Most of the researches on the view of marriage from 1970s until now have merely been the status survey to get a glimpse of thoughts on the marriage of the time. It is true that the recognitions of marriage in the recent days, especially those of the youth are going through a great deal of changes. However, it is also recognized that although westernized views on marriage recently are flooding in, still the traditional perspectives are firmly rooted underneath. Therefore, this study intended to predict the potential conflicts from diversified marital perspectives of the youth in the contemporary society applying the Korean views on marriage as an effort to develop views on marriage in scientific way, analyze the psychological problems before and after marriage, and pursue successful marriage to form a stable and desirable family. As for the method, questions were selected by 275 university students and the validity and reliability of marriage views by 1,283 married couples were examined. As a result, the following conclusions were made. The scale for Korean marriage values were summarized to six factors - 'traditional marriage', 'successful marriage', 'irrationality of marriage', 'necessity of marriage', 'cohabitation', and 'divorce and remarriage', showing high correlation with the existing scales, and the reliability coefficient of each subscale indicated as comparatively reliable with the value of Cronbach α=.88 at Cronbach α=.63.
This study is to explore how TV drama describes divorce process by the reason of extramarital relationship in the drama. To explore this subject, 30 drama synopses delineating extramarital relationship were analyzed. The results revealed that most of the couples had difficulties in emotional relationship and communication. The couples relationship was described traditionally patriarchal: husbands showed their authorities and wives showed dependency on their husbands. The partners of extramarital relationship were the lovers before current marriage. The patterns of extramarital relationship included 'intention to look for vitality despite satisfying current marriage' for the husbands and 'intention to avoid dissatisfied current marriage temporally' or 'to maintain marriage despite dissatisfaction' for the wives. For those who married 6 years and longer, more extramarital relationship was accepted as a terminator of the marriage. And in many cases, the divorce dose not mean to maintain the relationship with extramarital partner but to collapse of trust in partner. The results imply that the social work needs to be more sensitive to middle-class couples' communication and relationship problems. This will lead to the development of the social work intervention program for the couples.

In order to conduct this study grounded theory methods have been employed. The central phenomenon digged out from this study was 'resistance to baffled reality' (i. e. dislocation). The causal conditions which brought about the central phenomenon were 'escaping for survival' and 'experiencing the gap between reality and expectation. 'The intervening conditions included 'getting to know the reality of their husbands,' 'losing hope,' and 'not being able to pull themselves together.' The contextual conditions consisted of 'being treated as maids,' 'becoming victims of family violence,' 'making up their minds to survive,' 'securing future life,' 'being marginalized,' and 'being aware of themselves as strangers.' The action/interaction strategies on the central phenomenon were 'building support systems,' 'building up will for new life,' and 'reconstructing social identity.'The final outcome was 'arranging places of new settlement.' The divorce was classified as four types: 'coping and growth,' 'emancipation and settling down,' 'being overwhelmed by livelihood,' and 'continuous wandering.' This study aims to examine how newly married couple's financial position influence the decision of divorce by using data from the Korea Labor and Income Panel Study (KLIPS). In particular, we closely examine the period between marriage and divorce for the households married since 2000. As a measure of household financial position, we focus on hosing debts because it can be considered as one of the most important factors for newly married couples. The key findings are as follows. First of all, age for marriage, age gaps between husband and wife and education level have a vital influence on the decision of divorce. In addition, in general, the household debts have decisive and negative effects on the future divorce decision. Especially, not only high absolute amount of debt but also high relative debt to household total income bring about a decision of divorce. The findings of this study suggest that systematic debt relief policies for newly married couples would be needed to build healthy family.
