International societies are currently working together to achieve the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) initiative which aims the triple wins: (1) sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and incomes; (2) adapting and building resilience to climate change; and (3) mitigating greenhouse gases emissions. In terms of its scope and context, CSA follows the '3Nong (三農)' vision cast about 200 years ago by Dasan Jeong Yak-Yong who emphasized the triad of governance, management and monitoring towards comfortable, profitable and noble agriculture. Yet, the CSA provides the practical aims that facilitate the development of holistic indicators for quantitative evaluation and monitoring, on which decision-making support system is based. In this study, we introduce an agent-based model, i.e. Mathematical Programming Multi-Agent Systems (MP-MAS), as a tool for supporting the decision-making toward CSA. We have established the initial version of MP-MAS adapted for domestic use and present the preliminary results from an application to the rice farming case in Haenam, Korea. MP-MAS can support both farmers and policy-makers to consider diverse management options from multiple perspectives. When the modules for system resilience and carbon footprint are added, MP-MAS will serve as a robust tool that fulfills not only CSA but also Dasan's '3Nong' vision of sustainable agricultural-societal systems.

Background: There have been no studies to date on rhizome development and optimal harvest timing for Rehmannia glutinosa. We therefore, undertook this investigation. Methods and Results: R. glutinosa 'Jihwang 1' was sown in early May and harvested in early November. Growth investigations were carried out at intervals of 10 days between 90 and 180 days after sowing (DAS). Leaf length, leaf width, and number of leaves increased until 150 DAS but decreased after 160 DAS. Rhizome length increased until 120 DAS subsequently, rhizome diameter increased rapidly between 130 and 150 DAS. Thus, the key period for rhizome enlargement in R. glutinosa is thought to be 130 to 150 DAS. Fresh root yield increased sharply from 916 kg/10a to 1,914 kg/10a between 4 and 5 months after sowing (MAS). Dry matter ratio increased gradually from 19.2% at 4 MAS to 24.4% at 6 MAS. Finally, the level of catalpol, a key active ingredient, increased sharply from 0.41% to 4.21% between 5 and 6 MAS. Given the dry matter ratio, catalpol content and yield measured, we suggest that optimal R. glutinosa harvest time is 6 MAS. Conclusions: Based on our results, the key period for rhizome enlargement is 130 to 150 DAS and optimal harvest timing is 6 MAS. We anticipate that these and other results of this study can be used to inform cultivation of R. glutinosa.
Using the abundant available information about the tomato genome, we developed DNA markers that are linked to disease resistant loci and performed marker-assisted selection (MAS) to construct multi-disease resistant lines and varieties. Resistance markers of Ty-1, T2, and I2, which are linked to disease resistance to Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV), and Fusarium wilt, respectively, were developed in a co-dominant fashion. DNA sequences near the resistance loci of TYLCV, ToMV, and Fusarium wilt were used for primer design. Reported candidate markers for powdery mildew-resistance were screened and the 32.5Cla marker was selected. All four markers (Ty-1, T2, I2, and 32.5Cla) were converted to cleavage amplification polymorphisms (CAPS) markers. Then, the CAPS markers were applied to 96 tomato lines to determine the phenetic relationships among the lines. This information yielded clusters of breeding lines illustrating the distribution of resistant and susceptible characters among lines. These data were utilized further in a MAS program for several generations, and a total of ten varieties and ten inbred lines were constructed. Among four traits, three were introduced to develop varieties and breeding lines through the MAS program; several cultivars possessed up to seven disease resistant traits. These resistant trait-related markers that were developed for the tomato MAS program could be used to select early stage seedlings, saving time and cost, and to construct multi-disease resistant lines and varieties.
Objectives:The purpose of this study was to develop a cognitive rehabilitation program and to investigate the effect of the program that restores the deficiency of memory, which is necessary to operate on high cognitive function such as problem-solving or judgement, for TBI(traumatic brain injury) patients. Methods:Sixteen TBI patients participated in this study. The inclusion criteria were : 1) aged 18 to 60 ; 2) higher than IQ 80 ; 3) lower than MMSE-K 25 and K-MAS(Korean version of Memory Assessment Scale) 85. We administered our program to an experimental group(N=8) in order to improve attention and memory for 4 weeks(total 12 section). Our program was not administrated to a control group(N=8) for 4 weeks. After administrating this program, we measured MMSE-K and K-MAS for the experimental and control groups. Results:The findings of the study were as follows. 1) the experimental group showed significant improvement on MMSE-K score in comparison with baseline, but the control group did not. 2) the experimental group showed significant improvement on K-MAS score in comparison with baseline, but the control group did not. In particular, among the three subscales of K-MAS, only verbal memory scale revealed significant improvement, while visual and short-term memory scales revealed no differences. Conclusion:Our cognitive rehabilitation program improves cognitive state and memory, particulary verbal memory, for TBI patients. These results imply that our program aids in rehabilitation of basic cognition such as memory which is necessary to operate on high cognitive function such as problem-solving or judgement, for TBI(traumatic brain injury) patients.

Effects of the shape, the size and the material of head mass on performances of tonpilz transducer were studied with a finite element method. The shape of head mass was changed with an angle between symmetric axis and side of head mass of transducer from 0 to 60 degree. As a result of the simulations, the bandwidth leached to 86.4 % at 35.5 degree in case of Al head mass. The size of head mass showed a decrease in the power of transducer with little change of bandwidth. For the Ti head mass, the transmitted power showed 100 % increase with a bandwidth of 88.1 % even though the weight of the head mass increased to 167 % of Al. This can be attributed to the mechanical properties like elastic modulus of Ti relative to Al.
Recently, many patients in a hospital are threatened life by fire disaster. Because many patients like vulnerable people have more evacuation problem than ordinary person. So a patient who can escape by oneself with walking assistance device like crutches or wheelchair and another patient who can't escape by oneself are should be supported safety technologies and service. Earlier research of 'hospital evacuation' led by actual experiments or computer evacuation simulation. Actual experiment is effective to gain credibility of result but it is difficult for patients to experiment repeatedly and it requires consideration for spatial problem and economic problems. Although computer evacuation simulation have been used to solve these problems, almost have concluded only results based on velocity without evacuation device. In this study, evacuation results with support device application or not are analysed used by computer evacuation simulation based on MAS(Multi Agent System). As a result, it is drawn through proof of efficiency of evacuation device in the vertical space like stairs that can improve the evacuation plan for vulnerable people in the hospital.
Functionalized SAB-15 samples by octadecyltrimethoxysilane (OTC) were studied by 13C magic angle spinning (MAS) cross polarization (CP) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. In the SBA-15 sample fully functionalized by 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APS) and OTC in 1:1 molar ratio, octadecyl chains were observed to have, on average, more trans conformation than those in the SBA-15 samples fully modified by OTC only. Our results confirm that long chain molecules tend to organize themselves better in the co-presence of short chain molecules on the surface of mesoporous materials by packing of the different length chains in an interdigitized fashion even when the short chains are long enough to have three carbons and a functional group at the ends. In addition, our results indicate that solid-state 13C CP MAS NMR spectroscopy is a simple and non-destructive method to probe the molecular structures of the domains composed of long alkyl chains.
Carbon-13 CP-MAS NMR techniques were used to investigate dynamics of new combined type liquid crystalline polymers, poly[oxy-1,4-phenyleneoxy-2-{6-(4-(4-butylphenylazo)phenoxy)hexyloxy}terephthaloyl] and poly[oxy-1,4-phenyleneoxy-2-{10-(4-(4-butylphenylazo)phenoxy)decyloxy}terephthaloyl]. Noticeable mobility change of either aromatic groups or methylene groups is not detected between 25 ℃ and 82 ℃ from 13C spinlattice relaxation time in the rotating frame (T1ρ(C)) and contact time array experiments. However, line shape analysis shows the increase of mobility of methylene carbons in poly[oxy-1,4-phenyleneoxy-2-{6-(4-(4-butylphenylazo)phenoxy)hexyloxy}terephthaloyl] at higher temperature. The dynamics of side chanis does not seem to be affected in our experimental temperature range by the length of aliphatic chain which is connecting the side chain group to the main chain.
