  • The management of malignant tumors of the oral cavity requires that the resection should be performed with adequate negative margins. To this end, the surgeon is sometimes required to increase the access to the oral cavity to resect with clear margins although most of our resections can be carried via the transoral route. This article highlights some of the most common surgical accesses to the oral cavity: Peroral approach, mandibulotomy and mandibular swing approach, visor flap approach, upper & lower cheek flap approach, pull-through technique. Also, various modes of management are grossly described according to primary site, size, and stage of the tumors.

  • A new distribution of Trichosanthes cucumeroides (Ser.) Maxim. ex Franch. & Sav. is discovered in Korea. This species was collected from forest margins on Ando Island, Ando-ri, Nam-myeon, Yeosu-si, in Jeollanam-do. T. cucumeroides is clearly distinguished from other species of the genus by having three- or five-lobed leaf blades, linear-lanceolate and minute bracts with entire margins, and oblong to triangular-ovoid seeds. Here, we provide precise description, a taxonomic key to the Korean Trichosanthes species, illustrations, and photographs of its habitat. The Korean name for the species is established as 'Bul-geun-ha-neul-ta-ri' considering the reddish color of its fruit.

  • There is a trade-off between read stability and writability under a full-/half-select condition in static random access memory (SRAM). Another trade-off in the minimum operating voltage between the read and write operation also exists. A new peripheral circuit for SRAM arrays, called a variation sensor, is demonstrated here to balance the read/write margins (i.e., to optimize the read/write trade-off) as well as to lower the minimum operation voltage for both read and write operations. A test chip is fabricated using an industrial 45-nm bulk complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process to demonstrate the operation of the variation sensor. With the variation sensor, the word-line voltage is optimized to minimize the trade-off between read stability and writability ($V_{WL,OPT}=1.055V$) as well as to lower the minimum operating voltage for the read and write operations simultaneously ($V_{MIN,READ}=0.58V$, $V_{MIN,WRITE}=0.82V$ for supply voltage $(V_{DD})=1.1V$).

  • A finite element method for the analysis of magnetic fields with hysteresis characteristics is proposed. The method employs Preisach model to describe hysteresis of magnetic material, so that even multi-branch or minor-loop characteristics can be taken into account. The problem can be considered as the analysis of a nonlinear equation where magnetization depends not only on the present value of the magnetic field but also on the past values, and the problem can be solved by the iteration method. Measurements were carried out on soft ferrite EI core for the comparison with computer solution, and good agreements were obtained. is investigated. A theoretical approach to gait study is proposed in which the static stability margins for periodic gaits are expressed in terms of the kinematic gait formula. The effects fo the stride length on static stability are analyzed and the relations between static stability and initial body configurations are examined. It is shown that the moving velocity can be increased to some extent without affecting stability margins for a given initial body configuration. Computer simulations are performed to verify the analysis.

  • This paper proposes a novel fault-tolerant gait for Quadruped robots using energy stability margins. The previously developed fault-tolerant gaits for quadruped robots have a drawback of having marginal stability margin, which may lead to tumbling. In the process of tumbling, the potential energy of the center of gravity goes through a maximum. The larger the difference between the potential energy of the center of gravity of the initial position and that of this maximum, the less the robot tumbles. Hence this difference of potential energy, dubbed as Energy Stability Margin (ESM), can be regarded as the stability margin. In this paper, a novel fault-tolerant gait is presented which gives positive ESM to a quadruped robot suffering from a locked joint failure. Positive ESM is obtained by adjusting foot positions between leg swing sequences. The advantage of the proposed fault-tolerant gait is demonstrated in a case study where a quadruped robot with a failed leg walks on a even slope.

  • A parametric study bas been performed for the various refueling schemes of CANDU 6 reactor loaded with reference DUPIC fuel. The optimum discharge burnup was determined such that the peak bundle power is minimized for the equilibrium core. Based on the results of instantaneous core calculation using patterned random age distributions, it was decided to perform the refueling simulations only for 2-bundle and 4-bundle shift refueling schemes. The 600 FPD simulation has shown that the operational margins of the channel and bundle power to the license limits are 7.9% and 17.1%, respectively, for 2-bundle shift refueling scheme. The 4-bundle shift refueling scheme also satisfies the license limits and the operational margins of the channel and bundle power are 7.1% and 9.8%, respectively. The result of refueling simulation indicate the possibility of using reference DUPIC fuel in current CANDU 6 reactor.

  • Large butt-joint box typed class II cavites with cervical margins 1mm below the cemento-enamel junction were cut into 70 extracted human molars. The cavities(7 groups, n=10) were filled using a closed/open sandwich restoration or total bond restoration technique with materials according to the manufacturer's recommandation using the single-component bonding agent for each system. Teeth were thermocycled 500 times between $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$ with 30-second dwell times.(omitted)

  • In this work. we have designed two different kinds of Rapid Single Flux Quantum (RSFQ) OR-gates. One was based on the already developed RSFQ cells and the other was aimed to develop a more compact version. In the first circuit, we used a combination of two D Flip-Flops and a merger and in the other circuit we used a combination of RS Flip-Flops and Confluence Buffer. We tested the circuit performance by using the simulation tools, Xic and Wrspice. We obtained the operation margins of the circuit elements by a margin calculation program, and we obtained the minimum operation margins of $\pm$30%. The circuits were laid out, aimed to fabricate by using the existing KRISS Nb process. KRISS Nb process includes the $Nb/Al_2$$O_3$/Nb trilayer fabricated by DC magnetron sputtering and the reactive ion etching technique for the definition of the features. The major tools used in the layouts were Xic and L-meter.

  • The benefits for using reduced takeoff thrust are many, ranging from lower maintenance and operating costs to improved engine and dispatch reliabilities. Some pilots, however, are apprehensive about using reduced thrust. They are particularly reluctant to use the maximum permissible level of reduced thrust. Two common arguments are (1)If reduced thrust is used, then the airplane will not be able to clear the obstacles if an engine fails during takeoff, and (2)If the maximum allowable assumed temperature is used, then there will be no stopping margin left if the takeoff is aborted. There is the notion that using reduced thrust sacrifices safety. The intent of this discussion is to: (1)Show that reduced thrust performance meets all regulatory requirements (2)Show that the Assumed Temperature method includes inherent extra performance margins (3)Show how to maximize performance margins while maximizing thrust reduction.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the gingival response to the various restorations for 3 weeks, 5 weeks and 8 weeks respectively after they had been inserted in 42 tooth of 5dogs. The histopathological observation was also performed to evaluate the effect of the variuos restorations on gingival tissue. They inclued gold, copper and nickel-chrome alloy. The following findings were obtained. 1. The gingivae adjacent to the well adapted and polished restorations and their margins with a level of gingival crest were grossly and histopathologically found no specific changes. 2. The gingive adjacent to the ill fitting and unpolished restorations and their margins with subgingival extension of 1 to 1.5mm were not grossly found any changes but hitopathologically, the inflammatory changes. 3. Thee wee no obvious difference in gingival response among the various alloys in histopathological observation.
