제주도 주요 하천에 서식하는 은어(Plecoglossus altivelis)의 번식 특성 비교 (Comparison of the Reproductive Characteristics of Sweetfish Plecoglossus altivelis in the Main Streams of Jeju Island)

  • We investigated the reproductive characteristics of the sweetfish Plecoglossus altivelis, including changes in the gonadosomatic index (GSI), frequency of gonad developmental stages, and abundance of drifting larvae, in three streams (Gangjeong, Yeonoi, and Ongpo) on Jeju Island from May 2004 to December 2005. The GSI values of female P. altivelis in all Jeju streams began to increase in September and reached a maximum in October and November. Peak GSI values in males occurred in Gangjeong from October to November, in Yeonoi from November to January, and in Ongpo from September to October. The gonadal development of P. altivelis was classified into four stages: growth (March to October), maturity (September to December in females; July to December in males), spawning (September to January), and degeneration (October to March in females; after November in males). Drifting larvae were collected from October to January. These results suggest that the main spawning activity of P. altivelis in Jeju streams occurs from October to November. The information about the reproductive characteristics of P. altivelis obtained in this study is critical to fishery management for this species.

해양의 부착 미세조류 분류군 현황 및 선체부착 연구의 중요성 (Status of Attachment Microalgae Taxa in the Korean Sea and Importance of their Research on Hull Ship Fouling)

  • Microalgae can attach to the surface of ships and then spread to various areas by means of ship transport. The introduction of invasive species through ships is recognized as a marine problem worldwide. Identification of attached microalgae is necessary to investigate such movement between countries through ships. In the present study, through analytical methods we reviewed research data to identify the taxa of domestic attached microalgae and assess the ecological impacts of such microalgae. A total of 87 genera and 153 species (143 species of diatoms, 10 species of cyanobacteria, and 4 genera of dinoflagellates) were identified as native attached microalgae in Korea, and diatoms accounted for 93% of the total. Most of these attached microalgae were identified through research on natural substrates such as seaweeds and bedrock, and some were also identified through experiments using artificial adherent plates. To date, there is no information on microalgae attached to international ships and introduced into Korea. Molecular genetic analysis and systematic management through on-site sampling of international ships, microscopic analysis, and meta-barcoding are necessary to assess the inflow and spread path of hull-attached marine alien species and evaluate the risk they pose to the domestic ecosystem.

독도 해양자료의 통합적인 관리를 위한 GIS 데이터 모델 수립 (Building GIS Data Model for Integrated Management of The Marine Data of Dokdo)

  • 독도에 대한 연구는 여러 분야에서 수행되고 있으나, 독도의 해양연구 자료에 대한 체계적인 관리와 지속적인 축적이 미흡한 실정이다. 특히 독도 및 독도주변해역의 해양환경 및 해양생태계 등 해양과학 자료의 체계적인 데이터베이스가 구축되지 못하였다. 따라서 독도 해양조사자료의 체계적인 관리와 효율적인 활용을 위한 공간기반의 GIS 데이터베이스 구축이 요구되며, 이를 수행하기 위한 설계 단계에서 GIS 기반의 해양데이터 모델 수립이 필요하였다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 해양관측자료를 수집하여 데이터 종류와 특성에 따라 GIS 기반의 프레임워크 자료(framework data), 연구조사자료(research data) 및 주제도 자료(thematic data) 등 세 개의 그룹으로 분류하였다. 또한 각 연구조사자료의 속성은 GIS 프레임워크 자료와 연계되도록 설계하였다. 이와 같은 통합적인 GIS 데이터 모델 수립의 연구 결과는 향후 독도 뿐 아니라, 다른 해역에서 관측된 해양연구자료의 관리시스템 개발에도 적용될 수 있을 것이다.

Plasma와 MPUV를 이용한 평형수관리장치의 배출수에 대한 해양생태독성 및 해양환경위해성에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Marine Eco-toxicity and Environmental Risk of Treated Discharge Water from Ballast Water Management System using Plasma and MPUV)

  • MPUV와 Plasma를 사용하여 선박의 평형수를 처리하는 ARA Plasma BWTS가 개발되었으며, 이로부터 방류되는 배출수가 해양생태계 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 Skeletonema costatum, Tigriopus japonicus 및 Paralichthys olivaceus를 이용하여 배출수독성시험과 생성된 화학물질에 대한 환경위해성을 평가하였다. 34 psu 배출수는 P. olivaceus에 대하여 미약한 만성 독성영향을 보였다($7d-LC_{50}{\Rightarrow}100.00%$ 배출수, $7d-LC_{25}{\Rightarrow}85.15%$ 배출수). 34 psu 배출수에서 Bromobenzene, chlorobenzene과 4-chlorotoluene이 해수의 배경농도보다 높게 검출되었다. MAMPEC을 이용한 Bromobenzene, chlorobenzene과 4-chlorotoluene의 PEC 산출결과는 각각 3.34E-03, 2.10E-03 및 1.73E-03 ${\mu}g\;L^{-1}$이었고, PNEC는 1.6, 0.5 및 1.9 ${\mu}g\;L^{-1}$였다. 세 화학물질의 PEC/PNEC 비율은 1을 초과하지 않았고, PBT 특성을 보이지 않았다. 따라서 WET test 결과와 환경위해성평가결과는 ARA Plasma BWTS에 의하여 처리된 해수가 해양생태계에 수용 불가한 영향을 미치지 않을 것임을 시사하였다.

진해만의 수산생산량과 해양생태계 지표의 장기 변동 및 기후변화 요인 분석 (Analysis of Long-term Changes for Fisheries Production and Marine-Ecosystem Index in Jinhae Bay Considering Climate Change)

  • 진해만은 우리나라 남해 연안의 주요 어장으로서, 여전히 전체 수산생산량에서 적지 않은 기여를 창출하고 있다. 그러나, 수십 년간 산업개발과 고수온과 같은 환경변화로 인하여 진해만의 해양생태계는 과거와 달라지고 있다. 본 연구는 2005년부터 2022년까지 진해만 연안 5개 시군구의 수산생산량, 폐기량, 평균영양단계 및 어업균형지수를 분석하였으며, ARIMA 모델을 이용하여 2027년까지 단기적인 변동 추세를 함께 관찰하였다. 그 결과, 고성지역은 2027년까지 지속적으로 수산생산량이 감소할 것으로 예측되었다. 통영지역은 이매패류의 부산물 처리가 필요한 것으로 평가된다. 해양생태계 지표의 경우, 통영지역에서는 대형 어류 생산 비중이 회복되고, 어업균형지수가 0 이상을 나타내어 해양생태계 구조가 안정적인 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 IPCC의 기후변화 시나리오에 따라 2060년까지 진해만의 부어성 어종 6종의 생산량 변동 추이를 비교하였으며, 2020년대 초반 2만 ton 부근까지 감소했던 생산량은 2020년대와 2040년대에 4만 ton 부근 가까이 회복한 후, 2060년까지 점진적인 감소 경향을 나타내는 것으로 예측되었다.

전남 남부 반폐쇄적인 내만 갯벌 퇴적물의 지화학적 특성 (Geochemical Characteristics of Intertidal Sediment in the Semi-enclosed Bays of the Southern Region of Jeollanam Province)

  • To understand the geochemical characteristics of intertidal sediment in a semi-enclosed bay, we measured various geochemical parameters, including grain size, ignition loss (IL), chemical oxygen demand (COD), acid volatile sulfide (AVS), and trace metals (Al, Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Hg, and As), in intertidal sediment from three bays (Deukryang Bay, Yeoja Bay, and Gamak Bay) in the southern region of Jeollanam Province. The intertidal sediment in Deukryang Bay consisted of various sedimentary types, such as sand, gravelly muddy sand, mud, and silt, whereas the intertidal sediments in Yeoja and Gamak Bays were composed mainly of mud. The concentrations of IL, COD, AVS and trace metals in the intertidal sediments of the three study regions were relatively high near areas affected by input of stream waters and/or shellfish farming waste. The concentrations of organic matter and trace metals in Gamak Bay were much higher than those in Deukryang and Yeoja Bays, which appears to be due to the influence of anthropogenic pollutants, originating from the city and the industrial complex near Gamak Bay. The evaluation results of organic matter and metal pollution using the sediment quality guidelines showed that the intertidal sediments in the three study regions were not polluted in terms of organic matter and trace metals. In future, sustainable management for sources of organic matter and trace metal is necessary to conserve a healthy benthic ecosystem in intertidal sediments.

한반도 연안 퇴적물의 중금속 배경농도 및 오염도 평가 (Background Concentration and Contamination Assessment of Heavy Metals in Korean Coastal Sediments)

  • 2016~2017년 '국가해양생태계 종합조사(연안생태계)'에서 얻어진 495개의 퇴적물 중금속 자료를 이용하여 한반도 연안 퇴적물의 중금속 배경농도를 산정하고 오염도를 평가하였다. 퇴적물 입도를 나타내는 지시자로 Al, Cs, Li이 적절하였으며, 이 들과 중금속 농도 사이의 관계에서 이상치 제거 및 잔차 분석을 통하여 가장 낮은 기울기의 자료를 선택하여 중금속과 지시자 사이의 회귀 직선으로 배경농도를 표시하였다. 기존 연구에서의 배경농도와 본 연구의 결과는 비교적 잘 일치하였으며, 본 연구에서는 As 및 Cd에 대해 처음으로 제시하였고, 지시자로 Li을 사용한 배경농도 식을 처음으로 제시하였다.

지속적 어업을 위한 시장기반 수산자원관리 연구 (A study on the market-based fisheries resource management for the sustainable fishery)

  • The market-based fisheries resources management system was reviewed and the improvement scheme was studied for seeking the sustainability of marine ecosystems and their fisheries resources. A demand-side policy is currently emerging to the management of fisheries resources by reducing over-exploitation, based on the consumer's selection. The role of consumers in the sustainable fishery was studied by comparing the social responsibility and consumer's activity between Korea and foreign countries and international NGO groups, based on the FAO guideline. The adoption of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)'s eco-labelling certificate was suggested by expanding the existing environment-friendly certification system in Korea. This new system will contribute to the protection of young immature fish and spawners in coastal and offshore fisheries as well as to the international trade of seafood in terms of fish products from well-managed fisheries. It is noted that the consumer's activities in the markets as regulators will contribute to the ecosystem health and sustainability.

폐어구 발생 실태 및 체계적 관리 방향 (Current Problems of Derelict Fishing Gear and Systematic Management Directions)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement directions and strategies for the minimization of ex-post damage and prevention of the generation of derelict fishing gear which lead to decreased fisheries resources and deteriorated marine ecosystem through ghost fishing and damaging spawning and growth grounds. Current problems related to derelict fishing gear in Korea are lack of reliable data on the generation amount of derelict fishing gear, absence of life-cycle monitoring and management system, insufficient supports for derelict fishing gear collection programs and R&D investment in environmentally friendly fishing gear, etc. Thus, this study suggests three basic improvement directions to prevent the generation and minimize the damage of derelict fishing gear. Such improvement directions contain more detailed strategies such as establishment of fishing gear management law and life-cycle management system, strengthening entry regulations on fisheries causing serious ghost fishing problems, increased supports for R&D investment and dissemination of bio-degradable fishing nets, and promotion of voluntary agreements among competing fishermen's groups.

Local activation using traditional knowledge and ecological resources of Korean islands

  • When we consider changes in agro-fishery systems instigated by environmental changes in islands, rise in sea levels, and natural disasters such as tsunamis, there is an urgent need to carry out initiatives to enhance life standard and conserve ecosystem in island and coastal regions. To protect the region's landscape from the effects of climate change, it is necessary to develop an integrated management system for ecosystem conservation, human settlements, and the local economy. This paper discusses the outline of a preliminary national plan for a sustainable island management system for remote (inhabited and uninhabited) islands in Korea. Two main ideas to enhance life standard are adapting to the natural environment by applying traditional knowledge and utilizing ecological resources of islands, i.e., improving the quality of life and creating added value. As a technique for improving the quality of life, the establishment of eco-villages based on energy-efficient passive houses and ecological welfare is suggested. Another technique for creating added value, the development of sea-farming islands that utilize islands' new recyclable energy is also proposed. Finally, the suggested ideas are discussed in relation to island ecotourism and carbon zero islands.
