  • Clean Natural is a new disinfectant of which main components are propolis and wood vinegar from Quercus mongolica. To evauate the bacterial reverse mutation of Clean Watural, the in vitro Ames test using Salmonella typhimurium TA98, TA100, TA102, TA1535 and TA1537 were performed with clean natural at the concentrations 0, 5, 2.5, and 1.25 mg/ml/plate. Clean Natural was negative in Ames test with Salmonella typhymuyium with and without rat liver microsomal enzyme (S-9 fraction). These results indicate that Clean Watural does not cause bacterial reverse mutation.

  • Coastal fisheries in Korean waters have highly complexity with a variety of fishing gears, and scale of those fisheries is smaller than that of offshore fisheries. As a result, important spawning and nursery grounds for many species of fish has been destroyed. The pragmatic ecosystem-based approach was developed for the assessment of fisheries resources in Korean waters by Zhang et al. (2009; 2010). As for the species risk index (SRI), common squid caught by coastal gillnet in the Uljin region had the highest risk. As for the fisheries risk index (FRI), coastal gillnet in the Uljin coastal waters had the highest risk. For the common squid which had the highest SRI, resources management strategies must be established such as catch prohibition of length and period with TAC. For the coastal gillnet in the Uljin region which had the highest FRI, it is judged to need management plans for conserving biodiversity as reducing the catch of non-target species and discards. Also to protect existing habitat, illegal fishery should be prohibited, and fishing gears should be designed in the environmental-friendly way considering when fishing gears lost.

  • For environment-friendly fishery, the lead sinkers of octopus drift line were developed with the environmentfriendly sinker, and their characteristics and performance were investigated. To make the environmentfriendly sinker, the hydrate ceramic material was developed, and to increase the weight and strength, the iron power was added to it. The fishing hook was machine-made, and standardized, by using 60cm iron wire. For the manufacture of the sinker, the first, the mold was made, and then, hydrate ceramic material and water were quantitatively mixed. The mixture was poured into the mold prepared with a fishing hook already inserted, and had hardened for several hour, before it was taken out of the mold as a complete sinker. The sinkers were made in the 8 types ranging in weight from 150 to 500g, and their specific gravities were diverse from 2.871 to 6.637, which was 0.19 to 0.44 times lower than that of lead. The movement of the environment-friendly sinker by flume tank was possible in the weaker current speed than the similar lead sinker. In the coastal fishing grounds of Gangwon province, the comparison of catching efficiency was made between the improved fishing gears composed of the environment-friendly sinkers and artificial baits, and the current used fishing gears of lead sinkers and pig-fat baits. The result showed the tendency in which the improved fishing gears caught the bigger octopuses than the current used fishing gears. In the quantity and number of the fish catch per unit fishing gear, the improved fishing gear showed a little more catch than the current used fishing gear, regardless of the fishing area. However, the number of the improved fishing gears lost during fishing operation was similar to that of the current used fishing gears.

  • Blue-Min was initially developed as an adsorbent for harmful gas removal and recently improved to apply to livestock, agriculture and aquaculture as an assistant feed. In the Blue-Min treatment, growth of harmful algae (Cochlodinium polykrikoides and the others causing the red-tide in the ocean) were inhibited below 10% in comparison with control and coagulation removal of harmful alge with Blue-Min treatment was more efficient than that of yellow loess treatment. It would be expected that the Ble-Min can be useful for the extirpator against the red-tide organisms and restrain the toxic algal growth around the fish aquaculture using the assistant feed. Recently, its utility has become to be diverse as it was revealed that aquaculture productivity increase by its application and, in addition, that it improve the water quality or sediment conditions in the aquaculture of Chinese White Shrimp. When Blue-Min was treated with the proper dose, the growth inhibition of Microcystis aeruginosa and lsochrysis galbana, which are typical red-tide organisms in freshwaters and food organisms in aquaculture, respectively, were less than that of marine red-tide organisms, while their growth slightly increased with low concentration treatiment. In addition, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) content of I. galbana slightly increase with the Blue-Min treatment. Through our research, the Blue-Min has diverse and comples function against various biological organisms and is proved as a biological activator or depressor.

  • Five cases of Diphyllobothrium latum infection were proved by collection of worms after treatment with bithionol, niclosamide or praziquantel, during 1975~1983. The patients were 4 males and one female aged 10~64 years residing in Seoul or Wando-gun, Chollanam-do, Korea. All of them remembered the history of eating several kinds of raw marine fish and 2 persons said they ate the raw mesh of perch, Lateolabrax japcnicus. Three amcnE them experienced abdominal pain, 2 natural discharge of a chain of segments, but none revealed any sign of anemia. The average egg size in stool varied $59~67{\times}41~48{\mu\textrm{m}}$ according to cases. The eggs were characterised by ovoid to elliptical shape, terminal operculum, and distinct abopercular protuberance. One naturally discharged segment (30cm) and 4 complete strobilae (320~680cm) with scolices obtained after treatments were examined. The morphological characters of proglottids such as rosette-form uterus with 3~6 loops, vaginal pore included in the cirrus sac, separated seminal vesicle from cirrus sac, etc. were all compatible with D. latum. These are the 7th~11th cases of D. latum infection proved by worms in Korea.

  • Acoustic and ichthyoplankton data collected from Shelikof Strait in 1981, 1984 and 1985 were examined to determine spawning ground and period of walleye pollock, Theragra chalcogramma. Walleye pollock in the Gulf of Alaska migrated into Shelikof Strait for spawning during late winter and early spring. They entered Shelikof Strait via the warm and saline deep layer (continental slope water mass) in the southwestern channel, and major fish schools concentrated for spawning along the deep trough (250~300m) in the western part of the central strait. Peak spawning activity occurred there from late March to early April. Peak spawning time and area in Shelikof Strait varied little between years, despite difference in hydrography. Geographical advantages together with some oceanographic phenomena (reduced water transport and reduced mixed layer depth in spring) made that area an optimal spawning ground in the Gulf of Alaska during early April. After early April, spawning intensity decreased rapidly and the spawning area tended to expand to the northeast and southwest.

  • In order to estimate the degree of genetic divergence between the two types of finespotted flounder, Pleuronichthys cornutus which is important commercially in Japan, isozyme analysis was carried out by starch gel electrophoresis. Twenty two loci coding for fourteen enzymes were scored in two types of finespotted flounder and three completely divergent loci (Acp, Idh-2 and Mdh-2), with no common alleles, were observed between these two types. Nei's genetic distance between two types was 0.46592. However, the expected average heterozygosity was 0.120 in type A (Hon meitagarei) and 0.095 in type B (Bake meitagarei) These results mean that the existence of two types of finespotted flounder was established in this study which may have had genetic divergence and the divergence time of these two types may have been about $2.3{\times}10^6$ years ago.

  • In the virtual space with the interactive 3D contents, the degree of mental satisfaction is determined by how fully it reflect the real world. There are a few factors for getting the high completeness of virtual space. The first is the modeling technique with high-polygons and high-resolution textures which can heighten an visual effect. The second is the functionality. It is about how realistic represents dynamic actions between the virtual space and the user or the system. Although the studies on the techniques for animating and controlling the virtual characters have been continued, there are problems such that the long production time, the high cost, and the animation without expected behaviors. This paper suggest a method of behavior control of animation by designing the optimized skeleton which produces the movement of character and applying the procedural technique using physical law and mathematical analysis. The proposed method is free from the constraint on one-to-one correspondence rules, and reduce the production time by controlling the simple parameters, and to increase the degree of visual satisfaction.

  • A bacterial strain capable of hydrolyzing sulfate ester bonds in p-nitrophenyl sulfate and agar was isolated from the Southeast coast of Korea. The isolated strain (AS6330) is aerobic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped, and motile. Octadecanoic acid was the major cellular fatty acid in the isolate. An almost complete 16S rDNA sequence of the isolate was determined and the sequence similarity of the 16S rDNA with those of known Sphingomonas spp. was found to be at most $96.4\%$, implying that the isolate was a new Sphingomonas species. The organism was grown optimally at NaCl concentration of $1.5-3.5\%$. Optimum culture conditions were determined to be $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0 for 48 h fermentation using a laboratory fermentor under constant culture conditions. Partially purified arylsulfatase through Q-Sepharose and phenylSepharose chromatographies catalyzed hydrolysis of sulfate ester bonds in agar, and $97\%$ of sulfates in agar were removed after 4 h reaction at $45^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0. The arylsulfatase from the isolated bacterium might be useful for the removal of sulfate groups in agar.

  • This paper is to investigate the effect of the immersion time in the traditional hairtail hand line for developing the fishing methods and the fishing gear in the coast of jeju. The operating of 32 times was made with each different immersion time of hairtail hand line, and the relations between the catch and the immersion time were examined. As the result, targeted species rate was over 98% of total catch. From about 800 seconds after casting, the hooking rate was decreased and the bite loss rate was increased, it seems to be made by the decreasing factors of predators including the cutting of branch lines etc. In addition, it was supposed that the hooking rate and the bait loss rate had a deep connection with feeding time zone. The level of the correlation coefficient of the bait loss rate according to the immersion time was 0.54 at $p{\leq}0.01$, in the case of the hooking rate, 0.59 was chosen after about 800 seconds. The hooking rate and the bait loss rate according to the hook number were not irrelevant to the fish school layer. Additionally, it was assumed that the bait loss rate was related to the depth of water.
