  • In this study, Staphylococcus carnosus isolated from traditional sucuk (Turkish dry-fermented sausage) was used in combination with Lactobacillus plantarum as a lactic culture in sucuk production. Sucuk produced with only L. plantarum was evaluated as a control group. Microbiological, physicochemical, and volatile profile characteristics of sucuk samples were investigated during ripening. In both sausages with S. carnosus and control group, pH value decreased to below 5.0 at the $3^{rd}$ day. In all samples, Aw value decreased as the ripening time progressed. Sausages with S. carnosus showed the higher nonprotein nitrogen (NPN) value than control group. However, the highest mean value for thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) was observed in control group. Enterobacteriaceae dropped to undetectable levels at the $3^{rd}$ day in both groups. S. carnosus increased approximately 1 log unit within the first 3 days of the fermentation. In the presence of S. carnosus, significant changes were observed in only a few volatile compounds.

  • The main sources of interstellar dust are believed to be dust envelopes around AGB stars. The outflowing envelopes around the long period pulsating variables are very suitable place for massive dust formation. Oxygen-rich silicate dust grains or carbon-rich dust grains form in the envelopes around AGB stars depending on the chemical composition of the stellar surface. The dust grains expelled from AGB stars get mixed up and go through some physical and chemical changes in interstellar medium. There are similarities and differences between interstellar dust and dust grains in AGB stars. The mass cycle in the Galaxy may be best manifested by the fact that the dust grains at various regions have many similarities and understandable differences.

  • This paper presents a method of design for the energy harvesting of a piezoelectric cantilever beam. Vibration modes have strain nodes where the strain distribution changes in the direction of the beam length. Covering the strain nodes of the vibration modes with continuous electrodes effects a cancellation of the voltages outputs. The use of segmented electrodes avoids cancellations of the voltage for multi-mode vibration. The resistive load affects the voltage and generated power. The optimum resistive load is considered for segmented and continuous electrodes, and then the power output is verified. One of the effective parameters on energy harvesting performance is the existence of concentrated mass. This topic is studied in this paper. Resonance and off-resonance cases are considered for the harvester. In this paper, both theoretical and experimental methods are used for satisfactory results.

  • For many years it has been reported that seemingly benign neck cysts may contain carcinoma. Cystic metastases have often mistaken for either branchial cleft cysts or benign mass. Authors experienced two cases which presents cystic cervical metastatic cancer One was a tonsillar carcinoma and the other was a tongue carcinoma. Patients with a cystic squamous carcinoma in the neck likely have a primary in upper aero-digestive system and It is known that the tonsil is most common site. Radiologic examination and fine needle aspiration biopsy of the cyst proved to be non-diagnostic. The development of cervical lymph node metastases before clinical signs of carcinoma of the tonsil is also well recognized. So, in old patients, thorough head If neck examination, panendoscopy and ipsilateral tonsillectomy is mandatory to identify a primary carcinoma prior to cyst excision.

  • Headspace volatile compounds of oxidized fish oil were analyzed by the combination of hexane solvent or solid phase microextraction, gas chromatography and mass selective detector. The optimum condition of headspace analysis by hexane trapping was 23 min absorption time, 96$^{\circ}C$ sample temperature and 20 mL/min air flow rate. The numbers of volatile compounds identified by solvent trapping and SPME were 35 and 14, respectively. Groups having the largest amount and many kinds were hydrocarbons and aldehydes, respectively. The numbers of aldehydes were 15 and 6 for solvent trap and SPME, respectively. These basic data could be used as indicators for the quality changes of fish oil.

  • The diesel particulate filter(DPF) is effective for particulate removal from diesel engine under a variety of conditions, and then the regeneration strategies is very important in the aspects of engine fuel consumption and engine durability. This paper addresses the changes of Peugeot 406 vehicle engine parameters(fuel injection timing, period, rail pressure, emissions exhaust temperature so on) during DPF regeneration. additionally, checked the soot loading mass with mileage and the change of fuel consumption and performance with ash accumulation.

  • We investigated numerically the evolutions of several chemical species which are important for film growth and particle generation in the pulsed $SiH_4$ plasmas. During the plasma-on, the $SiH_x$ concentration increases with time mainly by the generation reaction from $SiH_4$, but, during the plasma-off, decreases because of the hydrogen adsorption reaction. During the plasma-on, the concentrations of negative ions increase with time by the polymerization reactions of negative ions and those become almost zero in the sheath regions because of the electrostatic repulsion. During the plasma-off, the concentrations of negative ions decrease with time by the neutralization reactions with positive ions and some negative ions can diffuse toward the sheath regions because there is no electric field inside the reactor. The polymerized negative ions of higher mass can be reduced successfully by using the pulsed plasma process.

  • Polypyrrole (PPy), Poly(N-methyl Pyrrole) (PMPy) and Poly(N-phenyl Pyrrole) (PPhPy) films in acetonitrile (Af and propylene carbonate (PC) have been compared focusing on their different ion and solvent transport behaviors. During the redox reaction of PPy films, cation, anion, and solvent take part in mass transport. Whereas during the redox reaction of PMPy and PPhPy films, anion and solvent transport are dominant but cation transport is negligible. In addition, solvent transport occurs in the same direction with cation transport for PPy films. On the other hand, solvent transport occurs in the opposite direction to anion transport for PMPy films, and it changes its amount and direction with the kind of the dopant anion and the solvent used at electropolymerization for PPhPy films.

  • The Earth is exposed to constant outflow of the solar wind from the outer layers of the Sun, and violent transient events taking place from active regions increase the energy flux of both radiation and particles leaving the Sun. Thus the space surrounding the Earth is a highly dynamic environment that responds sensitively to changes in radiation, particles and magnetic field arriving from the Sun. Nowadays, it becomes increasingly important to understand how the physical system of Earth-space works and how the space around the Earth connects to interplanetary space. In the present paper we describe how explosive solar events, such as CME(Coronal Mass Ejection) and flares affect the Earth-space environment and how the space weather reacts to them. Practical consequences are presented to demonstrate why a broader view of Earth's environment is greatly needed to cope with modern day's inhabitation problem in a rapidly developing space age.

  • A new multi-planar interpolation technique for three dimensional medical image rendering is proposed. In medical imaging. resolution in the slice direction is usually much lower than those in the transverse planes. The proposed method is based on the solution of the Laplace's equation used in the electrostatics. In this approach. two contours in the source and destination planes for a given object is assumed to have equi-potentials. Some preprocessing and post-processing including scaling. displacement. rotation from the centers of mass are involved in the algorithm. The interpolation solution assumes mostly smoothing changes in between the source and destination planes. Simultaneous multiple interpolation planes are inherently obtained in the proposed method. Some experimental and simulation results are shown.
