  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness(knowledge of core fundamental nursing skills, clinical competency, self-efficacy and learning motivation) of education program for core fundamental nursing skills focusing on endotracheal suctioning using recording video with smartphone and formative feedback for nursing school students. Subjects consisted of 54 sophomore nursing students, an experimental group(n=27) and a control group(n=27). The education for core fundamental nursing skills using recording video to smartphone and individual formative feedback was provided to students in an experimental group. The traditional method with self-directed practice for 4 hours was offered to a control group. The education program for core fundamental nursing skills using recording video with smartphone and formative feedback was effective in promoting knowledge of core fundamental nursing skills, clinical competency, self-efficacy and learning motivation. Based on our results, this program can be recommended as an effective educational program for the nursing students to improve their core fundamental nursing skills.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine elderly drivers' driving performances at the intersections, suggested by Bao and Boyle(2009), according to visual information processing skills. Visual information processing skills of elderly drivers were measured by using the visual working memory task, developed by Min et al.(2006). Seven elderly drivers were divided into two groups(good/poor) depending on the level of visual information processing skills and eleven younger drivers were a contrast group. This study examined the differences of driving performance(i.e., intersection passing times, approach velocities, speed variation and handling variations) among three groups. The results showed that elderly drivers having the poor visual information processing skills passed more slowly through the intersection than the contrast group, and passing times between elderly drivers having the good visual information processing skills and the contrast group was not significantly different. It is suggested that elderly drivers having the poor visual information processing skills use more times when they pass through the intersection, because they don't process a lot of hazardous and latent hazardous factors quickly.

The subjects were nursing students residing in J provincial and 112 questionnaires were analyzed. There were significant differences in confidence in performing core nursing skills with age(F=5.52, p<.001), Images about the nurse profession(F=10.2, p<.001). There was positive correlation between confidence in performing core nursing skills and major satisfaction (r=.563, <.001). The factors affecting confidence in performing core nursing skills of the major satisfaction(𝛽=.338 P<.001), academic engagement(𝛽=.195, p<.027), explaining 35% of the variance. Therefore, based on the results of this study, it will be an important basic data for the development of education to improve the core nursing skills of nursing university students.

The study consisted of direct examination and interview survey. Direct examination comprised pocket depth, bleeding on the brush, O'Leary plaque record, salivary flow rate, and oral bacterial culture for three months. Results: The number of diabetic patients was eight. Four patients xerostomia and one of them had 0.7 mL per minute of salivary flow rate, decreased O'Leary plaque record, and bleeding in the brush. Those who received education were able to take control of plaque management. They recognized the need for oral care and had good self-management of oral care skills. Conclusions: The professional dental care and oral health education improved periodontal health and self-management skills of plaque in periodontal disease patients with systemic diseases.

  • Small and Medium sized hospitals are exposed to severe managerial environments recently. Around 8.0% of the hospitals are bankrupted every year. The adverse managerial environment does not only come from external factors such as patients' preference for larger hospitals, regulations on the medical charges; more serious problems come from the way the medium and small sized hospitals deal with those exogenous changes including lack of management skills, lack of change management skills, lack of managerial decision support systems, etc. This paper aims to support managers to make decisions regarding the exogenous changes. This paper can be interpreted as an attempt of a merge of the two techniques; BSC and system dynamics. Starting with a BSC system, the development of a system dynamics model can take advantages of the BSC information.
