  • In this study, a new check valve was studied to improve the load pressure of a brake system with a small piezoelectric-hydraulic pump. During the pressurization process, the steady-state pressure at the load is affected by the ratio of the cross-sectional area of the check valve the chamber pressure and load pressure. Since the flow path cover of the check valve is made wider than the cross-sectional area of the output flow to prevent backflow, a method of reducing the area ratio is proposed for a higher load pressure by mounting an additional mass to a thin plate spring type check valve. To identify the effect of mounting an additional mass to the existing check valve on the load pressure, a simple brake system with a small piezoelectric-hydraulic pump was modeled using a commercial code AMESim. The AMESim modeling was verified by comparing the simulation results with the experimental results of the pump the existing check valve. The additional mass was added to the verified AMESim modeling and higher load pressure was able to be obtained through simulation. The 35% performance improvement in load pressure identified by carrying out pressurization test of the brake system after adopting the new check valve the small piezoelectric-hydraulic pump.

  • In this parer, characteristics of the flexible rail in levitation control system are analysed. The magnetic levitation system is an electromagnet type and is full-scaled vehicles. The system consists of electromagnet, chopper, flexible rail, secondary suspension system and levitation controller. The mathematical modelling for the whole system is carried out. Especially, the flexible rail is modelled using second-order mass-spring-damper system. Using the derived model, the dynamic characteristics for the system are presented with different vehicle speed.

  • Reaction force compensation (RFC) mechanism can relieve the vibration of base system caused by acceleration and deceleration of mover. In this paper, we propose a new passive RFC mechanism with a movable additional mass to reduce vibration of the system base as well as displacement of the magnet track. First, equation of motion for the new passive RFC mechanism is derived and simulated to tune design parameters such as masses and spring coefficients. Simulation results show that the vibration of the system base of the stage with the new RFC mechanism.

  • By virtue of an application of the receptance method, simplified formulae to calculate natural frequencies of stiffened plates having a resiliently mounted or concentrated mass are obtained. Some numerical results are compared with those based on Lagrange's equation of motion and with experimental results. For the problem formulation the stiffened plate is reduced to an equivalent orthotropic plate, a resiliently mounted mass to a spring-mass system, and mode shapes of the plate are assumed with comparison functions consisting of Euler beam functions. The proposed formulae give results in good conformity to both numerical results based on Lagrange's equation of motion and experimental results for in-phase modes of the coupled system. For out-of-phase modes the conformity is assured only in case that the natural frequency of the attached system is less than a half of that the stiffened plate. It is also found that a resiliently mounted mass having its own natural frequency of about two or more times that of the stiffened plate can be reduced to a concentrated mass with assurance of a few percent error in the frequency.

  • It is important to calculate the natural frequency of a piled structure in the design stage in order to prevent resonance-induced damage to the pile foundation and analyze the dynamic behavior of the piled structure during an earthquake. In this paper, a simple but relatively accurate method employing a mass-spring model is presented for the evaluation of the natural frequency of a pile-soil system. Greatly influencing the calculation of the natural frequency of a piled structure, the spring stiffness between a pile and soil was evaluated by using the coefficient of subgrade reaction, the p-y curve, and the subsoil elastic modulus. The resulting natural frequencies were compared with those of 1-g shaking table tests. The comparison showed that the natural frequency of the pile-soil system could be most accurately calculated by constructing a stiffness matrix with the spring stiffness of the Reese (1974) method, which utilizes the coefficient of the subgrade reaction modulus, and Yang's (2009) dynamic p-y backbone curve method. The calculated natural frequencies were within 5% error compared with those of the shaking table tests for the pile system in dry dense sand deposits and 5% to 40% error for the pile system in saturated sand deposits depending on the occurrence of excess pore water pressure in the soil.

  • This paper focused on the dynamic behavior of camshaft in a direct acting type valve train system. To investigate camshaft behavior, transient vibration analysis is performed by using the transfer matrix method. The camshaft is treated as lumped mass system supported by spring and damper. Front the presented analytical model, we could predict dynamic behavior of camshaft, shaft locus within bearing and bearing load. The presented mode and results will be very helpful to design the optimal camshaft and valve train system.

  • A modified repetitive control is formulated and analyzed in the discrete-time domain. Sufficient conditions for the stability of a class of repetitive controllers are given by means of the regeneration spectrum method. When a periodic signal input is drived into the two-mass-spring plant, the performance of the proposed controller which comprises a low-pass filter and two feed-forward compensators, turns out highly accurate by comparing the tracking result from the conventional LQ controller.

  • The vibration characteristics of fully and partially embedded piles with flexibly supported end carrying an eccentric tip mass are investigated. The pile model is based on the Bernoulli-Euler theory and the soil is idealized as a Winkler model for mathematical simplicity. The governing differential equations for the free vibrations of such members are solved numerically using the corresponding boundary conditions. The lowest three natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are calculated over a wide range of non-dimensional system parameters: the rotational spring parameter, the relative stiffness, the embedded ratio, the mass ratio, the dimensionless mass moment of inertia, and the tip mass eccentricity.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the effect of hot spring therapy on children weight, body composition and heart rate variability. Methods: The study was carried out from 30 children who visited the spa from August 1, 2011 to August 31, 2011. We measured the change of weight, body composition, and heart rate variability after hot spring therapy for an hour per day. Results: The subject was consisted of 13 boys and 17 girls. This study revealed that their weight got lost from a hot spring therapy, which was statistically significant. Their body mass index(BMI) was decreased in from a hot spring therapy, which was not statistically significant. Total body water, muscle, protein, and mineral were decreased from a hot spring therapy, which was statistically significant. We measured HRV(heart rate variability) before and after the hot spring therapy. The mean HRT was increased, which was statistically insignificant. SDNN(standard deviation of the NN interval) and RMSSD(square root of the mean of the sum of the square of differences) were not different before and after the hot spring therapy. ln TP was decreased insignificantly. ln VLF was not affected before and after hot spring therapy. ln LF and ln HF was decreased, LF norm was increased, and HF norm was decreased, which were not statistically significant. Also, LF/HF ratio was increased insignificantly. Conclusions: From these results, we concluded that the weight, total body water, muscle, protein, and mineral got lost from the hot spring therapy. However, the HRV was not affected from the hot spring therapy.
