  • Odontogenic myxoma, a rare tumour that occurs in the jaws, locally invasive, destructive tumors that do not metastasize to lymph nodes. Large odontogenic myxoma on mandible is treated by mandibulectomy, defected mandible is reconstructed by bone graft. Reconstructed mandible is difficult to reconstruct dentition using implant because of deficiency of bone amount. So it is necessary to additional bone graft. But a poor aspect of soft tissue lead to unsatisfactory result. Because of distraction osteogenesis is possible to reconstruction of an amount of bone and soft tissue, that is advantage to reconstruction of alveolar bone on reconstructed mandible. We report with review of literatures the 25 years old male patient who had odontogenic myxoma in left mandible, was undergone mandibulectomy and successfully implant installation and prosthetic restoration after distraction osteogenesis(Track $Plus^{(R)}$, KLS Martin, Germany) on the reconstructed mandible with a free iliac bone graft, and we have conservative and successful result.

  • Ameloblastoma is the most common benign odontogenic tumor, with approximately 80% arising in the mandible and the remainder in the maxilla. However, the infratemporal fossa is a rare site in which ameloblastomas occur. Although malignant transformations or metastasizing processes are extremely rare, tumor recurrence is common, if the tumor is not completely resected. Because reoperation could deteriorate quality of life in the patients and increase surgical morbidity, radical surgery is often recommended to minimize recurrence rates. In this report, we presented our experience of resection of ameloblastoma in the left infratemporal fossa with sufficient safe margin through a lower cheek flap approach and marginal mandibulectomy.

  • Two dogs with spontaneously developing osteosarcoma of the extremities and one dogs with spontaneously developing osteosarcoma of the mandible were referred to the University of Tokyo Veterinary Medical Center. Three dogs were diagnosed as osteosarcoma by clinical sign, radiography, and histological examination. After diagnosis, two dogs was treated by amputation and one dog by partial mandibulectomy. Three weeks after two surgery, all dogs administered cisdiamminedichloroplatinum (cisplatin) chemotherapy 40-50 mg/$m^2$, IV of body surface. After cisplatin therapy, dog 1 and dog 3 survived without overt metastasis. Dog 2 died of metastatic disease. The survival times of dog 1, dog 2, and dog 3 were estimated to be 69.5, 36.3 and 66.4 weeks, respectively. It was thought that the surgery in combination with cisplatin chemotherapy was a useful method to treat a canine osteosarocoma.

  • One of the most serious complications after head and neck radiation is osteoradionecrosis (ORN) of the jaw. The etiology of ORN is extraction, minor dental procedure or dental implant surgery. When ORN of the jaw progressed to stage III, free fibular flap is the most useful methods for reconstruction. In this case report, a 67-year-old ORN patient who underwent fibular free flap reconstruction using simulation surgery with 3-dimensional rapid prototype (3D RP) model was reviewed. After partial mandibulectomy, a osteocutaneous fibula flap was used for reconstruction. Oro-cutaneous fistula was resolved after operation. Patients reported improved food intake after operation without pus discharge. Functional and esthetic results showed successful reconstruction.

  • Leiomyosarcoma of the oral cavity is a very rare tumor that is associated with aggressive clinical behavior and low survival. In this paper, we report a case of leiomyosarcoma presenting with a gingival exophytic mass that rapidly grew, causing facial asymmetry within 16 days, in a 9-year-old boy. After an excisional biopsy, microscopy revealed a spindle cell neoplasm that, on immunohistochemistry analysis, demonstrated reactivity for SMA. This established the diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma; subsequently, a marginal mandibulectomy and supraomohyoid neck dissection were performed.

  • Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a distinctive neoplasm of the salivary gland and is the most common malignant tumor of submandibular gland. Although adenoid cystic carcinoma grows slowly, it shows aggressive tendencies with the ability to invade peripheral nerves. This ability enables an adenoid cystic carcinoma to extend along the nerves and spread long distances, resulting in high incidence of distant metastasis and recurrence. Therefore, radical resection is the treatment of choice for this carcinoma. We performed partial mandibulectomy, neck dissection and immediate reconstruction using a radial forearm free flap on a 54 year-old man with adenoid cystic carcinoma on the right submandibular gland. And as an adjunctive therapy, chemotherapy with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil was used. We report our case along with a literature review.

  • Advanced cancer of the oral cavity has been treated with wide excision in conjunction with mandibulectomy and neck dissection. This has resulted in significant mandibulofacial defects with functional and cosmetic significance. Therefore, proper mandibular reconstruction is very important for physiologic and esthetic restoration. The risk factors of free flap reconstruction have been reported including obesity, age, smoking, previous irradiation, and systemic vascular disease. We recently experienced a case of donor site necrosis after fibular osteocutaneous free flap in oral cavity cancer.

  • Treatment of metastatic carcinoma of the oral cavity can be a challenge due to its rarity. The current case report details metastatic carcinoma of the mandible originating from follicular thyroid carcinoma, which is the second most prevalent tumor of the thyroid. As the mandibular lesion developed, the primary thyroid lesion of thyroid. Here, we report a case of metastatic carcinoma of the mandible in a 67-year-old female that was treated with partial mandibulectomy and fibular free flap.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and therapeutic outcomes of canine oral tumors in Korea. Medical records of dogs presented with oral tumor at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University from 2002 to 2007 were reviewed. The predominant breeds were Yorkshire terrier (n=14), miniature poodle (n=7), Shih Tzu (n=6), and maltese (n=4), in order. The mean age at onset was $10.0{\pm}3.8$ years. The most common tumor types included fibrous epulis (n=13), malignant melanoma (n=12), acanthomatous epulis (n=4), and squamous cell carcinoma (n=3). Surgical removal was performed in 29 cases; simple excision in 18 cases, partial mandibulectomy in 8 cases, and partial maxillectomy in 3 dogs. Outcomes of surgery were various according to the tumor types. Prognosis of dogs with fibrous epulis and acanthomatous epulis was good and that of dogs with malignant melanoma was poor.
