With the development of information and communication technology, the unmanned aerial vehicle industry began to attract attention as a new growth industry as it entered the fourth industrial revolution. As the size of the unmanned aerial vehicles and the scope of airspace vary from small drones to large unmanned aerial vehicles, the developed countries such as USA and Europe are developing plans for the integrated operation of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles. ICAO is also working on amendments to the relevant ICAO annexes to establish international standards and recommendations for unmanned aerial vehicles. Korea also needs to prepare for the integrated operation of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles that will come in the future, and for this purpose, it is necessary to review and revise the national regulation systems for the safe operation of unmanned aerial vehicles. This study analyzes the amendments of related annexes discussed on the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) pannel, and suggests the direction of revision of the Aviation Safety Act for the safe operation of unmanned aerial vehicles in comparison with the existing Aviation Safety Act.
The purpose of this study was to address a Remote Airborne Control Simulator that could simulate manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T mission) for fixed wing UAV. With rapid technological development of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the mission capability of UAV has tremendously grown. The role of UAV extends from simple reconnaissance to highly automated wingman. Accordingly, the requirement of UAV ground simulator should be modified as well to meet function requirements for simulating a MUM-T mission. A developed remote airborne control simulator was developed for conducting fixed wing UAV MUM-T operation simulations on the ground. The newest MUM-T examples, usage, and application of the developed remote airborne control simulator for MUM-T simulation are also presented in this study.

IoT (Internet of Things) emerges from various technologies such as communications, micro processors and embedded system and so on. The IoT has also been used to UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) system. In manned aircraft, a pilot and co-pilot should control FCS (Flight Control System) with FBW(Fly By Wire) system for flight operation. In contrast, the flight operation in UAV system is remotely and fully managed by GCS (Ground Control System) almost in real time. To make it possible the communication channel should be necessary between the UAV and the GCS. There are many protocols between two systems. Amongst them, MAVLink (Macro Air Vehicle Link) protocol is representatively used due to its open architecture. MAVLink does not define any securities itself, which results in high vulnerability from external attacks. This paper proposes the method to enhance data security in GCS network by applying cryptographic methods to the MAVLink messages in order to support safe UAV operations.

This paper presents a methodology for evaluating suitability of a manned-unmanned aerial vehicle team for a complicated mission. The study identified vehicle performance, equipment performance and level of autonomy as the key factors that affect the mission effectiveness. A manned and an unmanned aircraft were compared, and their performance was quantized in these respects. SEAD was chosen as a representative manned-unmanned team mission. The SEAD mission was broken down to a sequence of tasks. Mission experts evaluated the importance of each mark item for the mission legs. Combining the results showed proper type of aircraft for each leg depending on the complexity, safety, and importance of the task. Finally, the whole mission plan was laid out as a time-based sequence which alleviate pilot workload significantly.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly needed as they can replace manned aircrafts in dangerous military missions. However, because of their low autonomy, current UAVs can execute missions only under continuous operator control. To overcome this limitation, higher autonomy levels of UAVs based on autonomous situational awareness is required. In this paper, we propose an autonomous situational awareness software consisting of situation awareness management, threat recognition, threat identification, and threat space analysis to detect dynamic situational change by external threats. We implemented the proposed software in real mission computer hardware and evaluated the performance of situational awareness toward dynamic radar threats in flight simulations.
The widespread introduction of unmanned aircrafts has led to the understanding of the need to organize a common information space for manned and unmanned aircrafts, which is reflected in the Russian Unmanned aircraft system Traffic Management (RUTM) project. The present article deals with the issues of spatial information database (DB) organization, which is the core of RUTM and provides storage of various data types (spatial, aeronautical, topographical, meteorological, vector, etc.) required for flight safety management. Based on the analysis of functional capabilities and types of work which it needs to ensure, the architecture of spatial information DB, including the base of source information, base of display settings, base of vector objects, base of tile packages and also a number of special software packages was proposed. The issues of organization of these DB, types and formats of data and ways of their display are considered in detail. Based on the analysis it was concluded that the optimal construction of the spatial DB for RUTM system requires a combination of different model variants and ways of organizing data structures.

Currently, the operation of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is regulated to be able to fly only within the visible range, but in recent years, the needs for operation in the invisible area, in the urban area and at night have increased. In order to operate UAVs in the invisible area, at night, and in the urban area, a flight path for UAVs must be prepared like those operated by manned aircraft, and for this, it is necessary to establish an unmanned aircraft system traffic management (UTM). In order to establish the UTM, information on the minimum separation distance to prevent collisions with UAVs and buildings is required, and accordingly, information on the navigation performance of UAVs is required. In order to analyze the navigation performance of an UAV, total system error (TSE), which is the difference between the planned flight path and the actual location of the UAV, is required. If the collected data are insufficient and classification according to integrity, independence, and direction is not performed, accurate navigation performance is not derived. In this paper, propose a navigation performance analysis method of UAV that is derived TSE using flight data and modeled with normal distribution, analyze performance.

We present recent human-vehicle interaction (HVI) research conducted in the area of defense and military application. Research topics discussed in this paper include: training simulation for overland navigation tasks; expertise effects in overland navigation performance and scan patterns; pilot's perception and confidence on an overland navigation task; effects of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) supervisory control on F-18 formation flight performance in a simulator environment; autonomy balancing in a manned-unmanned teaming (MUT) swarm attack, enabling visual detection of IED (Improvised Explosive Device) indicators through Perceptual Learning Assessment and Training; usability test on DaViTo (Data Visualization Tool); and modeling peripheral vision for moving target search and detection. Diverse and leading HVI study in the defense domain suggests future research direction in other HVI emerging areas such as automotive industry and aviation domain.
Unlike manned aerial vehicles, because an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has a limitation which allows only remote test during flights, it is very important to maintain the high reliability of the vehicle through pre- and post-flight tests. To this end, this paper designed an air vehicle test equipment (AVTE) for UAV which meets the derived hardware and software requirements. Based on this design, the AVTE was implemented in accordance with the actual test scenario. The implemented AVTE has the advantage of reducing the time and cost required for the test of UAV by allowing the operator to perform automatic or manual tests for necessary parts in various situations such as before and after starting engine and pre- and post-flight tests. Furthermore, this study is expected to help with the design and implementation of AVTE for other UAVs.

Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) are increasingly used in civilian areas as well as in military areas due to the technological advancement of UAVs. In response to the increasing demand in UAVs, many studies are under way to integrate the airspace between manned aircraft and UAV. The development of flight test can secure the performance and flight characteristics of the designed aircraft. And the capability of research and development can be expanded through the accumulation of technical data. It is also essential to verify the correct performance and characteristics of development aircraft themselves. In this paper, we propose development flight test procedures and items for civilian UAVs.
