  • When discussing a company's technology management, manufacturing companies' innovation strategy is vital because it is connected to each company's competitive advantage in various ways, such as technology acquisition, R&D, and product innovation. The research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies has been studied in various ways, such as performance and resources for innovation; however, very little research has been done to synthesize existing research outcomes. In this study, we conduct a systematic literature review of 51 articles related to manufacturing companies' innovation strategies. By doing so, we synthesized the results of extant studies based on three perspectives: the research target, the research focus, and the types of innovation strategies. In addition, I derived the unique properties of the research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies. The analysis indicated that Korea's research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies had been unequally distributed. Based on this, we suggested research agendas for future research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies.

  • Additive manufacturing (AM) is defined as the manufacture of three-dimensional tangible products by additively consolidating two-dimensional patterns layer by layer. In this review, we introduce four fundamental conceptual pillars that support AM technology: the bottom-up manufacturing factor, computer-aided manufacturing factor, distributed manufacturing factor, and eliminated manufacturing factor. All the conceptual factors work together; however, business strategy and technology optimization will vary according to the main factor that we emphasize. In parallel to the manufacturing paradigm shift toward mass personalization, manufacturing industrial ecology evolves to achieve competitiveness in economics of scope. AM technology is indeed a potent candidate manufacturing technology for satisfying volatile and customized markets. From the viewpoint of the innovation technology adoption cycle, various pros and cons of AM technology themselves prove that it is an innovative technology, in particular a disruptive innovation in manufacturing technology, as powder technology was when ingot metallurgy was dominant. Chasms related to the AM technology adoption cycle and efforts to cross the chasms are considered.

  • Manufacturing enterprises have been doing their best endeavors to obtain competitiveness using various methodologies, such as information technology. In order to achieve competitiveness, they are adopting manufacturing execution system (MES). MES is a total management system that manages from the beginning of the production by product order until the quality inspection of the finished product. And MES is an inter-mediator for supplementation of information gap between ERP and inspection machine and equipment. This paper describes on establishment of effective strategy based on BPR methodology and implementation of MES small and medium PCB manufacturing company with multiple-types of products and mixed process flows. And then we proposed evaluation model based on balanced score card (BSC) for considering non-finance elements as well as finance elements. With evaluation model, we analyzed benefits and effects of MES.

  • Based on the perspective of power fundamentals and power process, this study empirically investigated the manufacturing strategy which provided competitive advantages for the manufacturing companies in Korea. To do so, this study conducted the survey to chief production officers in Incheon, Kyoungki, and other provinces, and the data was processed by using the SPSS statistical package. According to the study results, the concordance process had positive impacts on the power process and the power process had positive impacts on the organizational performance. This result can provide many implications for the manufacturing companies in Korea.

  • Purpose: In this study, we proposed a plan to establish and implement a safety and health management system by utilizing corporate resources so that manufacturing companies can effectively respond to the Serious Accident Punishment Act. Methods: We identified critical factors and response strategies necessary for manufacturing companies to respond to the Severe Accident Punishment Act effectively and surveyed employees working at the company regarding their importance and performance. Results: In this study, we presented a method of strategically constructing the response strategies (20) shown in previous studies by matching them with the company's resources (leadership, organization, budget, education, and awareness). In particular, leadership refers to the ability of managers who can prevent serious accidents by carrying out safety and health security obligations to avoid safety and health hazards or risks to employees in the business or workplace that is controlled, operated, and managed. Conclusion: Based on the manager's firm leadership, the system's purpose and direction must be accurately set and sufficiently communicated to members. In addition, for companies to identify and improve risk factors on their own, a Process approach must be established to improve execution by referring to legal standards together with field managers and supervisors.

  • This research was conducted in order to solve the problem of selecting an operational strategy for projects in project-based organizations by designing a fuzzy expert system. In the current research, we first determined the contributing parameters in operational strategy of project-based organizations based on existing research literature and experts' opinion. Next, we divided them into two groups of model inputs and outputs and the rules governing them were determined by referring to research literature and educational instances. In order to integrate rules, the revised Ternary Grid (revised TG) and expert opinions were applied according to a hybrid algorithm. The Ultimate rules were provided in Fuzzy Inference System format (FIS). In this FIS, proper manufacturing decisions are recommended to the user based on selected competitive priority and also project properties. This paper is the first study in which rules and relations governing the parameters contributing operational strategy in project-based organizations are acquired in a guided integrated process and in the shape of an expert system. Using the decision support system presented in this research, managers of project-based organizations can easily become informed of proper manufacturing decisions in proportion with selected competitive priority and project properties; and also be ensured that theoretical background and past experiences are considered.

  • Manufacturing companies must have close relationships with cooperative companies and customers under dynamic market surroundings. Not only product life cycle, but also the allowed period between development of product and sale becomes shorter. In spite of these situations, most manufacturing companies have insufficient capabilities of the information technology and data exchange formats between companies are so different. Thus, there exists a limit on the efficient management of companies. These problems in manufacturing companies could be solved by CALS. Through CALS the company responses quickly to customer demand, transfers this information to manufacturing systems automatically, and distributes products at appropriate time In short, CALS is a strategy to distribute products satisfying with quality, cost and delivery. And up to now, most manufacturing companies have proceeded CIM systems. In this paper, an approach for the efficient building CALS system through extension of CIM in the manufacturing companies is proposed.
