal wave form. However, it is hard to take into account the characteristics of a large mat foundation and a heterogeneous soil layer with the response displacement method. The response displacement method is relevant to the 2D problems for longitudinal structures such as tunnel, underground cave structure, etc., but might not be relevant with isolated foundations for building structures. In this study, seismic pile analysis by a pseudo 3D finite element method was carried out to compare numerical results with results of the response displacement method considering 3D characteristics of a foundation-soil system which is important for the building foundation analyses. Study results show that seismic analyses results of a response displacement method are similar to those of a pseudo 3D numerical method for stiff and dense soil layers, but they are too conservative for a soft soil layer inducing large soil pressures on the foundation wall and large pile displacements due to ignored foundation rigidity and resistance.

  • Titanium was melted in the CaO-coated alumina crucible and the reaction between the melt and the coating layer was negligible. The volume fraction of the gas porosity was decreased with increasing pressure and the sound bar castings with no porosity was obtained under the Ar atmosphere of the pressure of $300kN/mm^2$. The surface of the casting obtained from CaO-coated graphite mold was slightly rougher than that from graphite without coating. The reaction product of titanium melt with the layer of CaO was mainly titanium oxide and that with graphite crucible was titanium cabide with small amount of titanium nitride.

  • According to the recent tendency that the buildings in the downtown concerning rising land prices and efficient use of building are gradually Manhattanized mainly the grand scaled residential buildings, structure of the buildings relates to safety and so the very thick mat concrete is selected as the foundation of architectures. Because mat concretes can not be simultaneously pour in a great quantity due to the circumstance at the field, not only the questions on the unification between the concretes pour on the upper layer and the lower layer are presented but also the cracks by the internal force from the difference of hydration exothermic period are occurred because of the time lag. Thus, this study checked the efficiency to apply "The hydration heat controlling method of mass concrete for horizontal partition pouring construction" to the skyscraper sites under construction at Haiundai in Busan. After applying this method, the result of observation that the cracks by hydration heat in all over the placement surface did never be founded. Also, in case of the economic analysis that the hydration heat reduction method using super retarding agent by difference of setting time is approximately 80% cheaper than the hydration heat reduction method by pipe cooling in the construction expenses.

Physical and Mechanical Properties of Panels Fabricated with Particle and Fiber by Composition Types (구성형태(構成形態)에 따른 파티클과 파이버로 제조(製造)한 패널의 물리적 및 기계적 성질)

  • The aim of this research was to investigate physical and mechanical properties of various composition panels, each fabricated with a ratio of fiber to particle of 2 to 10. Type A consisted of fiber-faces and particle-core in layered-mat system. Type B consisted of fiberboard-faces on particleboard-core. Type C consisted of fibers and particles in mixed-mat system. The results obtained from tests of bending strength, internal bond, screw holding strength and stability were as follows: 1. The bending strength and internal bonding of both the Type A panel and the Type B panel were higher than those of the Type C panel and three-layered particle board. 2. The mechanical properties of the Type C panel showed the lowest values of all composition methods. It seems that the different compression ratios of the particle and fiber interrupted the densification of the fibers when hot pressed. 3. The dimensional stability of layered-mat system panels consising of fiber-faces and particle-core was better the than control particleboard. 4. In composition methods of particle and fiber, layered-composition method was more resonable than mixed-composition. The Type B panel had the highest mechanical properties of all the composition types. 5. The Type A panel was considered the ideal composition method because of its resistance to delamination between the particle-layer and the fiber-layer and because of its lower adhesive content and more effective manufa cturing process.

Thermal Property of Phosphate Glasses for Low Firing Temperature in PDP

  • Replacing Pb-free glass composition for the dielectric materials is expected in PDP industry. In this study, phosphate glasses, $P_2O_5$- ZnO- SnO (PZS), $P_2O_5$-ZnO-BaO (PZB) were selected for a new transparent dielectric. Thermal properties (Tg, CTE) were measured with differential thermal analyzer and thermal mechanical analyzer. The glass transition of the glasses was ranged at $365{\sim}405^{\circ}C$ for the PZS system and $5.9{\sim}9.5{\times}\;10^{-6}$ of thermal expansion were found. The PZB system showed $445{\sim}470^{\circ}C$ of glass transition. Thus, the glass compositions would be a potential candidate for a transparent dielectric layer in plasma display panel.

  • In the last decade, increasing national research fund for recycling the waste FRP (fiber reinforced plastics) ships which has caused environmental problems, improves the technology making concrete-reinforcing fibers out of the waste FRP. Furthermore, the concrete with recycled FRP fiber was tested for the structural performance. Experimental strength tests show that use of recycled FRP powder does not reduce the compressive strength of high strength concrete, and does increase the fire resistance performance of high strength concrete significantly. But, the study in investigating the properties of recycled fiber powder from waste FRP has not been completed because of the absence of the method of separation of mat layer from the waste FRP. This study is to propose a new extracting method of the mat layer from waste FRP, which is the efficient and environment friendly system. and thus it is considered to be the useful recycling method for fire resistance high concrete products or structures.

  • Novel concept of sensor mat and its signal processing method is proposed for patient monitoring in medical application. Proposed sensor mat structure has sensing inner layer which has cross-linked arrangement using plastic optical fiber(POF). Large core diameter of plastic optical fiber behaved as band pass filter by averaging the noise component caused by unwanted environmental factors. Signal processor followed by sensor output added noise immune performance by filtering out unwanted component. Fail-proof patient breath monitoring scheme was realized by using intelligent decision algorithm. Unlike the conventional approach by using mechanical sensor, which have high sensitivity both to signal and to environmental noise, our approach provided reliable breath motion detection.

Farmer's friendly technique of raising mat type healthy seedling in cold environment

  • High mortality and slow growth of seedling generally occurred in tray due to cold, foggy weather and severe seedling blight. Mechanical transplanting is hampered, farmers having economic loss. A sustainable method for raising mat type seedling is necessary. Experiments were conducted on disease control and seedling growth in dry seasons. Fungicides treated/untreated seeds were sown 120-130g in each tray containing pulverized fine grain loam/sandy loam soils. Seed covered with a thin layer of soil and irrigated. It was polythene covered (PC) for 72h and then every night along with 2/3 sprinkler irrigation (SI) per day. Untreated seedlings infected 53-93%. Pyraclostrobin, Azoxystrobin and Azoxystrobin+Difeconazole treated seeds/sprayed (72h) seedlings had no disease. Seedling height was 11.7-13.2 cm with compact and thick root mat at 25 days. Seeds treated at 0.2-0.3% (18-20h) showed no disease but severely in untreated seeds in all locations. Seedling height (13.8 cm), leaf age (3.7) and root number (8.5) were better when NPK were applied at 3-4-3 g/tray. Spraying of urea (1%) in addition with MOP, theovit and $ZnSo_4$ at 0.6-0.6-0.2% on 7 and $15^{th}$ days was also effective. PC showed significant growth (29.1-34.5%). Root mat was not good in flooded irrigation (FI). Disease was higher in SI (66.7-97.3%) than FI (0.7-3.7%) in untreated seeds regardless of polythene use. The protocol would be effective for raising mat type seedling in cold environment.
