Job Skill Importance for Systems Analysts From the Viewpoint of IS and Functional Managers (IS 및 기능관리자의 시각에서 본 시스템분석에 필요한 직무능력)

  • Increasingly, systems analysts are expected to have behavioral and administrative skills as well as technical skills. This paper presents the results of a nationwide survey of 739 information systems (IS) managers (220 responses) and other functional managers (178) regarding the importance of various skills needed by systems analysts. The findings indicate that IS managers and three functional area managers differ in their perceptions of the importance of skills that system analysts should possess. These differences suggest that IS managers consider the ability to work with others more important than do functional managers. In contrast, three functional manager groups seem to view technical areas more importantly and thus may have greater expectations for technical performance. Also the results indicate that a positive relationship exists between possession of the identified skills and systems effectiveness.

  • Microparticle and micropolymer retention and drainage aid systems are powerful tools for paper and board making on a variety of machines. Drawbacks attributed to the current systems sometimes include; apparent high cost, production and quality problems and in some cases a negative effect on formation. The next generation multi-component organic/inorganic systems have demonstrated their ability to decouple the effects of retention and drainage and to improve the formation and print quality for the same retention and in some cases higher retention levels. It is now possible to optimize independently retention, drainage and formation effects with the same high return on investment of current microparticle systems.

  • Understanding the current status of a construction project is necessary to achieve successful on-site management. Real-time information delivery is a major concern for construction industry practitioners in order to expedite decisions and discussions. We propose the use of a first personal view (FPV) system of a quadcopter drone as a tool for monitoring on-site status and communicating between construction participants. The most important function of the drone FPV system is its ability to visually monitor construction site situations in real time. An on-site management system process is developed, verified, and applied to several construction work tasks after determining factors that affect efficient construction management. The proposed system is expected to assist the construction manager in achieving high efficiency.

  • This paper provides an overview of Pakistan Railways scheduling and rescheduling. First of all, Pakistan Railways is introduced with its brief history and importance in this country. Assets of this network with passengers and freight using this are given. Current hope less situation is leading to privatization of this system as well as promoting short distance traveler to use road and Government efforts to retain is also presented. Train scheduling in Pakistan is being done manually, based on manual time distance graph preparation and resolution of conflicts based on manager's experience and ability. In Real-time management of this traffic Lahore head office is connected with six control stations in the Pakistan, decision for resolution of any disturbance is coordinated among them. It is recommended that computer aided tools must be developed for this system to help traffic managers and it is needed to invest on the segments to increase their speed limits which might attract passengers to use this mode of transportation with high priority.

  • Based on real jobs, this study was carried out the Railway maintenance works in Taiwan. It hopes to use Geographic Information System(GIS) and Building Information Modeling(BIM) for changing the maintenance model from "post-damage repair" to "preventive maintenance". Accordingly, this research will build a Railway Repairing Database that installs all repair data. This database will also connect to GIS so that can be the source of analysis and statistic for repair paln. The main results of research are as follows: I. All data stored on cloud space that raises the ability to manage and plan on repair. II. Simplify the file work and increase the quantity of case data to the manager who can get more reliable source. III. The data offer objective judgment to avoid subjective argument. IV. Add the GIS information to improve the maintenance because of good analisis.

  • Recently, as stress has become a major threat to people's health, there is a growing interest in wearable stress management services for stress relief. In this paper, we developed a wearable device(Care-on) capable of extracting changeable human voice information at each site and a Healthcare App(S-Manager) that enables stress management in real time using the wearable device. It collects and analyzes variable real-time voice information for each part of the person's body. And It also provides the ability to monitor stress conditions in a mobile environment and provide feedback on the analysis results in step by step in the mobile environment. We tested the developed wearable devices and app in a mobile environment and analyzed the results to confirm their usefulness.

A Study on Determining Factors of Hull Insurance Rate (선박보검과준의 결정요인에 관한 연구)

  • Korean property and liability insurance companies have underwrited hull insurance without proper undrewriting ability. But after April 1996. in case of Korean insurance market being opened the companies have to make hull insurance rate by themselves. Accordingly, in this study, the writer embodies important factors in making hull insurance rate by an empirical survey. In empirical survey, the writer used a questionnaire, 74 proper data was obtained from 96 officers working in making hull insurance rate in 12 Korean property and liablity insurance companies and 24 the foreign companies at home. Reliability was tested by Cronbach's Alpha and a conceptual validity by Factor Analysis. Hypothesis estabilished in this study was tested by Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis. Results of testing hypothesis are as follows: Firstly, the traits of insurer and the assured influence significantly(P<0.05) on making hull insurance rate. Secondly, expected loss ratio, ship manager, ship's age, insured amount, level of the cost of repairing and salvage, shipowner, period of insurance, level of overseas rating, profit and expense, trading limits, ship's classification, conditions of insurance, and ship's size influence significantly(P<0.05) on making hull insurance rate.

  • This study analyzed the effect of department leadership 's leadership on department performance. The questionnaires were distributed from September 22, 2013 to October 13, 2013 to Daejeon and Chungnam area workers. The results of this study are as follows: First, the leadership of department head has a significant effect on the performance of department. (P <.001, ${\beta}=.613$), and task efficiency was statistically significant (p <.01, p = .270) The results of this study are as follows. Second, the communication ability of department heads showed a significant correlation between the department work efficiency and p <.01 significance level. In other words, it was confirmed that there was a positive correlation between department manager's communication ability and initiative' s achievement. The purpose of this study is to identify the importance of individual, organizational, and environmental factors by analyzing the influence of department leadership's leadership on departmental performance, and to investigate the differences according to individual characteristics of workers.

Educational Need of Nursing Managerial Competency in the Hospitals (병원에서의 간호관리역량 교육요구도)

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate educational need of nursing managerial competency in the hospitals. Method: The data were collected from 296 nurses(nurse manager and nurse) who had worked in 9 hospitals using the structured questionnaires. Data was analysed by the SPSS for Windows 12.0 program. Results: Educational needs of the nurse managerial competency development were very high. Most of items in the areas of 'human resource management', 'leadership', 'ethic/ law responsibility' and 'quality improvement' were needed for nurse managerial competency development. Current level of the nurse managerial competency level in practice was lower than education need. However nurses had moderate level ability in the areas of 'ethic/ law responsibility', 'human resource management' and 'nursing information management'. There were significant differences in current level and need of the nurse managerial competency(p=.000). Education needs of the nurse managerial competency were influenced by age, clinical career, position, education level, experience of nurse manager education(p<.05). 5) Education program operations were preferred to 'the theme course', 'lecture', 'external education institution'. Conclusion: Education program of the nursing managerial competency development is urgently needed for nurses who have worked in a hospital.

Effective Leadership in Public Organizations: The Impact of Organizational Structure in Asian Countries

  • Among public organizations, does variation in organizational structure explain variation in public managers' leadership styles (e.g., transformational and transactional leadership)? The study of leadership in public organizations is increasingly an area of scholarly interest partly sparked by movements to reform public organizations, particularly in the context of emergency management. There is, for example, a need for effective leadership that can help organizations respond to disasters (Kapucu et al. 2010; Van Wart and Kapucu 2011; Stern 2013). There are numerous documented cases where the lack of leadership skills has been linked to major social and economic losses as a result of poor disaster response (e.g., Hurricane Katrina in the U.S.). Yet, leadership is a complex concept and numerous theoretical frameworks have been developed to help explain it (Van Wart 2005). Practically speaking, the existence of different theories of leadership suggests that public managers can decide to exercise various styles of leadership. The style of leadership that a public manager exhibits matters because some styles are perceived to be more effective than others (Trottier et al. 2008). While the effects of leadership have been extensively studied, antecedents or predictors of leadership style have received little scholarly attention (Wright and Pandey 2009; Nielsen and Cleal 2011). The purpose of this research note then is to explore the potential causal relationship between the structure of an organization and the ability of a public manager to exercise transformational leadership in the context of emergency management in two Asian countries: South Korea and Japan. This research note consists of three main sections. The following section explores the relationship between leadership and organizational structure. The second section examines how certain concepts of leadership and organizational structure were applied in two case studies of disaster response. The final section presents some directions for future research.
