  • We noted a property of a stationary distribution on the matrix C, which is the covariance matrix of order statistics of standard normal distribution That is the sup norm of th powers of C is ee' divided by its dimension. The matrix C can be taken as a transition probability matrix in an acyclic Markov chain.

  • The control policy algorithm is examined and compared in this study. This research investigates a two state partially observable Markov chain in which only deterioration can occur and for which the only actions possible are to replace or to live alone. The goal of this research is to compare the computational efficiencies of control policy algorithm. One is Sondik's algorithms and the other one is jump algorithm.

  • Six land use data for a total of twenty five years were reviewed from 1975 to 2000 by dividing the period by 5-year unit; the land use variation was schematized; the watershed hydrological parameters were extracted by the representative rainfall years(maximum, average, driest year) by analyzing the recent thirty years'(from 1980 to 2010) climate data of the study region with SWAT model to investigate the effect of the precipitation change on the characteristics of groundwater recharge. In addition Markov Chain model was used to estimate the future land use; the predicted land use was applied to study the effect of the land use variation on the characteristics of groundwater recharge. For the research of this, long-term characteristics of groundwater recharge were estimated for the study region; the obtained results can be described as follows. The study region was divided into typical three area using SWAT model; yearly land use conditions were applied to the meteorological data of 1975 to 2010 and analyzed, producing the average rate of groundwater recharge of 30% for the applied period. This number is way lower than that of the earlier studies on the groundwater recharge for Jeju Island, which is 40-50%. Thirty percent (30%) is low considering the geological characteristics of Jeju, water-permeable vesicular strata, the reason of which must be the type of development is non-permeable paving.

  • As requirements of embedded system get complicated, the tool for analyzing the reliability of embedded software is being needed. A probabilistic modeling is used as the way of analyzing the reliability of a software and to apply it to embedded software controlling multiple devices. So, it is necessary to specialize that to embedded software. Also, existing reliability analyzers should measure the transition probability of each condition in different ways and doesn't consider reusing the model once used. In this paper, we suggest a reliability analyzer for embedded software using embedded software Markov chin model and a unit testing tool. Embedded software Markov chain model is model specializing Markov chain model which is used for analyzing reliability to an embedded software. And a unit testing tool has host-target structure which is appropriate to development environment of embedded software. This tool can analyze the reliability more easily than existing tool by automatically measuring the transition probability between units for analyzing reliability from the result of unit testing. It can also directly apply the test result updated by unit testing tool by representing software model as a XML oriented document and has the advantage that many developers can access easily using the web oriented interface and SVN store. In this paper, we show reliability analyzing of a example by so doing show usefulness of reliability analyzer.

  • Redundant handovers cause degraded quality of service to passengers in vehicle. This paper proposes a handover scheme suitable for users traveling in vehicles, which enables continuous learning of the handover process using a discrete-time Markov chain (DTMC). Through AdaBoost machine learning algorithm, the proposed handover scheme avoids unnecessary handover trials when a short dwell time in a target cell is expected or when the target cell is an intermediate cell through which the vehicle quickly passes. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the number of handover occurrences and maintains adequate throughput.

  • In this paper, we develop a spatiotemporal model to analysis of cellular user in underlay D2D communication by using stochastic geometry and queuing theory. Firstly, by exploring stochastic geometry to model the user locations, we derive the probability that the SINR of cellular user in a predefined interval, which constrains the corresponding transmission rate of cellular user. Secondly, in contrast to the previous studies with full traffic models, we employ queueing theory to evaluate the performance parameters of dynamic traffic model and formulate the cellular user transmission mechanism as a M/G/1 queuing model. In the derivation, Embedded Markov chain is introduced to depict the stationary distribution of cellular user queue status. Thirdly, the expressions of performance metrics in terms of mean queue length, mean throughput, mean delay and mean dropping probability are obtained, respectively. Simulation results show the validity and rationality of the theoretical analysis under different channel conditions.

  • The IEEE 802.15.6 standard is introduced to satisfy all the requirements for monitoring systems operating in, on, or around the human body. In this paper, analytical models are developed for evaluating the performance of the IEEE 802.15.6 CSMA/CA-based medium access control protocol for wireless body area networks (WBAN) under unsaturation condition. We employ a three-dimensional Markov chain to model the backoff procedure, and an M/G/1/K queuing system to describe the packet queues in the buffer. The throughput and delay performances of WBAN operating in the beacon mode are analyzed in heterogeneous network comprised of different user priorities. Simulation results are included to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed analytical model.

  • This paper analyzed the delay characteristics of speech packets in virtual cellular network(VCN). The probability distribution of packet delay is obtained using the markov chain model when periodic speech packets are transmitted by slotted-ALOHA protocol. The effects of probility of capture and retransmission policy on the performance were also analyzed. At first, the probability cumulative function of packet delay is calculated from the probability of capture as a function of location of mobile terminal. In order to investigate the effects of backoff delay, we defined a parameter NPr, where N is the period (frame size) of the speech packets and Pr is the retransmission probability for each speech packet. We also obtained the 1% outage delay for various frame size N.

  • In this paper, an algorithm that enhances the conventional directional CSMA/CA protocol in IEEE 802.15.3c is proposed under saturation environments. For the algorithm, a Markov chain model is presented and analyzed in no-ACK mode. The effects of directional antennas and the features of IEEE 802.15.3c MAC are considered in the model. The optimal sizes of contention window are derived from the numerical results. The numerical results show that the proposed directional CSMA/CA algorithm outperforms conventional one. The overall analysis is verified by simulation. The obtained results provide the criterion for selecting the optimal parameters and developing a MAC protocol that enhances the performance of mmWave WPANs.

  • Pictorial Structures is known as an effective method that recognizes and tracks human poses. In this paper, the upper body pose is also tracked by PS and a particle filter(PF). PF is one of dynamic programming methods. But Markov chain-based dynamic motion model which is used in dynamic programming methods such as PF, couldn't predict effectively the highly articulated upper body motions. Therefore PF often fails to track upper body pose. In this paper we propose the key pose-based proposal distribution for proper particle prediction based on the similarities between key poses and an upper body silhouette. In the experimental results we confirmed our 70.51% improved performance comparing with a conventional method.
