A Study on the Marker Tracking for Virtual Construction Simulation based Mixed-Reality (융합현실 기반의 가상건설 시뮬레이션을 위한 마커 추적 방식에 관한 연구)

  • The main object of this study was to find a way to operate the marker for simulating a virtual construction using a MR(mixed reality) device. The secondary object was to find a way to extract the form-data from BIM data, and to represent the virtual object by the MR device. A tiny error of scale causes large errors of length because the architectural objects are very large. The scale was affected by the way that the camera of the MR device recognizes the marker. The method of installing and operating the marker causes length errors in the virtual object in the MR system. The experimental results showed that the error factor of the Virtual object's length was 0.47%. In addition, the distance between the markers can be decided through the results of an experiment for the multi-marker tracking system. The minimum distance between markers should be more than 5 m, and the error of length was approximately 23mm. If the represented virtual object must be less than 20mm in error, the particular mark should be installed within a 5 m radius of it. Based on this research, it is expected that utilization of the MR device will increase for the application of virtual construction simulations to construction sites.

Development of Material Deformation Measurement System using Machine Vision (머신 비전을 활용한 재료 변형 측정 기술 개발)

  • In this study, the deformation of materials was measured using the video and tracking API of OpenCV. Circular markers attached to the material were selected the region of interests (ROIs). The position of the marker was measured from the area center of the circular marker. The position and displacement of the center point was measured along the image frames. For the verification, tensile tests were conducted. In the tensile test, four circular markers were attached along the longitudinal and transverse directions. The strain was calculated using the distance between markers both in the longitudinal and transverse direction. As a result, the stress-strain curve obtained using machine vision is compared to the stress-strain curve obtained from the DIC results. RMSE values of the strain from the machine vision and DIC were less than 0.005. In addition, as a measurement example, a bending angle and springback measurement according to bending deformation, and a moving position measurement of a punch, a blank holder, and a die by time change were performed. Using the proposed method, the deformation and displacement of the materials were measured precisely and easily.

  • An augmented book is an application that augments such multimedia elements as virtual 3D objects generated by computer graphics, movie clips, or sound clips to a real book using AR technologies. It is intended to bring additional education and entertainment effects to users. For augmented books, this paper proposes an adaptive keyframe-based page tracking method to estimate the camera's 6 DOF pose in real-time after recognizing a page and performing wide-baseline keypoint matching. For a page tracking, proposed method in this paper chooses a proper keyframe and performs a tracking in two step of coarse-to-fine stage. As a result, the proposed method in this paper guarantees a robust tracking to view-point and illumination variations and real-time.

A Database Creation and Retrival Method of Feature Descriptors for Markerless Tracking (마커리스 트래킹을 위한 특징 서술자의 데이터베이스 생성 및 검색방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel database creation and retrieval method of feature descriptors to support real-time marker-less tracking in the augmented reality environments. Each feature descriptor is encoded by integer and multi-level database is created in order to retrieve a feature descriptor efficiently. The retrieval of a feature descriptor is performed as follows: Firstly, candidate feature descriptors are searched by traversing the multi-level database. Secondly, the euclidean distance between input feature descriptor and each candidate one is compared. The shortest one is retrieved. The proposed method is 16 ms faster than previous KD-Tree method for each feature descriptor.

Clinical outcome of fiducial-less CyberKnife radiosurgery for stage I non-small cell lung cancer

  • Purpose: To evaluate the treatment results in early stage non-small cell lung cancer patients who have undergone fiducial-less CyberKnife radiosurgery (CKRS). Materials and Methods: From June 2011 to November 2013, 58 patients underwent CKRS at Asan Medical Center for stage I lung cancer. After excluding 14 patients, we retrospectively reviewed the records of the remaining 44 patients. All analyses were performed using SPSS ver. 21. Results: The median age at diagnosis was 75 years. Most patients had inoperable primary lung cancer with a poor pulmonary function test with comorbidity or old age. The clinical stage was IA in 30 patients (68.2%), IB in 14 (31.8%). The mean tumor size was 2.6 cm (range, 1.2 to 4.8 cm), and the tumor was smaller than 2 cm in 12 patients (27.3%). The radiation dose given was 48-60 Gy in 3-4 fractions. In a median follow-up of 23.1 months, local recurrence occurred in three patients (2-year local recurrence-free survival rate, 90.4%) and distant metastasis occurred in 13 patients. All patients tolerated the radiosurgery well, only two patients developing grade 3 dyspnea. The most common complications were radiation-induced fibrosis and pneumonitis. Eight patients died due to cancer progression. Conclusion: The results showed that fiducial-less CKRS shows comparable local tumor control and survival rates to those of LINAC-based SABR or CKRS with a fiducial marker. Thus, fiducial-less CKRS using Xsight lung tracking system can be effectively and safely performed for patients with medically inoperable stage I non-small cell lung cancer without any risk of procedure-related complication.

Analysis on the Positional Accuracy of the Non-orthogonal Two-pair kV Imaging Systems for Real-time Tumor Tracking Using XCAT (XCAT를 이용한 실시간 종양 위치 추적을 위한 비직교 스테레오 엑스선 영상시스템에서의 위치 추정 정확도 분석에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we aim to design the architecture of the kV imaging system for tumor tracking in the dual-head gantry system and analyze its accuracy by simulations. We established mathematical formulas and algorithms to track the tumor position with the two-pair kV imaging systems when they are in the non-orthogonal positions. The algorithms have been designed in the homogeneous coordinate framework and the position of the source and the detector coordinates are used to estimate the tumor position. 4D XCAT (4D extended cardiac-torso) software was used in the simulation to identify the influence of the angle between the two-pair kV imaging systems and the resolution of the detectors to the accuracy in the position estimation. A metal marker fiducial has been inserted in a numerical human phantom of XCAT and the kV projections were acquired at various angles and resolutions using CT projection software of the XCAT. As a result, a positional accuracy of less than about 1mm was achieved when the resolution of the detector is higher than 1.5 mm/pixel and the angle between the kV imaging systems is approximately between $90^{\circ}$ and $50^{\circ}$. When the resolution is lower than 1.5 mm/pixel, the positional errors were higher than 1mm and the error fluctuation by the angles was greater. The resolution of the detector was critical in the positional accuracy for the tumor tracking and determines the range for the acceptable angle range between the kV imaging systems. Also, we found that the positional accuracy analysis method using XCAT developed in this study is highly useful and will be a invaluable tool for further refined design of the kV imaging systems for tumor tracking systems.

Effectiveness of the Respiratory Gating System for Stereotectic Radiosurgery of Lung Cancer (Lung Cancer의 Stereotactic Radiosurgery시 Respiratory Gating system의 유용성에 대한 연구)

  • Introduction : For stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) of a tumor in the region whose movement due to respiration is significant, like Lung lower lobe, the gated therapy, which delivers radiation dose to the selected respiratory phases when tumor motion is small, was peformed using the Respiratory gating system and its clinical effectiveness was evaluated. Methode and Materials : For two SRS patients with a tumor in Lung lower lobe, a marker block (infrared reflector) was attached on the abdomen. While patient' respiratory cycle was monitored with Real-time Position Management (RPM, Varian, USA), 4D CT was performed (10 phases per a cycle). Phases in which tumor motion did not change rapidly were decided as treatment phases. The treatment volume was contoured on the CT images for selected treatment phases using maximum intensity projection (MIP) method. In order to verify setup reproducibility and positional variation, 4D CT was repeated. Result : Gross tumor volume (GTV) showed maximum movement in superior-inferior direction. For patient $\#$1, motion of GTV was reduced to 2.6 mm in treatment phases ($30\%\~60\%$), while that was 9.4 mm in full phases ($0\%\~90\%$) and for patient $\#$2, it was reduced to 2.3 mm in treatment phases ($30\%\~70\%$), while it was 11.7 mm in full phases ($0\%\~90\%$). When comparing two sets of CT images, setup errors in all the directions were within 3 mm. Conclusion : Since tumor motion was reduced less than 5 mm, the Respiratory gating system for SRS of Lung lower lobe is useful.
