  • Health systems science is a new medical educational field added to the traditional medical education curricula of basic and clinical sciences. Health systems science emphasizes a more comprehensive approach utilizing systems thinking to care for patients, including interactions between multiple healthcare systems. In this review, I explore how health systems science education can be applied when medical instructors teach students in clinical clerkships through representative case studies. This study first looks at examples of health systems science education in clinical clerkship in the United States and suggests how to develop the curriculum of health systems science for clinical learning environments in Korea by combining Kotter's 8-step change management model and Kern's 6-step curriculum development model. Finally, based on practical examples from actual clinical practice education situations, suggestions are made regarding how to develop the entire educational program of a medical school from the stage of applying health systems science at the individual level to clinical practice education.

  • Although tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is a general medical issue with growing prevalence and socioeconomic burden, most clinicians have not paid much attention to TR in the past. Several problems of TR have been pointed out in clinical practice, which include: ambiguous clinical manifestations and the difficulty in initial detection, limitations in generally used diagnostic tools, the absence of objective criterion for therapeutic intervention, high operative morbidity and mortality, and lack of long-term clinical data after the intervention for TR. Therefore, patients with TR usually visit clinicians at a much-advanced state, and this delay gives a major dilemma in clinical decision-making in a routine clinical practice. To improve the clinical outcome of TR, we need more knowledge about TR for solving the current problems and making strategies for better clinical practice. With this background, we have discussed in the present article about the pathophysiology of TR and the problems frequently experienced by clinical physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of TR. Furthermore, we have discussed the future strategy to improve the treatment of TR.

  • Purpose: This study was done to use a guideline adaptation process to develop a Korean evidence-based diabetic foot care clinical practice guideline for diabetic foot prevention and management. Methods: The guideline adaptation process was conducted according to the guideline adaptation manual developed by the National Evidence-Based Healthcare Collaborating Agency. The process consists of three main phases, with 9 modules including a total of 23 steps. Results: The newly developed diabetic foot care clinical practice guideline consisted of an introduction, description of diabetic foot, summary of recommendations, recommendations, references, appendices, and glossary. There were 165 recommendations in 4 sections (risk assessment for diabetic foot ulcers, prevention of diabetic foot ulcers, wound assessment of diabetic foot ulcers, and management of the diabetic foot). In grading by recommendations, for A there were 30 (18.2%), B, 8 (4.8%), C, 30 (18.2%) D, 97 (58.8%). Conclusion: This guideline can be used as educational material for healthcare workers and diabetic patients. It can also be utilized as a practice guideline for healthcare workers in the hospital and community setting.

  • This study aims to understand the effects of nursing college students' anxiety about clinical practice and stress from it during the practice on their nursing professionalism during COVID-19 and be used as baseline data to promote this professionalism. The target is 187 juniors and seniors in nursing college located in Chungnam, Chungbuk, and Gyeongbuk with experience in the clinical practice, and the survey was conducted from September to November 2021. The data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using SPSS 22.0. Nursing professionalism was significantly correlated with clinical practice stress(r=-.151, p=.039). In terms of the factors that influenced the nursing professionalism, the coefficient of determination of satisfaction in major was 5.2%(β=-.24, p=.001), and that of stress from the clinical practice was 3.0%(β=-.17, p=.015), which explains a total of 8.2%. Major satisfaction was the most influential factor predicting greater nursing professionalism. The results of this study demonstrate the necessity to increase nursing students' satisfaction in major and reduce their stress from clinical practice in order to improve the nursing professionalism during COVID-19.

  • Pain management is an important part of dental practice, and dentists frequently prescribe analgesics to improve clinical outcomes. Dentists should be aware of the pharmacological characteristics of the analgesics commonly used in dentistry and should choose appropriate analgesics to treat and prevent pain associated with inflammation or surgery. In this article, we review the potential benefits and risks of the analgesics frequently used in dental practice and provide a stepwise approach for pain management.

  • Imaging plays a key role in the management of brain tumors, including the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment response assessment. Radiomics and deep learning approaches, along with various advanced physiologic imaging parameters, hold great potential for aiding radiological assessments in neuro-oncology. The ongoing development of new technology needs to be validated in clinical trials and incorporated into the clinical workflow. However, none of the potential neuro-oncological applications for radiomics and deep learning has yet been realized in clinical practice. In this review, we summarize the current applications of radiomics and deep learning in neuro-oncology and discuss challenges in relation to evidence-based medicine and reporting guidelines, as well as potential applications in clinical workflows and routine clinical practice.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the convergence factors affecting professional identity perceived by the emotional labor of clinical practice and self-esteem in some dental hygiene students. The questionnaire was conducted in 205 dental hygiene students from 3 university in Jeollanam-do area. The data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0. Professional identity correlated positively with self-esteem(r=0.366, p<0.01), negatively with emotional labor of clinical practice(r=-0.213, p<0.01). The convergence factors influencing professional identity were satisfaction level with majors(${\beta}=0.434$), self-esteem(${\beta}=0.236$) and emotional labor of clinical practice(${\beta}=-0.199$). The regression model explained 34.6% of professional identity. Therefore, to enhance professional identity in dental hygiene students, it is required to program development to improve satisfaction level of with majors, self-esteem and management of emotional labor of clinical practice.

  • This study was conducted for nursing students and was attempted to find out the relationship between rudeness, major satisfaction, self-efficacy and burnout which they experience during clinical practice and provide the basic data for the qualitative clinical practice. This study, as a correlation survey study, was conducted for 210 senior nursing students who experienced clinical practice and who were in a nursing department, and data was collected from Oct 1, 2016 to Oct 15, 2016. The data was analyzed with Correlation Coefficient and regression using SPSS Program 20.0. It was revealed that the burnout of nursing students was affected by rudeness, major satisfaction, and self-efficacy. In conclusion, it is necessary to establish the reporting system which is connected to hospitals, students, and clinical practice leaders and hospital administrators and improve the system.

  • This study was attemted to grasp the factors affecting the caring efficacy of senior nursing students. Data were collected from 173 nursing students at J university in G-do. Analysis was done using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Multiple regression with IBM SPSS WIN/25.0. Caring efficacy was positively correlated with clinical learning environment (r=.42, p<.001), field practice adaptation (r=.53, p<.001), nursing professionalism (r=.42, p<.001), and negatively correlated to clinical practice powerlessness (r=-.46, p<.001). The most influential factor on the subjects' caring efficacy was field practice adaptation (β=.330, p<.001), followed by nursing professionalism (β=.188, p=.005), clinical learning environment (β=.176, p=.015), introvert (β=-.146, p=.018), and extrovert (β=.134, p=.035). The explanatory power was 41.8%. Therefore, systematic nursing programs that can enhance caring efficacy are needed. Also, the following data can be utilized as basic data to help develop caring efficacy programs.
